[Ivar had never had anesthesia before. The last time he'd been hurt badly, courtesy of Dodger, he'd been too out of it when they finally got to him to realize what they were doing.]

We'd better go to the clinic. They're none too fond of me at the hospital.

[For good reason too. Ivar was an unholy terror nearly every time he ended up there. Aside from Dr. Strange, they all tended to give him a wide berth.]

[ Shigeru will nod emphatically at that. ]

Okay. We'll do that then. I have everything at my clinic anyway. I'll call a taxi to take us there, is that okay?

[ Has Ivar ever rode in a taxi before?! He doesn't want to freak him out too much if he can help it. ]

That's fine.

[Ivar's gotten used to the strange modes of transportation the city has. The jostling ride is extremely painful on his fractured leg, but then, what isn't right now?]

[ Shigeru tries to heal some of the damage on their way to the clinic. The pain won't be as intense and Ivar would definitely notice the difference.

Once they're pulled up to Shigeru's clinic he'll get out first so as to aid the other man in getting out. They'll manage to get to the clinic without any problems and Shigeru will direct Ivar towards the waiting room. ]

I need to go prep myself and get everything ready. So just wait here for a few minutes, okay?

[Ivar feels a little better by the time they get to the clinic. His face has gone back to its normal shade instead of the deathly ill look he had about him.]

Where else am I going to go?

[Even with being in a tremendous amount of pain, Ivar still has his snark to fall back on. He waited for Shigeru to prepare. Despite all his protests, he's glad this will soon be done and over with. When he broke a leg back home, he could do nothing but wait for it to heal on its own, and usually badly at that.]

[ Well Ivar had a point. It's not like he could really get around with his condition. But Shigeru will have his legs healed in no time. He'll return after a few short moments a monitor and some IVs hanging from the IVs drip. Even if he could handle the entire process by himself he wanted to make sure the other was comfortable. ]

Do you want me to...fully heal you? I can make it so that you could walk normally.

[ Honestly he's been wondering if that was too personal a matter. But if he's going to heal Ivar's legs then, well, he may as well ask if he wanted anything else fixed. ]

I'm sorry if that's too personal! It's just...I can help you regain movement of your legs if you ever wanted. I didn't ask before because I didn't want to offend you and your situation, but I want to help as much as possible.

[Ivar watches Shigeru come back with mild interest. What he says is the last thing Ivar was prepared to hear. He's floored.]

You...could do that?

[Ivar couldn't help the naked expression of hope that crossed his face. He'd always thought as a child that just someday he'd be able to get up and walk, a miracle that would just happen overnight. Here in the Quarantine, even with all their advancements, they hadn't been able to provide him with the magical solution he wanted. Yet here Shigeru was providing one. Then he steels his expression back under control.]

What's the catch?

[ Shigeru nods happily at the question. ]

Of course I can! My powers allow me heal anything organic and inorganic. [ Death is not something he can fix though. But aside from that everything is fair game for Shigeru. ]

It'll take a few months to do. My powers are weakened here and a procedure like that takes at least two months for me normally. So around four or five months for this place is a good estimate.

[ And then he'll pause because he looks a bit...worried. ]

You won't...try to hurt Dodger will you?

[ He's still worried about that last video they made?! It's just that he doesn't like people fighting and if he somehow aided in that...he'd feel horrible. ]

If you could do that, I'd be forever in your debt. You're sure it'd work on brittle bone syndrome?

[He'd gotten a diagnosis after several months in Riverview, and while people had tried to explain how it worked with DNA, Ivar had only really understood that this went very deep into his body.]

Dodger and I have a complicated relationship.

[Yes, there was anger, grudges, and a rivalry there, but also a level of respect. Ivar seemed to be one of the few people Dodger spoke to on a regular basis. What Ivar didn't know was that Shigeru seemed to have a relationship with him as well.]

Do you care for him?

[ Ah. And here Shigeru's face and expression tell all. He does care for the man quite a bit even if their own relationship was complicated in a way. ]

I do. He's...one of the few people here that's helped me with my phobia a lot.

[ Hell the only reason why Shigeru can even stand people's touch is due to Dodger and Genji's efforts. ]

I just wish he would...stop getting hurt so much.

Trying to get Dodger to stop getting hurt is like trying to get a bone away from a dog. It's an exercise in futility.

[Interesting. Why would his nemesis be helping someone like Shigeru? What was he getting out of it? Was there some advantage that Dodger got from being around Shigeru? Or could it be he actually cared about the man? Maybe he really had been full of shit when he said there was no one he cared for in Riverview.]

Say, were you the one that regrew his missing eye?

[The one that Ivar had stabbed out about a month after Dodger had arrived here. He'd been trying to solve the mystery of how he'd gotten his eye back for a while now.]

Yes that was me. [ He also took care of Dodger's many wounds fighting Ivar and whoever else. ]

It worries me that he gets hurt so much. But I guess I should be used it to by now. [ Knowing him for as long as he has he's getting better at now fretting or getting worried as much. ]

He asked me to help fix his eye.

[Well, now he knew where Dodger kept running off to when he was done licking his wounds. He was a lucky bastard to have someone so willing to treat his many injuries.]

You worry too much about things that are beyond your control. Dodger will do what he will regardless of what anyone else thinks.

[Much like Ivar himself did.]

I hate to turn to other things, since I am curious about the two of you, but I still have a broken leg that needs fixing.

Of course! I'm sorry! Do you think you can manage getting onto the table? I can help you if you need.

[ But he doesn't want to offend Ivar either?! ]

I think I can manage.

[Indeed, he swallows the pain down, and shifts himself so that he can get onto the table. He reminds himself that this will all be over soon, for better or for worse.]

[ And once Ivar is situated properly Shigeru gets to work. First administering the anesthesia, which puts Ivar into a comfortable and deep sleep. From there he'll activate his gate and use his powers to sent and mend the broken bone. For Ivar the pain will be greatly reduced and that compound break will now only be a small fracture.

With the anesthesia wearing off Ivar will wake up in a clean room in the clinic. The pain only a dull ache now instead of what it once was. Shigeru will come in after a few minutes to check on him, he'll have a tray of food in his hands that he'll put down with a smile. ]

How are you feeling? Are you up for eating? Everything went perfectly. So you should be good to go. I think another session or two and you'll be 100% healed up.

[ As for healing his brittle bone syndrome that would...take a lot more time. Given that it's rewriting a person's genetics and completely erasing it from their body. Procedures for such things in Shigeru's world were done with multiple phrobiests. But he's certain in his own skills to be able to do it on his own. ]

[Ivar feels a little groggy as he comes to. His mouth is dry and he runs his tongue around the inside of it. But the thing he notices most of all is, blessedly, the pain is almost entirely gone. He sits up a little straighter when Shigeru comes in.]

I feel a lot better. And I could use something to eat.

[He's about to dig in when he remembers his manners.]

Thank you for healing me.

[For anyone else, he might question their motivations for helping him, but Shigeru is such a good, nice person, he can't help but see him as doing this just because it was the right thing to do.]

[ Shigeru gives him a happy smile and nod at the thanks. ]

You don't have to thank me. It's my job after all. And please don't hesitate to contact me next, okay? You could've gotten really sick if you stayed like that for any longer.

[ What is with him and knowing people that get hurt and refuse to get treatment?! Is this just his curse... ]

Winter! Is she okay? Is someone looking after her right now? [ He almost forgot?! Shigeru looks worried as he turns to Ivar again. ]

I'll keep you in mind.

[Ivar getting hurt again is an inevitability. He just lives too violent of a life to stay whole and hale for too long. At least now he knows where he can turn to if his injuries are too much for him to handle.]

My sister is watching her. Don't worry.

[Was it wise to leave an infant in the care of a twelve year old? Well, Ivar seemed to think so.]

[ Well he at least lets out a relieved huff of air at that. Of course not knowing how young his sister is, is making it easier to really accept. But! What he doesn't know won't kill him. ]

I'll give you some pain killers if it gets to be too much. With how much I healed it you should only have to come back for another two or three sessions.

If you can make time to do so. Otherwise it'll heal on its own in a few weeks.

Good. This is a lot better than how I healed back home.

[There, it was days and agonizing weeks of having his legs confined to a splint that likely wouldn't heal the bones correctly anyway. This was an astounding improvement already and his leg still was fractured.]

I'll come back. After we're done, maybe we can discuss healing my legs in a more permanent fashion?

Of course! I'd like to discuss that more with you anyway.

[ But Ivar needs rest and they've got plenty of time to discuss things like that. ]

But for now you should get home and rest for the next few days. As your doctor I recommend no heavy duty moving for a day or two if you can manage it.

I'll keep that in mind.

[He's nearly done plowing through the tray of food, so he sets it aside, maneuvering himself to the edge of the bed so that he can reach his wheelchair. He looks over to Shigeru, words coming more slowly now. Ivar will never get used to kindness freely given without expecting anything in return.]

I don't know what I would have done without you.

[ Oh. Well. Shigeru wasn't really expecting that as he watches Ivar. His face might color slightly at those words though before he shakes his head and smiles. ]

It's really no problem. I...do this on a daily basis so it's no trouble at all. Just...take care of yourself, okay?

I'll try to.

[He says wryly. Ivar's never one to stay whole for too long. He's always getting into one scrape or another. He wheels out of the room, feeling ten times better than when he had first come into the clinic.]
