Much like Bones expected, Jim didn't take the teasing to heart. Rather the opposite, actually, and he snorted before laughing loudly at that. He reached over with his free hand, shoving light and playfully at Bones's face. "Jerk. And technically you haven't gotten lucky yet," he pointed out, raising his eyebrows and grinning crookedly as he waved a finger at Bones. A piece of wordplay he knew Bones would pick up on.

He wouldn't expect Bones to be anything other than himself, even now. Especially now. Wherever they ended up going from here, and whatever they ended up doing, Jim wouldn't want them to get along any differently, and he both hoped and expected Bones to be his usual self around him. Well, except now he could just kiss the doctor into silence when he started grousing and ranting about all the things that could potentially kill them. Always nice to have a new trick up his sleeve.

The thought had him smiling vaguely to himself, his gaze flickering up to Bones when he spoke again. The statement was a little out of the blue, but not particularly shocking, and his smile turned softer and warmer as he drifted closer to Bones. "Likewise, doc," he said as he leaned in and planted a kiss to Bones's cheek, lingering only for as long as he could, considering they were both walking down the street. Honestly, he didn't even know nor want to think about where he'd be right now if not for Bones. Dead, most likely. Or definitely, come to think of it. The thought had him slowing down a little, both hands catching Bones's. "I'd be dead if not for you. So— thank you. A little belatedly, I think."

He figured he never really needed to say it, that Bones would just know how grateful he was. But sometimes people still needed to hear these things, even when they knew them, so.

His eyes moved back to the buildings, catching a sign some good distance down the street. The discreetly lit letters red 'HOTEL', and he pointed at it, ignoring the way his stomach flipped a little nervously. "There. Doesn't look so bad, does it?"
