His head tilted at that response, not looking even remotely reassured. "That's the thing... When we were young it was the one truth we lived by. Something's changed if he doesn't feel that way anymore." Ed doesn't realize that he does, he's put more on Al's desire to go home than Alphonse intended but Edward was used to being left behind so maybe his perception was the one that was off. The part that Ed found most naive was that Al intended to go home, to a world that was no longer their home, and to take Edward with him. Even though they weren't even from the same time.

Ed laughed at that as they headed toward the communal building. "It's something we learned to laugh at later, as kids we really thought we were going to die out there."
