prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. unveiling the new friendr

Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.

The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!

Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

[ Going out in the wild on his own is often a peaceful and calming experience in and of itself. Jim doesn't often run into a lot of dangers, and he's careful enough to avoid confrontations with any dangerous animals or any potential traps that might be set up anywhere. Alone with his own thoughts, he gets to study the area, focus on his ideas, and come back with a decent amount of information most of the times.

But it's also nice having some company from time to time, which is why he's extended that offer to a few people. Besides, at least they won't be going out there on their own. Not that he thinks Loki of all people can't handle himself, of course— but he does enjoy his company.

Since he's doing a slightly longer trail this time, they have to camp out here for the night, and once the sun starts to set they find a secluded and safe enough spot, and Jim works on setting up a makeshift tent to at least protect them from the night breeze, leaving it to Loki to get a campfire started. ]

I brought some food but we can try to fish something out of the river. There's a stream not too far from here, and it's not too dark yet.

[ Loki thrives on Jim's company. The whole expedition has him in excellent spirits and when he builds a careful campfire it's with a flick of his wrist that he sets it alight, green flames turning the usual orange. His armour melts away, leaving jeans and a hoodie, and the godling pulls his backpack over to the flickering firelight to start pulling out ... things.

Too many things that ought not to be able to fit in there, like a frying pan and tupperware containing take-out. ]

I came prepared! Only the best plum sauce for my captain.

[ Jim glances over just in time to see Loki change from his armor to something more comfortable, his eyebrows raising up his forehead when he starts pulling things out of his backpack. After a moment he just lets out a laugh, shaking his head a little at the ridiculousness of it all. Honestly, should've expected no less from Loki. ]

You really would come in handy in a lot of away missions, not gonna lie. [ Even if only for that neat trick where he can stuff a bunch of things into his backpack. Jim's stomach growls at the mere sight of food, relieved he won't have to do any actual fishing. ] Want help preparing that? I'm almost done with the tent.

Hah, it's like you didn't expect me to have all sorts of tricks up my, er, rucksack.

[ Rooting deeper in the bag, half his body disappears into it before Loki draws out a metal stand upon which to position the pan over the fire. A tupperware container is emptied on top to heat up and he waves Jim over. ]

You can dig into one of the other boxes, if you like, no need to wait. I thought something hot might be nice too.

[ Who can say no to cold take-out? Not Loki, since he takes up his own offer and munches on a chicken-ball. ]

What can I say? Sometimes I forget all about your... godly awesomeness.

[ Strange words for Jim to say, but somehow they seem fitting for Loki. Although he is teasing, so take what you will from that.

Also that part where he vanishes into the actual bag has him doing a double-take, but he doesn't say anything to it. Making his way over to the campfire, he takes a seat next to Loki, leaning in and helping himself to one of those chicken balls too. ]

Mm. Good. You cooked all this yourself?

[ Godly awesomeness. If that isn't one way to make Loki preen ... ]

Um, no. [ He's sure he could do better than their meal tonight, inspired to try harder in the future with the way Jim's arm rests by his. Loki can't say he doesn't miss the casual intimacy of Verity's friendship, greedy for any parody of it. ] I was in a rush and the restaurant was highly recced online.

You want me to cook you a meal sometime? Pick your poison.

[ Jim has a way with words. Sometimes he's not even trying— sometimes he's just teasing and it still works out. ]

With good cause. These are great.

[ Also he may be biased since it's not replicator food. He never really minded that much, admittedly, but now he has the luxury of enjoying actual cooked meals every day, he has to admit there's something different to the taste. ]

Well, I do remember you promising to have me over for dinner sometime. I don't think this counts.

I'm half-convinced you're going to rack up dinner invites for a week, then spend seven days like a king on my couch.

[ Not something he would even mind much, really. If only he had moved out by now but, alas, nowhere has piqued his interest away from the apartment ... and maybe he likes the company being a constant thing, always having someone to talk to. ]

Did you ever get a ship commissioned, by the way? There are curious things on the planet that we could bring back to the moon.

[ He chuckles a little at that. ] I don't think Bones would like me being away for that long.

[ And honestly, Jim wouldn't want to either. The offer is nice, though. Or at least the offer for dinner anytime. Jim will make sure to invite Loki over every so often, himself. ]

Not yet. Someone suggested I ask your friend Stark about it, actually. Said he might be able to help getting a ship or a shuttle together.

I don't care what Bones likes. [ With an insouciant wink.

He does toss a noodle at Jim's arm a moment later, proving he isn't that lofty-headed at all. ]

You can't involve Stark without taking me along for the ride too, he'll steal you off me.

Well, I do. [ A nonchalant shrug.

Also why are you throwing food at him, that's gross. ]

He's not stealing me off of anyone. Besides, don't you two know how to share? [ Oh wait, he thinks he can guess the answer to that one. ] I was told he's pretty much a tech genius. Isn't that true?

Only in the tech field, yes.

[ Tens spoons of salt to go with that noodle. ]

You're sounding a bit jealous there, just so you know.

[ Jim would know, because he's a genius and he's heard it often enough. ]

Gods don't get jelly, it's physically impossible.

[ Which is a steaming pile of unicorn shit but he says it straight-faced and chins a hand at Jim, smiling benignly to see if he can't help but call him out. It's fun provoking him, like tugging on a puppy's tail. ]

[ That just gets a snort out of Jim, and he shakes his head as it dissolves into a laugh. He swats a hand at Loki's arm. ]

Yeah, sure. If it helps you sleep at night.

[ You're so full of shit, Loki. ]

Odin knows your snoring won't.

[ Someone here is five-years-old, nudging Jim back. ]

[ Jim would complain if he didn't enjoy the stupid immature teasing this much. But he does. ]

Hey! I don't snore. I'm a quiet sleeper. At worst I'll try to cling. [ Not cuddle. Don't call it that. ]

Oh, no! How terrible, a man worth three blankets.

[ PINCHING. JIM'S SIDE. ]

[ THAT'S NOT VERY MATURE. But also Jim is yelping and laughing at the pinch, which he returns with fierce intensity. ]

Stop that! And I wouldn't say three. Wouldn't do away with your sleeping bag just because I'm there, if I were you.

[ A wheedling whine complains about the pinching as he scoots away a little, aiming a light kick at Jim's shoe. ]

I'd rather suffocate with the zipper pulled all the way closed than chance seeing your ugly James Dean chin at night!

[ Jim huffs, almost as if he's utterly offended by that insinuation. How dare you, sir. ]

Excuse you? James Dean wishes he'd had a jawline like mine. [ He tips his head up and cups his own jaw and chin, stroking it pointedly. ] Besides, if we're talking about ugly ass chins...

[ He gives Loki's a meaningful look, brow raised and head tilted just so. ]

[ The most wounded exclamation in history; ]

I am a vision!

[ Slap-fight, it's happening; gently for Loki, who doesn't want to actually hurt Jim. But is totally aiming for his cheeks. ]

[ Jim yelps in a rather undignified way at that. Leaning back, he instantly reaches out and tries to catch Loki's wrists so he can stop that ridiculous slap fight. Is this seriously what Norse Gods are like, for crying out loud. ]

A vision from a nightmare, at best!

[ He lets his wrists be caught, resorting to kicking ineffectually at Jim's ankles. ]

What sort of captain are you, beating up your crew like this! I demand you walk all the planks!

Beating up? You're the one trying to hit me! Hold your tongue, Ensign, or I'll be the one throwing you overboard.
