( open ) get on board for perimeter guard shenanigans
who: Perimeter Guard members & visitors
what: a catch-all for routine Perimeter Guard stuff and shenanigans
when: throughout September
where: Perimeter Guard, beyond the wall, etc.
warnings: put any warnings in comment headers if need be!
[ This is a mingle log, so everyone feel free to write up your own starters, or just vaguely list out things your character might be up to, so other people know how they'd encounter them and where/how to engage. Some ideas for Perimeter Guard stuff:
• studying maps and working on map expansion;
• compiling wild animal data, reading/writing reports, other boring paperwork stuff;
• checking weaponry and devices, making repairs, etc.;
• going beyond the wall for a bit of surveying and exploration;
• checking out the shuttle currently being repaired (only Poe and Jim would actually be able to take it out for a test flight of any kind, but feel free to poke either of us if you'd like to thread that out!).
Go forth and have fun! ]

[ The ship's appearance still needs a lot of work, but Jim's working on it from the inside out. The engines and various controls first, then the chassis and the bodywork. ]
Warp technology. Haven't seen any sign of that existing in this universe, sadly, or at least this corner of it. Even if I were to get my hands on a warp drive, I'm not even sure it would be compatible with this shuttle.

[ Granted, Jon doesn't know how. Kathy's ship used that kind of energy. And he can't really say it ended well for any of them, but it worked? ]

[ Particularly while there are people on board. Either way, he's not planning on going too far for now, so it's not like he needs that much of a boost. ]
no subject
Yeah, that's probably for the best.

[ One never knows, and there might just be some piece of technology in the abandoned city that could help with that. Jim's always open to new ideas. ]
Anyway, I was hoping to fix some of the navigation system's hardware today. The circuitry boards seemed intact, save for one fuse or another, it's the wires that seem to be more damaged. Old and worn, for the most part. You just take the old one and replace it with a new one. It's not terribly exciting, but two people should get the job done faster than one. [ He hands Jon a pair of gloves, getting another for himself. ] I depleted the energy core, but you should use a pair of gloves anyway.

How fast do you need me to be?
no subject
We're in no rush. And, you know, if you're too fast I might end up with nothing to do, myself. Just... take your time. [ He shrugs, kneeling in front of one of the panels. ] You mind if I put on some music?
no subject
Is it old people music?
no subject
Well, it is pretty old music to me, but it's the sort I like. [ He gestures towards Jon. ] You take your pick. Give me a band, and we'll see if I have anything by them.
no subject
What do you mean, to you?

I like that old classical music best, so I'm not the best person to be telling you all about 23rd century music.
no subject
Can't be worse than my dad's. He listens to country.
[ But he grins. ]
You pick! I wanna hear what sounds old in the future.
no subject
I'll take your word on it that that's bad.
[ He really has no clue what 'country' is, but maybe it's just some of that weird old people music Jon mentioned before. Given the chance to pick whatever he likes, he reaches for the nearest working comm panel, tapping on the screen a few times before his first pick fills the inside of the shuttle. ]

This is pretty good. But really long?
no subject
no subject
[ Jon starts his work as well. ] Usually pop stuff, but dad says it never lasts.
no subject
Pop songs are definitely catchy, [ He glances at Jon as he tugs some frayed wires out of the panel, grabbing new ones as replacements. ] But they were mostly fads, so they changed often, and a lot. You have a few names that live on regardless, though, like... I don't know. Lady Gaga or Madonna. Oh, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Prince... so on.
no subject
[ He listens to whatever is new, but he doesn't really have friends to talk music or interests with. ]
But it's interesting that you guys listen to all the old stuff in the future. I thought you'd be busy with like. Aliens and planets.
no subject
[ Ancient, more like, considering the time he comes from. ]
Most people wouldn't even recognize those names. They just label it all 'classical music' and move on.

[ A pause. ]
How long we live, anything about our history . . . I mean, it's kind of all gone, even if we have Kelex.
no subject
And what's Kelex?
