[She spares a moment for the mech because what the actual fuck-- but the call-out drags her back to the reality of the moment and she nods grimly. She shoves her Beretta back into her waistband and drops her pack on the ground. Plan. She needs a plan.
The girl gets the monster's attention, and Ellie scrambles around behind it without really bothering to be stealthy about it. Apparently a large, glowing hunk of metal is distraction enough. The creature lunges at the mech, and Ellie doesn't pay attention to what happens after (presumably, it can survive a few hits) she just grabs the low branch of a tree and hauls herself up.
She unslings her rifle from her shoulder and from the relative safety of the tree she takes aim at the creature.
It's hard, while the two are grappling around like some fucking wrestling match, to get off a clean shot but after a few seconds she sees her opportunity and she squeezes the trigger on an exhale. The bullet hits the creature just above the front shoulder-blade. Injured, but not fatal. Shit.]
Fuck! Get out of there, it's going to rip you apart!
