[ open ] patrol with robin( If you've paid any attention to the rooftops, tall trees, or even various places in the abandoned city, you've surely caught a shadow out of the corner of your eye. You've probably had a feeling of being watched or like someone is following you. Some of you might have even caught sight of a black and gold cape. If you decide to follow him, it won't be an easy task.
Robin is fast and light on his feet - springing and flipping from one place to another before you can get a good look at him. You might find him perched somewhere watching every now and again, and if you're in trouble for any reason, he isn't far. Regardless, he isn't doing any harm for now. He's watching, mostly.
If you decide to pursue him, tread with caution. If he feels threatened or you follow too closely, you're likely to get a kick to the face or tackled to the ground. )
[ open ] art inspiration( Up by the river, Damian can be found fairly often in the same place. He's folded neatly on top of a rock overlooking the waterfall.
He sits quietly, legs folded neatly under him and a sketch book spread across his lap. There are a pair earbuds stuck in his ears, the wire leading down to a small music player tucked into the pocket of a hoodie that is a bit too large for him. He's mostly still besides the movement of his arms, the occasional shift of his head as he draws. Every so often, he'll look up at the sound of something unusual or pause at the sight of someone approaching.
If you can get close enough (good luck), you'll notice that he's drawing a dog that looks to be a great dane mix. He's careful and precise in the strokes of his pencil, beginning to shade the animal's ears. )
[ for jon ] exploring the abandoned city( Of all the places Damian wanted to explore, the Abandoned City had been the first stop on his list. They'd come through the area a couple of times now, but this was their first time at the old amusement park.
Pushing down his hood, Damian turned to glance over his shoulder at Jon, arching a brow behind his domino. ) You aren't scared, are you? ( He questioned carefully, turning slightly to watch Jon. The younger boy was a fair distance behind him, and with the darkness that blanketed the park, casting wicked shadows around them, a part of him was convinced Jon might have preferred to come at a later time. )
[ for ivar ] viking vs assassin( As discussed, Damian had woken up early and headed up to the clearing near the waterfall. It was still dark by the time he'd gotten ready and set out, and he was certain he would arrive well before they'd agreed upon.
When he reached the clearing, he took his time stretching out. He closed his eyes, breathed deep, and let his body fall into the familiar pattern of what he'd to loosen up his limbs. Every movement was quiet and controlled, steadily warming his muscles up to a point where he was ready to engage in whatever challenge Ivar might pose. Whenever the other boy arrived, he'd find Damian in a series of moves - leaping or flipping between larger rocks or balancing on his hands. )
[ for dick ] robin vs robin( Discovering the Richard Grayson of this world was someone younger than the one he'd originally met had been a jarring revelation that left him feeling on edge and... somehow detached from the world. In the three years he'd spent away from his mother and under the Robin mantle, Richard had been the one to help him overcome so many hurdles that knowing the bond they formed was gone made a part of him wonder if he'd backtrack in some way. Without his father or now Richard to remind him of how far he'd come from the future Demon's Head to Robin, a part of him wasn't sure he'd be able to stop that urge that told him violence was a perfectly acceptable solution. That going that extra inch between subduing and killing would become too easy.
Sparring with Richard felt like it would be a good outlet for those worries or the usual lingering urges that he was sure would never leave him. Stretching his arms over his head, he narrowed his eyes carefully at the older man. ) Don't hold back. ( He warned as he lowered his arms in favor of rolling one shoulder back and then the other. ) I'll know. ( He added, stepping forward across the mats and towards Richard. )
[ for jason ] crowbar party( After their... unusually affectionate reunion, Damian had made a point to keep a fair distance away from Jason. They had never been close to begin with, and truthfully, most of the times they were in each other's company tended to end in some bickering. Something a bit of violence. Still, he'd kept an eye on him from a distance. He was certain Jason was more than aware of that, but a part of him wanted to prove to Jason that despite his moment of weakness following his arrival and their subtle awareness of one another, he was still a better Robin than he'd ever been.
Jason had stepped out of the room for, perhaps, a moment or two. When he returned, he would find Damian standing at the far end of the room. Under his arm, there was a familiar red helmet neatly tucked. He arched a brow at Jason, silently challenging him. Do you want it back? The look said. )
[ for ciel ] technology 101( Despite having shown Ciel how to make a cup of tea on his own, Damian had lured the other boy out to a tea shop a few days later. They were sitting side by side, a tablet settled neatly on the table and straddled by a cup of steaming tea on either side. )
Turn it on. ( He ordered simply, reaching to pull his own saucer and cup towards him. He picked it up quietly, held it with a natural ease in one hand as he hooked a finger through the handle of the other. Lifting it to his lips, he blew softly on the dark liquid, waiting for Ciel to do as he'd shown him earlier. )

I live right next to Deadman's Swamp. This is nothing.

Which was why the thump of another heartbeat aside from his own, the nearly imperceptible swish of a cape set off his senses. He raised his head, catching a familiar scent on the breeze.
Right. The little caped avenger from the exploration.
Peter's stealthy, but if Damian's deliberately following him, well. No matter how light his step, he's bound to notice Peter slipping up to him. ]

But Damian is himself. A child who needs more attention than Dick's been giving him. Who deserves better care than that whatever that hack of a case worker has to offer. He deserves a friend who understands him. Who cares enough to try to understand. Dick knows no better way to get there than to hit the mats, one-on-on. ]
No rules, no takebacks. [ Though his grin is all mischief; broad and unguarded. This is about fun, as much as it's work. ] You're calling the shots, boy wonder.
[ He has a lot to worry about with Damian, but all of it is external, when it comes down to it. All things tied to other people. There's an ease to actually being in the room with Damian, a sense he has about him that he can't help but be drawn in by. He likes this kid. ]

It was hard not to look just a bit uncomfortable with the situation but he reached out and picked the tablet up, looking it over a moment before doing as he was told and turning it on.]
Probably the easiest part,
no subject
It's about time for a break anyway as his night has been rather uneventful up to this point.
He makes sure not to get too close when he realizes the individual in question is Damian of all people since he isn't sure how the boy would react to being startled by someone from behind; though he wouldn't be surprised to find out his presence is already known despite the son of Batman never taking his eyes off the city below. ]
How's it looking down there?

A few texts aside, he didn't approach Damian, and pretended not to notice he was being watched. Though after leaving a few minutes to go buy a drink, the last thing he expected walking back in was Damian in his living space. Much less with his helmet.]
Are you fucking kidding me.... [ He couldn't help the face palm.]
no subject
He didn't say anything when he arrived, instead choosing to watch Damian's moves with the intense gaze he used when he was analyzing someone. The boy was fast and had skill, that was clear enough. But agility wasn't everything. He'd need power to back to up. Ivar was confident that this was going to be a good match. Damian would provide an interesting challenge.]
You ready? [He asked, the words rolling off in his Norwegian accent.]
no subject
This way. ( He ordered once Jon was within arm's reach, starting forward and towards what looked to be some sort of information booth.
Once he was close enough, he reached out to brush a bit of dirt off the side to study the faded colors and words on the logo. ) Have you ever been to an amusement park before?
no subject
It was why that night in particular, he took a careful interest in the man. He kept a fair distance away, enough to keep the man in his sights and make observations as needed.
It hadn't taken long for Damian to notice the subtle shift in the pattern they'd fallen into. He recognized the subtle signs as someone who knew they were being followed. Taking a rather large leap to carry him to a ledge he could properly perch on, Damian crouched low and balanced his forearms on his legs. To anyone else, he might have looked like a small statue in the darkness. )
It's late for a walk.

For a few seconds, those memories lingered just behind his eyes, and it took everything he had not to let them pull him into his own thoughts and shut Richard out entirely. Instead, he closed his eyes and rolled his head to loosen up his neck. )
Like I said. Don't hold back.
( Without another word, Damian sank down into a crouch before he sprang - sending him flipping a few paces back and away from Richard despite the steps he'd taken to close the distance between them a moment ago. He landed quietly, light on his feet, and there was barely a second before he was moving again. This time, he jumped to one side, barely letting his foot touch the soft, padded edge of a piece of equipment to spring towards Richard. If he made contact, the intent was to get a hold on Richard, take him to the ground and try to minimize any struggle. )

[ He holds his hands out to demonstrate how much his father had been carrying. ]
But we don't have anything like this in Hamilton. I don't think Metropolis does either.

Setting his saucer and cup down, he pushed them quietly out of the way once Ciel finally managed to turn the device on. He nodded, satisfied. )
Send me a message on it.

He'd spotted Wally ever now and again since he'd been here, just a flash of color every now and again. Tonight, though, he heard him before he saw him.
His heard turned slightly at the sound of someone moving behind him - a faint hint of movement someone else might have missed. He waited to see if they moved any further, decided against calling their attention to his own awareness. But then he heard the other speak and he felt any tension there might have been in his body relax quickly. )
Tt. Boring. Just like every night.
no subject
I'll hold onto this for a while.
( He decided, turning swiftly and heading towards a nearby window. He wasted no time getting it open, and Jason had a very small gap of time to try and stop Damian before he was climbing out of it. )
no subject
I'm always ready. ( He replied smoothly, arching a brow at the other. ) Are you?
no subject
So you've never been to one?
( Turning his attention back to the information booth, he moved towards the door to pull on the handle. The door didn't move under his initial pull, and he gave it another, harder one. The same response.
Brows creasing, he wrapped both hands around the handle to give it a rough pull with no luck. )
Open this.

[ Jon doesn't feel like he's missed out there. He knew there were plenty of reasons why his father won't let Jon go to a county fair on his own. The desire to beat the rigged games, plus all the sounds and smells would be too much for someone still trying to control their powers.
He watches Damian struggle with the door, but for one, doesn't say anything until Damian asks for his help. With ease, he pulls on the handle and opens the door. ]
We're going in there? Why?
no subject
( He shrugged, stepping aside as Jon reached to pull on the handle and open the door. When they'd first met, the ease he managed the task would have bothered him. Now, he was as used to it as he was going to get.
Brushing past him, he stepped into the information booth, easily waving away a spiderweb in their path. )
Haven't you ever been exploring? ( The booth was small, but it had more than enough space for the two of them to move around. Damian turned his attention on container near the window at the front, sifting through the stack of fliers and maps inside of it. )
no subject
[ Some days, he can risk it but there's always a good chance Superman will notice and get mad. The rules are important. Jon gives everything a cursory glance. His senses will let him know if there's something or someone nearby. ]
Doesn't your dad do that too?
no subject
Dick pivots when he does, light on his feet. Tries not to make it obvious how closely he's watching. Reading him. He needs to grasp more than the outlines of his style if he's going to be able to protect him in the field. He needs to know the why behind how he fights. ]
You trust me or not? [ It's halfway a challenge, but he finds himself still smiling. He grabs for Damian's outstretched foot, intending to shift that forward momentum down towards the mat. ]
no subject
Peter raised his hand in a lazy greeting, smiling vaguely at Damian. The game wasn't up&dmash; it was just starting, and the fertile ground mission hadn't lent itself to much idle chitchat (although it'd been fascinating all the same), but Peter wasn't half bad at grasping people's personalities.
A little refinement and further insight never hurt, however. He wasn't here to make enemies, but allies. ]
I enjoy the night air. It helps me think. [ A pause. ] And I could say the same to you. Awfully late to be out, isn't it?
no subject
Most places are boring compared to Gotham. [ A sigh escapes his lips. ] And this place is boring compared to those places so far.
[ Though things do have a tendency to get a little less boring outside the walls. ]
Besides the boredom, have things been going okay? I know it's taken me some time to adjust.
[ He doesn't really expect Damian to share if something was actually bothering him. Still, Damian is a thirteen year-old stuck in some other universe and dealing with things that would leave Wally himself a bit unsettled. He had to at least ask the question. ]
no subject
You little son of a bitch! Not this time!
[ He tried to beat Damian to the window, but the kid had a head start, but Jason had long legs and fury behind them. He reached out in hopes of catching the youngest before he could get through.]
no subject
[Ivar smirks, the light gleaming eagerly in his eyes. He's clearly looking forward to this.]
Ready enough to know I can take on you.
[One of Ivar's greatest disadvantages is his lack of quick mobility. Being unable to move quickly means unless he's throwing a weapon or stabbing someone, he's limited on how close he can get to an opponent to attack them. If he's too slow, they've usually already moved by the time he can get to them. For this reason, he waits for Damian to make the first move.]

( And yeah, he gets in trouble for it sometimes. But he doesn't particularly care. That never stops him.
He continued sifting through the stack before pulling out one of the old fliers that seems to mostly be in tact, with colors that are noticeably distinguishable from one another and the text readable. )
Here. ( He opened the flier, handing one end of the large, unfolding paper to be sure they could both get a proper look at it. ) We have plenty to explore.
483589 years later
He tilted his head, rocking back once where he was perched. )
It's quieter at night. ( Damian offered in response to both Peter's explanation and the question turned at him. ) And I'm usually out much later than this back home.
( Either by himself or with Nightwing or Batman. Patrols were often more eventful in the late night hours or very early morning. That wasn't something Damian bothered to share, though. Instead, he continued with ) Have you seen anything interesting?
no subject
( There was a lightness to his words, not quite a joke or teasing, but enough to say that he didn't not trust Richard.
He caught sight of that continued smile, and when Dick grabbed his foot, Damian let the man shift him and his weight down towards the mat. He shifted as his body was brought downward, and he drew his other leg up towards his chest before sending it outward, heel aimed towards Richard's chest as if intending to mostly catch him off guard enough to free his foot or drive him back enough to make him let go naturally. Whichever worked if he could land the blow. )

He watched Ciel for a moment, waiting to see if he needed any help with the task. When he finally sent a message and his own device dinged with the receipt, he lifted it to glance at the screen. )
...Tt. ( He scoffed at the message that stared back at him, and without thinking, reached out to shove Ciel with the intention of knocking him out of the booth. )
no subject
Don't be so sure.
( He waited for a few seconds, giving Ivar just the smallest bit of time to properly prepare himself. If he didn't seem to be ready, he was willing to wait. But when Ivar made no move himself, he did.
His swords were back in his home world, but Damian still had weapons here with him. Instead of drawing them outright, he shifted one foot back before he sped forward - all fluid, silent grace to close the distance between them. He was just out of Ivar's arm's reach when he sprang, intending to flip over Ivar and toss a pair of Robinarangs aimed for his hands. )

By the time Jason's hand reached out for him, Damian was already out of the window. He didn't waste any time dropping from the window ledge down to the one below it and then yet another one as soon as he was able to get a handhold. )
Yes, this time.
( Damian called up at the former Robin, continuing his drop until he was low enough to drop fully to the ground without injuring himself. As soon as he was, he let go, dropped to his feet and landed quietly on his feet. He spared Jason one quick, satisfied look before he was sprinting away. The look he'd given the other clearly said catch me if you can. )
no subject
It isn't so bad, outside the walls. ( He noted as if reading Wally's thoughts. He'd gone on a mission with a few people before, and he was much more fulfilling than anything he'd done inside the walls.
He shifted to sit on the ledge comfortably before patting the spot beside him expectantly. It was more an order than a request, something he tried to convey by looking up at Wally expectantly. )
They're fine. Richard and Jon are here. ( Among others, he was sure Wally knew. But those were the ones that were important to Damian. )
no subject
Is there something we're looking for?
no subject
He wasn't going to chase after Damian. Instead he moved to his trunk to make sure nothing else was gone.]
no subject
You did say to send 'a message.' [He tries to make it sound as innocent as he can, and sometimes he can pull it off. He'd certainly fooled Doll, but right now, he can't help the grin plastered to his face.]
You'll have to be more clear in the future.
no subject
His first instinctive reaction is to jerk his hands out of the way of the 'rangs. They're his biggest tools, and if they get incapacitated or damaged, he's all but helpless. In one fluid motion, he's pulled the axe strapped to his back out, batting them away with the widest part of the blade.
Then it's his turn to make a move. He brings out one of his blades, a short knife meant to be thrown rather than wielded close. He aims for Damian's feet, seeking to herd the young superhero closer to him.]
no subject
Tt. Haven't you ever been exploring? ( He sighed, telling himself not to put too much faith in a positive answer from the other boy. He probably hadn't. What was there to really even explore out on a farm, anyway? ) The point of exploring is to explore, Jon. You see what you can find, learn about your surroundings.
no subject
[ To demonstrate, Jon runs a finger along the poster, scrunching up his nose. He rubs his fingers together before brushing it off on his clothes. ]
Besides, you bring me along to be like. The powers guy. I don't know anything about detecting things.
no subject
Satisfied, he continued to his own hiding place to stash Jason's helmet. )
no subject
( Damian rolled his eyes at the way Jon scrunched up his nose and rubbed the dust off on his clothing. If he was worried about a little dust, he'd never make it in a real fight, he mused. )
That's not the only reason I bring you. ( The powers helped. The fact that he provided some familiar company in an unfamiliar place was a bonus, too. But there was more to it than that. )
no subject
Yeah. I know.
[ Belatedly, he scans the room with his x-ray vision. ]
I thought Riverview was kind of new. Could a place like this really exist and be this old? Or did it come through the portal?
[ See, Jon can be smart too. ]
