He shrugs. "You're different like that, then. I see it a lot - don't think I don't! - people walking around even now, looking down at these things. I can hardly blame them. It's just the way things are now, but it seems strange to me."

Even with his vision such that it is, he can tell when a head is bowed, when a hand is held up, when something is in it. Without seeing exactly what they have, he knows exactly what it is they're doing. There are no voices coming from these devices at that time. He supposes they don't want others to hear their conversations and eavesdrop. Words on a tiny screen are easier to hide anyway. But he's a man of the old ages adjusting to a newer time. He's quite handy with his phone now, to an extent, but it will always be an oddity to him.
