A morning person, he usually woke with the sun, but today, things were different. Today, perhaps not in this world but in their own somewhere out in the ether, was Christmas Eve, and it was the first time in longer than he cared to recollect that he had a reason to properly celebrate it.

It wasn't by intention, but maybe anticipation of that fact that had him sneaking out of bed earlier than usual, carefully and quietly. After tucking Ciel back in, he slipped from the room and into the kitchen. He took the apron from a cabinet knob and settled it over his head, then started the kettle on the stove and took out a few ingredients from here and there to set out on the counter.

He had cookies to make. Many of them.

Such a silly boy, even at his age. Undertaker won't begrudge him that, but he'll spend his time in the kitchen, meticulously watching after his cookie baking and letting the boy's father decorate the ones that come out while he takes to preparing the next tray to go into the oven. It isn't long before they have a blanket wandering into their midst, however, and he grins when he looks up to see it.

"Ah, there he is! Good morning, milord."

He was still sleepy enough that it took a moment to understand everything, and he rubbed at his eyes again before mumbling a 'good morning' in return. He thought about tea but with Undertaker at the oven, he settled into a seat for a moment instead.

That and there's one other thing that took priority over his need for tea and help waking up:

"Can I have a cookie?"

All in all, he isn't surprised to hear the request. There are, after all, only a few things that draw the Earl out of his rest in this world besides obligations to his company. He chuckles softly, taking one of the decorated cookies and setting it on a small plate for Ciel.

"I think today we can let you slip by with a treat before breakfast."

Well, obligations to his company and his family here. He did like spending time with them, especially now that he could move about more easily and didn't need anything for the paid too often. So he wasn't sleeping on or around them nearly as often.

There was a little smile as one of the cookies was put on a plate and given to him. He actually hadn't expected it to be so easy but he was glad for it. They smelled and looked good. And with Undertaker baking them, he knew they'd be good.

"Is it a special occasion? Or just for the holiday?" Ciel asked and then bites into the cookie, smiling around it.

He shakes his head, setting the plate aside. And if Ciel wants to snag a second cookie from it, he won't say anything. They're there to be eaten, after all, and he plans on helping to make them disappear within the next day or two.

"Just for the holiday, milord. These are a special sort, alright. Gingerbread!" As he explains, he heads back to the oven to check on a new batch, nearly baked to cookie goodness. "It's hard to find this seasonal any other time of the year, so I want my fill of it and then some before they're gone again until next year."

He just might but for the moment, he just focuses on finishing his first bite and then nibbling on the rest of it as he finished waking up.

"Who says we can't have gingerbread the rest of the year? There must be some way to get the ingredients any other time." He liked the cookies, they were good. And Undertaker continued to prove his skill with any kind of baked goods.
