I'll be ready!

*She may have squealed happily before hanging up.*

"Things seem to work out here, some of the time." Not all the time, not with everyone. But enough of the time, in ways that seemed to make people better. Lola still didn't have anyone from home. But she'd made a lot of friends here, so it wasn't like she could complain.

"That should make things easier all around, does he know about her... you know, powers?" Winter being different was only a problem for people that tried to touch her. Lola, for everyone's benefit, could calm her down with a well placed intention... at twenty paces. Which was just a nice trick. Especially since Lola still hates kids.

"After nine months, I think I was due some good fortune." To have the double blessing of both Gyda and his father come in within a few days of each other had made him very happy indeed. He'd been noticeably less angry and psychotic the past couple of days. Ragnar was perhaps one of three people in the Quarantine who could put a leash on Ivar when he went out of control.

"Yes, I told him ahead of time. Honestly, he seemed more taken aback by how she looked then the fact she can steal the life force from people. But Winter seems to like him." That was a good things. Winter didn't tend to use her powers on people that she liked.

"Smell is a good indicator, smell and taste are connected and all. I dunno, I'm always a little nervous doing something I've never done before. Or using new ingredients." This wasn't all that new ingredients wise, the stuff about baking bread was new to her, but she knew all the parts. And it almost made sense.

And the conversation derailed because of Lola's hair, Gyda hadn't run into Lola not looking quite like herself. Lola generally stuck to the same colors for day to day work, only changing when it felt important. Parties, etc. "Oh, my hair changes colors, don't worry about it. It does it all the time. It takes a little effort to keep it whatever color it is."

[ Sarah is hunting for gifts too, though she doesn't have many people here to give them to. Mostly she's thinking of Caleb, maybe Marinette, and, funnily enough, Lola.

She spots the other girl in a men's clothing store, where she herself was looking over shirts and ties and trying not to be disgusted with herself for going for such a basic gift.

Lola is a welcome distraction. ] Hey!

"I'm sure we could find someway to eat it if it's that bad," Or at the very least give it to someone not so picky.

"Why does it change color and how?" Was there some sort of magic? She heard of shapeshifters of course, but that didn't include changing hair color-hair color was the least of a shapeshift's concerns. "Is there a pattern or reason for the color?"

*Lola's looking at coats and jackets, or at her phone where she has some notes written down about what her friends wear. Men's fashion isn't her best subject but she can at least judge what she's found against what they wear. Which will help her pick things out. Lola's hair is a much more neutral brown as she's looking at things, well, meant for people with darker hair than her pastel palette.*

Oh, hi! Holiday shopping too?

*Lola's hair returns to her more standard blue as her attention turns to Sarah. But other than that she just seems glad to see a familiar face.*

"...has it really been nine months?" You'd think Lola would keep perfect track. But she mostly just lets things happen. So she's forgotten except when someone asks her. Well, okay, there was the fact she got new memories, and those kinda screwed her sense of time too. It didn't feel like that long.

"What's up with how she looks?" Okay, to be fair Lola's bad with what babies should look like. Also the fact that Lola's hair is blue, and she thinks that's normal. Because it is.

"The worst that happens is I'll learn something, not repeat that mistake." Lola doesn't like making mistakes, but she found out all sorts of stuff from her last big mistake. This won't be any different, well... scale is different. But other than that.

"Um, its kinda super complicated, I got it done here. It isn't magic, science... really advanced science," This was equal parts Gyda is young and Gyda is a viking keeping Lola from trying to explain it. "Um, it changes based on my mood sometimes, and to colors I like. It tends to stick to those unless I make it change to something specific."

[Keith couldn't help smiling as well as they hung up. He pre-purchased the tickets for the movie, something fun, but not too crazy that they both could enjoy, and then poked around for dinner ideas near the theatre. By the time he picked a place to eat, and then got himself changed and headed to her place, he arrived about five minutes early.

He'd left Red home... but still just couldn't really part with that knife...]

"Science," She repeated the word. "Like how the electricity works?" Once the fever had broken, the nurses and doctors were more than welling to answer her questions-of which there were a lot of.

"Why'd it change this time?" She couldn't think it had anything to do with cooking. "What's the hair color you were born with?"

"I know. It's a long time." A few more months and Ivar will have been here a year, plus he's almost seventeen. It's a bit heady to think he's been gone from home for so long, away from everything familiar, and from the revenge he still had yet to carry out.

"She was born an albino. You know, no colors but white and with her eyes red." He sounds a little defensive. Yes, he knows not all children look like her, but his daughter is perfect regardless of what she looks like.

"So many people come and go..." Lola mused, not really to Ivar. But they've been here this long. Of course there were so many people who'd been here for years, but they were people that wanted to be here. Unlike everyone they knew. Who were always mixed.

"Oh right, that." Lola had noticed, because her mind always went to colors and such. She just didn't think it mattered terribly. Lola's always got such an odd way of thinking about looks, which is where this topic had gotten to. "It'll mean she has to take more care with what she does, wearing more layers to protect her skin, no tanning. But it gives her a lot of options if she wants to try things out. All make-up she wears will just pop, and if she wants to she can do whatever she likes with her hair color wise."

Lola's not really envious, but back when she dyed her hair being snow white blond would have been convenient.

"Yeah, not the same science, but those are both science."

"Oh, I forgot one of the spices, it tasted all wrong. I'd gotten surprised by that." Lola thought for a moment. Closed her eyes, and Lola's hair turned a nice rich brown color. She smiled, "Sometimes I forget what it looked like, I haven't really worn it this color in five years."

"They do." Ivar remembered all the friends he'd made that had left the Quarantine. Some had hurt more than others, but he remembered them all, wondering if they'd gone home, or somewhere even more fantastic than this.

"It always comes down to make-up and hair with you." Ivar says this in a teasing tone. It's what Lola's strength was at. "By the time she's old enough for all that, I'll be almost thirty." In other words, he'll be old. Never mind that his own father hadn't had him till he was around thirty-four or thirty-five.

"I play to my strengths," Lola beams, she does come back to hair and make-up, and clothes, and just generally the stuff she knows. She knows a little about how Winter will need extra skin care. Light skin is easily damaged, but that's not a super big concern just yet. When do babies start moving on their own?

Lola does shudder a little at the talk of getting old, "I'll still look good when I'm older, being short helps people just assume I'm a little younger than I am. But yeah, let's steer clear of thinking about getting old."

She leaned against the counter, resting her chin on her hands. "I'm told there are books on all sorts of 'sciences', but they're still having me learn to read." None of those books had to do with science though; she had a feeling she won't be reading those books for awhile.

The hair change made her smile. "I like the blue color on you."

[ Meanwhile, Sarah just... stares at Lola's head. ]

Your hair.

"I'm surprised you've never tried any of that makeover stuff with me." Maybe because Ivar was as stubborn as a mule and would resist all changes to his appearance. Better to save that for people that were actually receptive towards it.

"People are going to think you're twelve for another ten years," he says with snark. As for Ivar, he's pretty much looked the same since he was about fourteen, being one of those teens who went through a huge metamorphosis in about six months, going from looking a child to an adult in record time.

*Lola sighs. Hair going a little darker as she does.*

Your world has magic, how is my hair that weird in comparison?

"Because I imagine getting you a nice shirt and you'll wear it to work and get it covered in blood." Also she's not as good at fashion for men, she does fine but it isn't her area of expertise. She can offer advice for what fits better, what shows off better, but she can't really do makeovers like that without a real goal that they can express to her. Like Yael did.

"Only if they don't look at my butt, my butt's way too good to be mistaken for a child." Lola reached maximum height early, but she didn't really fill out until she got to high school. She could do all sorts of things to make herself look more mature if she felt like it. Darker clothes, less showy make-up, non-blue hair. But none of that seemed like fun, so she'll just stay how she is a little longer. "You work out enough you'd never have to worry about that."

"Even if you learn to read science books are really hard," Lola tried, often, to figure out science stuff. Usually she just took the article or book to someone smarter and had them dumb it down for her.

"It feels more like me than brown," Lola continued to mill about the kitchen stirring this and spicing that as she checked on everything. Her hair stayed brown for maybe half a minute before the blue took back over. "I wore it this color when I arrived, I kinda feel if anyone I know gets here I'll be easier to see with this hair."

Not that she really expected any family, but who knows. Gyda was here, and Ivar was alone before that.

*Lola, fortunately, did not get lost picking outfits. She arrived home reasonably well, and while not all the way ready to go, she was close enough. She had her hair done, make-up done, and her dress on. Just picking out the right sweater and coat for the weather, and trying to determine the sort of shoes that would look best but carry traction outside. So Keith didn't wait long at the door for Lola to get down there. With a jacket over the dress and her boots (fashionable but not too showy) in hand as she opened the door.*

Just about ready, lemme get my boots on.

*She didn't go to kiss him because she needed the extra height from her boots.*

[He nodded as she explained and let him in.]

Sure.

[Keith almost wondered about the kiss, since she was usually pretty quick to do that. But, he waited all the same. He was just glad he had good timing on when to show up. For himself, he was wearing a pretty casual outfit, but not sloppy. And, his usual color scheme... because color-coded anime protags do that, you know. It was appropriate for a nice dinner and movie date without getting super fancy.

Geeze... it felt like forever since he'd done something like this as an actual date. In order to try to seem less impatient by watching her, he tried to calmly take in the area of the house around the door.]

My world has magic. I didn't say I was used to it.

[ Still, Lola's answer makes her smile. ] That happened here?
