ragnarsson: ([12.12] Sacrifice)

The Yule Log

who: The Norse and everyone else in the city!
what: The Norse celebrate Yule. Gods help everyone.
when: December 22nd, Winter Solstice
where: Somewhere outside
warnings: Alcohol, drugs, animal sacrifice, blood play, rough foreplay, sex. Will update if necessary.

The Yule celebration has gotten underway on the Winter Solstice and it promises to be a most interesting night. The Norse have gone all out with this affair to make sure it's going to be a success. First thing to be spotted is a bonfire, so big that you might want to be careful not to trip around it, because you'll fall right in. There's plenty of room for dancing too, if you feel like grooving to a beat that's a little more unusual than most.

The Yule celebration shares a lot of similarities with Christmas, so it's a good time for gift giving. There's little shoes on a table, mimicking the tradition where Odin would leave presents for good children by putting them in their shoes. Claim one as your own and maybe a friend will leave a gift inside one for you. Watch it though. Any grinches will be fed to the Yule Cat.

There's a table set up to the right of the bonfire with food, mostly of the hearty kind that the Norse seem to prefer, and of course, lots of alcohol. Please remember not to get into any drinking contests with the gods. They will observe no responsibility for what happens afterward.

There are also mushrooms for consumption, provided by everyone's favorite psychotic Viking, Ivar The Boneless. These ones are directly from his home world, which means they come with a variety of side effects. They have the ability to make a person hallucinate quite a bit. But they can also make people much more horny than usual. Lastly, there's the effect that hits some people in making them extremely violent. Sometimes one effect hits, sometimes more than one. In any case, anyone who consumes some is assured to have an...interesting time.

On a lighter note, there's mistletoe scattered around, hung from the trees and tent beams. Fun fact: the Vikings were the first one to use it for the tradition of kissing. Of course, they also believed it was a plant that was powerful enough to kill a god, so the kissing was ostensibly for protection.

At the height of the night, there will be an animal sacrifice done. A goat is slaughtered and the blood from it is gathered into a couple of bowls. If you'd really like to go all out like a Viking, paint your face in the still-warm blood, or drink a little bit of it. Otherwise, enjoy freshly seared chunks of goat as it bastes over the bonfire.

Have fun, drink, fight, and remember to make your ancestors proud!

[His brow furrowed in disbelief and he gave the man a once over.] You must be from the same world as Sif and Thor are. As with them, our stories describe all of you as looking very different. Our stories also seem to differ completely in some cases. Thor is unwed, has no mistress, and no children. Sif is a goddess of war and not a golden-haired goddess of grain and fertility.

[Unlike with the other gods he'd met, however, Ragnar was visibly tense, having to exert even more effort to stay focused and alert around the 'sly one' while under the influence.]

Even so. I apologize. Loki. I will mark you with the blood from the sacrifice if that is your wish.
dothelokimotion: (Immortality is stupid)

Yes, well. Sometimes, our stories get away from us.

[ Though he still has some fondness for them. They display creativity, nuance. ]

I will, should you provide me with an introduction in turn.

[He fought back the urge to explain himself further. It was more than just stories and appearances. It was what they were gods of and who they were related to. With Sif, she was nothing at all like the counterpart Ragnar knew of in any way aside from name. He almost wanted to ask Loki if he was the god of good will, truth and benevolence, but, for once, kept his mouth shut.]

Ragnar Lothbrok of Kattegat. Norðvegr. [He left off that he was an Earl, it would likely make no difference at all to the god. Nor should it.]

[ Ivar's father. Well, now this was interesting. Loki files it away with a hum, toying with his helm, spinning it on his finger. ]

Your name is known to us. Very well. I will allow you to mark me.

... Us? [Something told him he should probably be worried. But without hesitation, he dipped just his thumbs in the blood. Putting a hand on either side of the trickster god's face, he drew lines under Loki's eyes, moving from the inner corner of his eyes to his cheekbones. He dipped his thumb back into the blood one more time and drew a thick line down Loki's chin, starting just under his lower lip then down his chin and the front of his neck.]

May you find glory and victory in all your endeavors in the year to come. [The line was recited in Old Norse, a common blessing to hear their priests say at Yule.]

[ Loki tilts his head, letting the blood run. ]

Not bad. It has been a long time.

[personal profile] storradr 2017-12-14 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
A long time? [He knows he should just leave it at that and not say anything else. But he's trying and failing to keep a very suggestive smirk from tugging at his lips.] A long time for what?
dothelokimotion: (The concept of transitioning)

[personal profile] dothelokimotion 2017-12-14 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ Loki chuckles. Very much Ivar's father indeed. He bats his eyes suggestively, green eyes alight. ]

Wouldn't you like to know?

How are you settling in your new realm, Ragnar of Lothbrok?

[personal profile] storradr 2017-12-15 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
[He supposed that was the kind of answer he'd deserved.]

This place is very strange and full of things I have never seen before, never imagined or even dreamed of. I still do not understand why I am here. I've been told the reason, but I do not agree.

Why would you, or any of the gods, be here?
dothelokimotion: (We are happening now)

[personal profile] dothelokimotion 2017-12-15 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
[ Loki shrugs. ]

You are not the only ones who chart courses in strange new lands.

[personal profile] storradr 2017-12-15 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
I am aware. [He gave Loki a deadpan look.] It was you who asked.

[personal profile] dothelokimotion 2017-12-15 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
Do you not appreciate our presence here?

[ He's teasing. ]
storradr: (636)

[personal profile] storradr 2017-12-15 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[He chose his words carefully, even if the god was just teasing him.]

I am simply curious why you would be here. The reasons we are brought here were told to me and they do not sound applicable to the gods.

That... and, as I have said, you are almost my gods, but different. Some of you more different than others. Your world and my world are not the same one. [It made it difficult to figure out how to treat these new gods.]
dothelokimotion: (With all the fear and respect)

[personal profile] dothelokimotion 2017-12-16 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ Loki waves a flippant hand. ]

I doubt there was much in the way of reasons when we were brought here. An accident of chaos, more like.
storradr: (5)

[personal profile] storradr 2017-12-16 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Now that was an interesting point of view right there and it was obvious Ragnar was considering it.]

You think they lie to us about the reasons we arrive in this place? [A random accident actually made more sense to him, but that was not what they claimed.]
dothelokimotion: (All hail the mighty glow cloud)

[personal profile] dothelokimotion 2017-12-16 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
No.

[ That much, Loki can give leeway in. He has spent enough time in Riverview to dismiss some of his paranoia. ]

The people clearly believe what they say, but I do not think all of us are drawn here due to loss.
storradr: (5)

[personal profile] storradr 2017-12-16 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
Loss? I've been told it is because people felt out of place where they were.

But. You think it is due to an accident? Random?

[It made sense. He hadn't felt out of place.]
dothelokimotion: (No one listens when I talk)

[personal profile] dothelokimotion 2017-12-16 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
That is a feeling of loss.

I believe so. Portals are, mm, strange chaotic magic. Even though I am adept in my use of them, they do not always follow a "rule".
storradr: (636)

[personal profile] storradr 2017-12-16 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Ragnar nodded absently. He knew nothing of portals, or magic, but if anyone would, it would be the god Loki.]

In the end, it likely does not matter. We are here. [And that was all there was to it.]
dothelokimotion: (Comfort was the answer to all)

[personal profile] dothelokimotion 2017-12-16 10:56 am (UTC)(link)
[ His lips twitch. ]

Indeed. You must make the most of it.

[He cocks his head to the side, looking honestly a little confused.]

What other option would there be? [He's completely serious.]

[personal profile] dothelokimotion 2017-12-17 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
There are always options. Perhaps none for departure, but enough to decide.

Though not always the most well-planned ones.
