Given any other option, he might have stayed out of the fight and let the unwilling citizens of this city take care of business themselves, but even in the short time that he had been made to live within the walls himself, he had come to realize that, whether or not he wanted it, he needed them if he ever wanted to return home.

That and, if he was completely honest with himself, some of them had given him a giggle or two while he browsed the network posts.

The only drawback to his commitment here meant breaking his cover sooner - far sooner - than he wanted. While he was still a little wary of that, a second realization had occurred to him somewhere along the way that took the bite off of that caution. These people seemed to be from different worlds, few of them from the same as another. What their societies were like, what those of their afterlives were like, was something he was ultimately unfamiliar with, but many of them seemed like normal humans or otherwise beings who simply wouldn't be bothered with him or his affairs.

So he threw a bit of his concern to the wind and threw himself into the defense. The suit they had him wear didn't hinder him so much, though the crinkling of the material made him pause now and then to listen closely. Scent wouldn't help him here. Everything smelled like the forest, and his eyes had been permanently hampered decades before, but this was fun. Not quite a game, but fun.

The first creature they came across didn't stand a chance. About the size of a large elk and nastier in ways he wouldn't try to examine, it came at them with reckless abandon, screaming and howling something awful. Undertaker moved quickly, rushing at it as a distraction. It took the bait and closed in on him with teeth easily as long as his hand, looking to tear something of him off, but he darted to one side and leapt back, swinging the business end of his scythe up to meet its throat.

The creature gave a gurgling roar in pain, then staggered back, but Undertaker wasn't finished. He moved in with a second swing at its chest and watched as its insides became its outsides. The beast collapsed, feet flailing as it choked on its own fluids, then quieted and calmed to a twitch and hissed one last time and was done.

Undertaker stood for a moment more, listening intently, then moved through the brush back to guard the deployment team, using the suit to try and wipe a little of the dark blood from his blade. Idly he wondered if he could have viewed the monster's life, if they had had time for him to test his curiosity. He never had tried it on an animal, but when this was over, he thought he might like to try it.
