The Yule celebration has gotten underway on the Winter Solstice and it promises to be a most interesting night. The Norse have gone all out with this affair to make sure it's going to be a success. First thing to be spotted is a bonfire, so big that you might want to be careful not to trip around it, because you'll fall right in. There's plenty of room for dancing too, if you feel like grooving to a beat that's a little more unusual than most.

The Yule celebration shares a lot of similarities with Christmas, so it's a good time for gift giving. There's little shoes on a table, mimicking the tradition where Odin would leave presents for good children by putting them in their shoes. Claim one as your own and maybe a friend will leave a gift inside one for you. Watch it though. Any grinches will be fed to the Yule Cat.

There's a table set up to the right of the bonfire with food, mostly of the hearty kind that the Norse seem to prefer, and of course, lots of alcohol. Please remember not to get into any drinking contests with the gods. They will observe no responsibility for what happens afterward.

There are also mushrooms for consumption, provided by everyone's favorite psychotic Viking, Ivar The Boneless. These ones are directly from his home world, which means they come with a variety of side effects. They have the ability to make a person hallucinate quite a bit. But they can also make people much more horny than usual. Lastly, there's the effect that hits some people in making them extremely violent. Sometimes one effect hits, sometimes more than one. In any case, anyone who consumes some is assured to have an...interesting time.

On a lighter note, there's mistletoe scattered around, hung from the trees and tent beams. Fun fact: the Vikings were the first one to use it for the tradition of kissing. Of course, they also believed it was a plant that was powerful enough to kill a god, so the kissing was ostensibly for protection.

At the height of the night, there will be an animal sacrifice done. A goat is slaughtered and the blood from it is gathered into a couple of bowls. If you'd really like to go all out like a Viking, paint your face in the still-warm blood, or drink a little bit of it. Otherwise, enjoy freshly seared chunks of goat as it bastes over the bonfire.

Have fun, drink, fight, and remember to make your ancestors proud!

[ Pardon as she literally laughs herself into another gender, the slips are happening more often tonight thanks to those shrooms. It's not even a conscious decision at this point.

Loki tips his head back in a fit of giggles. ]

I want to see it! I need it!

[ He grins. ]

I'd need to find another acting troupe. And write my script once more.

[ He gasps and sits up, grasping his twin's top. ]

Can I play you?

[ LOKICEPTION ... ]

[ He blinks. ]

I don't see why not.

Yessss! I'll do you proud, you'll love it.

[ Patting his twin's thigh fondly. ]

Of that, I have no doubt.

[ Humming and wriggling in excitement, he wraps an arm around his twin and stuffs his face in the curve of a neck, peppering kisses. Loki may be long-legged but he curls up easily on the chair, tucked in as his cheer turns to affection. The way he rubs his cheek on a shoulder begs more without words. ]

[ Loki rubs quiet circles into his other self's back with a satisfied hum. ]

You really are in a good mood. Is it simply faithful prayers that brought this on?

[ Those caresses keep him still, a pretzel on his twin's lap. ]

It's been a long time since people didn't think I was lying about who I was and know me without a lengthy explanation. They're not afraid.

[ As the only overly social Loki he knows, he thrives on positive company. ]

And ...

[ A good sign. Loki doubts he's there but he's not fussed about it anymore. He is Loki and right now, that is a canvas he is exploring. ]

And?

[ A grin flashes and he leans up to whisper. ]

And a boy likes me.

[ Someone is approximately ten years old all of a sudden, cheeks turning pink from shrooms and pleasure. ]

[ His lips curve. ]

Congratulations. Do I know who this is?

I can't tell you, it's an absolute secret.

[ Wait for it. ]

But he's an offensively pretty reality-warping witch wearing a red cloak. Can you spot him?

[ Oh, thank the Nords, not another Stark. ]

Ah, I've met him. He's . . . [ He pauses. ] Sweet?

[ No Stark can replace his own, his Starshine speaker. ]

You've no idea. [ The sweetest, his hum insists. ] We go way back, he knew ... he knew me at my worst and forgives what I did to him. Billy is a tender-hearted soul that I don't deserve. I'm well aware he's too good for the likes of me.

[ Loki shrugs. ]

It is not about who is good or not. It is about the choice.

[ Hmmm. ]

I'm worried I may corrupt him. He's gentle without being a pushover, kind without being a fool, and clever in the way he reads hearts ... I don't want to break any of that.

[ Gushfest is happening, buckle down. ]

[ He raises an eyebrow. ]

I am quite sure he is not so delicate. Unless you intend to break it, he'll be fine.

You don't understand!

[ Huffing, he hides his face in the curve of a neck. This is not the way he behaved when with Tony, flustered and unsure of himself; a child with a crush. ]

Never mind.

[ Loki gives him a pointed look. ]

I understand that you never feel like enough. And that there is a sense that it will end soon or that we will ruin it.

[ C'mon. He Knows. ]

But you cannot decide for them or let those fears decide. We all have the time in the world. Why not let that decide how it will go rather than those destructive thoughts?

[ Loki has less of those fears because his relationship with Steve is different. It was never about Steve being good and Loki being bad. They were similar people. Stubborn, defensive, trying to look past their own reputations. ]

[ Shaking his head, he tips it back to return that look with a softer one. ]

He has a fiance back home, we've agreed to be a thing on this moon, but we both know it won't last forever. Billy has already returned to his lover at my point in our time-line, so I ... I don't harbour any illusions about him staying with me forever, or a grand romance blooming.

I just want to be ... [ the best I can, ] here for him, for as long as we do have.

What is wrong with that?

[ Loki rests a finger under his twin's chin. ]

I told you once. Sometimes, it is better to be foolish.

I seem to have a knack for irreparably hurting those I love the most. [ With his chin tilted up, he pecks Loki on the cheek. ] Except for you, my one outlier to all rules.

[ He smiles faintly. ]

I wonder why.

Are you not the one who writes his own story? Knack or not, you are not determined by it. Neither does it define you.

Tricks are played upon me by myself and I hardly seem to notice. [ That gives him an idea, though. ] Billy could turn me into a potato with a thought, I'm not worried about the way he defends himself magically. If I should upset him and I don't notice, though, would you protect him from me?

[ Guilt stains his expression. ]

I almost drove him to suicide, once. It's astonishing he even talks to me.
