The Yule celebration has gotten underway on the Winter Solstice and it promises to be a most interesting night. The Norse have gone all out with this affair to make sure it's going to be a success. First thing to be spotted is a bonfire, so big that you might want to be careful not to trip around it, because you'll fall right in. There's plenty of room for dancing too, if you feel like grooving to a beat that's a little more unusual than most.

The Yule celebration shares a lot of similarities with Christmas, so it's a good time for gift giving. There's little shoes on a table, mimicking the tradition where Odin would leave presents for good children by putting them in their shoes. Claim one as your own and maybe a friend will leave a gift inside one for you. Watch it though. Any grinches will be fed to the Yule Cat.

There's a table set up to the right of the bonfire with food, mostly of the hearty kind that the Norse seem to prefer, and of course, lots of alcohol. Please remember not to get into any drinking contests with the gods. They will observe no responsibility for what happens afterward.

There are also mushrooms for consumption, provided by everyone's favorite psychotic Viking, Ivar The Boneless. These ones are directly from his home world, which means they come with a variety of side effects. They have the ability to make a person hallucinate quite a bit. But they can also make people much more horny than usual. Lastly, there's the effect that hits some people in making them extremely violent. Sometimes one effect hits, sometimes more than one. In any case, anyone who consumes some is assured to have an...interesting time.

On a lighter note, there's mistletoe scattered around, hung from the trees and tent beams. Fun fact: the Vikings were the first one to use it for the tradition of kissing. Of course, they also believed it was a plant that was powerful enough to kill a god, so the kissing was ostensibly for protection.

At the height of the night, there will be an animal sacrifice done. A goat is slaughtered and the blood from it is gathered into a couple of bowls. If you'd really like to go all out like a Viking, paint your face in the still-warm blood, or drink a little bit of it. Otherwise, enjoy freshly seared chunks of goat as it bastes over the bonfire.

[Thor nods in understanding, processing the information as he claps Billy firmly on the shoulder.]

Now, Billiam, I notice you've taken an eager interest in my smallest, eldest brother. In each others pockets, as it were. [Thor laughs, it's cute, then his face is stone cold.] What are your intentions?

( that’s still wrong, dude. but he’s not going to correct thor, that sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen. and thor still scares him a little. not much, but enough. )

We’re dating. ( trying to come up with something that wouldn’t get him lightning bolted is probably dumb, so. truth it is. ) He’s my boyfriend. I guess my intentions are. . ( how. how does he describe boyfriending intentions. ) To date him? I guess.

Yes, but why? Because you love him, or because you're infatuated? [Thor places his hands on his hips.]

Answer honestly, I need to know how shallow your grave will be.

Because I like him? Because he's stupidly clingy and likes to hang off of people, he's sweet and cares about. . some people. He's trying to be better.

( it's not quite the answer thor is looking for, but it's the best he has. )

I wouldn't date Loki just because I was infatuated with him.

[Thor mulls it over for a moment, obviously trying to look like he's thinking about this. Billy is infuriatingly well-behaved, it makes it hard to bully him.]

Good. [He answers positively, as if Billy has correctly answered some sort of ancient riddle.] Can you blame me for being a little protective?

No. ( because he knows how shit of a time loki’s had here. he’s starting to figure out how broken up about. . a lot of things he is. that he’s definitely changed since they spent forever and a half on noh-varr’s ship, traveling the multiverse and getting harassed by weird aliens. ) I’m not saying I won’t hurt him, I can’t promise that. But I’ll try not to.

( this thor is so much different from the one he’s familiar with, wow. in a good way though. )

I guess I can't ask for much more than that. [But being a big brother is more to him than just a weird, multi-versal title. It's a job, he takes it seriously.]

Maybe I should worry more about what he'll do to you. [He's still a troublemaker, even if his trouble is well intended.]

You don't have to worry about me. I'm used to him. ( and can handle himself, generally speaking. at least when it comes to trickster gods with loud mouths.

but he does totally understand the big brothering thing, having two younger brothers of his own. granted, they're not here, they're not mischief making gods, but it. still is a bit surprising to hear grave-threads coming from thor when it comes to dating loki. ) And he should know better than to mess with me magically.

Yes, you know him from back home, don't you? [Thor almost forgot that there was a history there. It's a little comforting, knowing Loki has people to look out for him, even if he can't come home with Thor.]

Does he act differently here?

[wiccant]

Very. But in his defense, last I saw him, he’d just gone from thirteen to twenty in a few moments, so I’m sure he was still adjusting to that. He used to be a tiny brat. ( small, annoying, full of lies and trying to manipulate billy out of all his power.

almost got him killed on more than one occasion, too. he moves his arms up in front of himself, crosses them over his chest. ) That Loki used to be a real pest—not in the way he is now. Now he’s alright.

[Thor gives Billy the exact sort of vaguely confused expression that his explanation deserves, then shrugs.]

The bigger they get, the pestier they become. [Thor jerks a head at his own Loki, mingling in the distance.]

( he could explain the whole, loki died, then came back as a preteen, then got a magic hand-up and aged back up to his twenties because his tiny body couldn't use all the magic lokis were supposed to have access to. but that's a lot of explaining. )

Then I really hope they don't grow anymore. ( these two are pesty enough as it is. )
