The Yule Log

who: The Norse and everyone else in the city!
what: The Norse celebrate Yule. Gods help everyone.
when: December 22nd, Winter Solstice
where: Somewhere outside
warnings: Alcohol, drugs, animal sacrifice, blood play, rough foreplay, sex. Will update if necessary.

The Yule celebration has gotten underway on the Winter Solstice and it promises to be a most interesting night. The Norse have gone all out with this affair to make sure it's going to be a success. First thing to be spotted is a bonfire, so big that you might want to be careful not to trip around it, because you'll fall right in. There's plenty of room for dancing too, if you feel like grooving to a beat that's a little more unusual than most.

The Yule celebration shares a lot of similarities with Christmas, so it's a good time for gift giving. There's little shoes on a table, mimicking the tradition where Odin would leave presents for good children by putting them in their shoes. Claim one as your own and maybe a friend will leave a gift inside one for you. Watch it though. Any grinches will be fed to the Yule Cat.

There's a table set up to the right of the bonfire with food, mostly of the hearty kind that the Norse seem to prefer, and of course, lots of alcohol. Please remember not to get into any drinking contests with the gods. They will observe no responsibility for what happens afterward.

There are also mushrooms for consumption, provided by everyone's favorite psychotic Viking, Ivar The Boneless. These ones are directly from his home world, which means they come with a variety of side effects. They have the ability to make a person hallucinate quite a bit. But they can also make people much more horny than usual. Lastly, there's the effect that hits some people in making them extremely violent. Sometimes one effect hits, sometimes more than one. In any case, anyone who consumes some is assured to have an...interesting time.

On a lighter note, there's mistletoe scattered around, hung from the trees and tent beams. Fun fact: the Vikings were the first one to use it for the tradition of kissing. Of course, they also believed it was a plant that was powerful enough to kill a god, so the kissing was ostensibly for protection.

At the height of the night, there will be an animal sacrifice done. A goat is slaughtered and the blood from it is gathered into a couple of bowls. If you'd really like to go all out like a Viking, paint your face in the still-warm blood, or drink a little bit of it. Otherwise, enjoy freshly seared chunks of goat as it bastes over the bonfire.

Have fun, drink, fight, and remember to make your ancestors proud!

M-mn... I guess so.

[ Aoba draws up his knees a little, but he successfully resists the urge to crawl in on himself -- this is, after all, not the first time he's met someone who looked so physiologically different from him. He's met an alien. A few scales isn't that bad. And besides... if he can handle such personalities like the Matsunos and Dave Striders of this quarantine, he can handle just about anything, right?

That's not to say that he doesn't have questions, though. ]

You say that like you're not... human, I mean.

[ Aeacinos snorts in response, his breath coming out in a puff of smoke. He'll sway his tail to the music though he himself is still rigid. He's not one for dancing but the rhythm is rather enticing. Though there's hardly enough room on the dance floor for him to fit, so it's best that he just stay off to the side. ]

Do I look human? I was not born from a mother's womb like you humans are. I was created from objects picked by my goddess to ensure I was a strong and nearly perfect warrior for her. That in and of itself is entirely inhuman, even without my appearance to go on. This form of mine is not my true form, but something I use to get around easier with.

This on the day of my daughters wedding

[ There's a sound of something moving behind him and when Aoba looks, his eyes widen at the tail that swings on it's own. He quickly directs his face forward again, shoulders stiff. HOLY SHIT. Now Aoba really pulls up his knees to his chin and hugs his legs. This is a little more than alarming! ]

I...is that so?

[ Made from objects picked by his goddess. What a curious way of putting it though... it makes him perk up a little, lifting his chin to address him. ]

So your maker constructed you out of objects... were they mechanical?

at least he's a nice snake man to have at a wedding?!

[ Aeacinos looks a bit more bemused at Aoba's reaction towards seeing his tail. ] You were saying about my not being human? [ It's said in jest as he moves to curl his tail a bit more under him. He rather not have it get stepped on by any drunkards around. ]

They are not. I was created with a warrior's emblem, the scale of a mighty serpent, and a cloudy mirror that projects illusions to those who look through it.

[ Aoba flashes him a sheepish smile as he inclines his head. The scales were definitely something else, but the tail... yes, that's... certainly not human. ]

A warrior's emblem, a serpent's scale and a mirror that shows illusions...

[ He's not exactly imaginative, but he's sort of mechanically inclined, so he tries to imagine what these pieces would look like, what shape they would need to be to build a man like this and... nope, it's just not coming to him. He's not religious either, so that... does not help. ]

...

[ Aoba gives him a flat, unimpressed look. That sounds fake but okay. ]

Are you sure that's not code for something?

[ Aeacinos snorts, folding his arms across his chest. ]

There is no code. It is simply how I came to be. The essence from those objects are what was used to create my form.

[ Are you seriously thinking he's lying about his own creation?! ]

It is not as...definitive as the birth of you humans, but it is how it works in our world.
