carnivale

In the days leading up to July 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Carnivale. This holiday is in celebration of music, and the onset of summer and warmer weather. The celebrations are marked by street parties, an extensive program of live musical performances, with a large parade (and paid holiday!) capping it off on July 8th.

After a couple of months of low-key or even solemn celebrations, it's time for Riverview Quarantine to throw a good, old-fashioned party. Carnivale is a city-wide festival that pretty much everyone gets into, and many residents take the entire week off so they can enjoy all the festivities. With events ranging from impromptu street parties, free live musical performances, food stands, themed club nights, adult lounges with kink shows, and topped off with a massive party parade, the holiday has a lot to offer for anyone who likes to sing, dance, and show some skin!

i. street parties and food

One of the staples of the Carnivale festival is the spontaneous street parties and food trucks and carts. It's not unusual during the holiday to turn a corner and run into a group of people dressed in bright colors and sequins having an impromptu party with a few drinks, and then be invited to join right in! Carnivale is a celebration of music as well as summer, so most shops and stalls will be blasting danceable music into the streets to facilitate these little street parties - it's considered a sign of good luck for the owner of a business if an impromptu Carnivale celebration starts up in front of their door.

Considering the proliferation of street parties and people out and about to celebrate the warmer weather, local business owners also take to the streets. Food carts, stands, and trucks pop up on almost every street corner offering a wide variety of food from savory treats to sweet desserts. Many of the carts are offering one free item to anyone dressed up for Carnivale - anything shimmery, shiny, or brightly colored will do!

ii. live musical performances

One of the major roads in the city center has been completely roped off for the entire week, and all along this street, various temporary stages have been set up, each with a nice hefty sound system. Volunteers hand out printed flyers, and digital boards are set up here and there with schedules of various performances that are all free to attend, ranging from well-known popular music artists to new up-and-comers or independent artists who are looking to make a name for themselves. This event is very widely advertised around the city, and is accepting entries until the very last minute.

At couple of the acts might be familiar faces to some of the residents.

Eichi Tenshouin has signed up himself and his friend Tsumugi Aoba into the music festival as a first-time appearing idol unit called "Higanbana." Dressed in all white with splashes of color (blue, largely, with only their headsets being a red spider lily), they carry a very commanding and angelic image together. They'll have a routine that emphasizes their great harmony with each other, taking turns doing solo lines and joining together to show off each of their talents. Singing and dancing, they interact heavily with the audience and will encourage a lot of involvement with speaking between songs and gestures, winks, and so on. Basically, they intend to make this Riverview's very first prominent "idol performance".

For his performance, Otabek Altin will start with rock remixes of a few popular pop songs. He wants to make sure that it starts off with recognizable pieces for some people, and he certainly thinks it is something that could get people excited even if they don't know it. Then, it shifts into a few original songs. They are upbeat, rock songs that he put together with the intention to make people dance and move, since he is a DJ. He'll end his set with a slower piece he put together that is also an original. Through the entire performance, he's focused and quiet, though he may occasionally try and excite the crowd with a few words.

Any other player-characters who are musically inclined are more than welcome to assume their character was fit in for a performance, and can post up a top-level with a rundown of their performance to get bonus Activity Points for posting a mingle!

iii. carnivale parade

The other main attraction of Carnivale week comes on July 8th, which is a paid holiday for everyone in the city. The Carnivale Parade will be starting out by City Hall and winding through downtown in a lazy pattern so everyone in the city has a chance to see it. There will be all sorts of floats, dancers, marching bands, with all sorts of clubs, businesses, and other organizations represented. The theme is theatrical, big and showy, bright and colorful, sparkly and shiny, with loud music and lots of glitz and glamour. Observers can expect great music, excellent dancing and marching shows, neat vehicles provided by classic car clubs, the fire, police, and Perimeter Guard. They can also expect a lot of party favors, whether it's a sparkly plastic beaded necklace, a fan to take the edge off the heat, candy, popsicles, a temporary tattoo, or any number of other little treats or toys to be tossed into the crowd - some of them fit for kids and teens, others of a more 'adult' nature handed out a bit more discreetly to anyone who looks the part.

And make sure you wear your waterproof mascara - Carnivale floats have a tendency of spraying or spritzing water, both in an unspoken competition to see who can make the biggest water-refraction rainbow in the air, and to keep observers cool in the new summer heat.

iv. adult: lounges and kink exhibition

Thanks to the Carnivale tradition of showing as much skin as possible, some event organizers' minds have turned to topics of a more adult nature. In the evenings, residents may see clubs doing "lounge nights"; these adults-only events have bouncers IDing everyone at the door to ensure they're 18+. The themes may vary, from very specific niche themes like 'golden age superheroes' to broad themes like 'rainbows,' and each event is clearly marked as what it is - all-nude or clothing-optional, and can host events ranging from amateur to professional exotic dancing, food served off of nude bodies, anonymous masked hookups, or just provide a comfortable space where casual sex is encouraged with whoever happens to be around. Various legal substances can be found at these lounges, but nothing that would cause violation of consent, and every substance would be clearly labeled and have warnings to ensure that no one partakes unless they choose to. Please be sure to warn in the subject line for sexual content or drug use (since some mild party drugs are legal in Riverview).

For the weekend from July 7th-9th, there will be a kink exhibition in one of the large exhibition centers downtown, limited to characters 18+. The exhibition is a sexy adult informational convention featuring various kinks and fetishes. Whether you're into leather, latex, lace, or anything else, you'll be able to find the clothes, toys, guides, books, erotica, fiction, and a wide variety of other interesting stuff to explore. While the atmosphere is sex-positive and there are private and public (for the voyeurs and exhibitionists in the room) venues for having sex, it's definitely focused on exploration and information about different stuff to try.

Okay. (She visibly relaxes.)

Sorry, I... I've been on edge lately.

[ Gladio staggers forward, but his hands are still on the table so they are both saved from an awkward tumble. Eichi will not be crushed by a falling mountain of a man this day. ]

You're gonna be feeling it all week, but I've got a solution.

[ Gladio will just pick him up just as he is, gathers up his legs by hooking one arm under his knees and then pulling him against his body. And then carefully turns and walks in a... relatively straight-ish line for his bedroom. He tries not to, but manages to knock over a book and smack his own elbow against an open door that wasn't anywhere near his target before he reaches his destination. Amazing he didn't knock the idol out somewhere along the way.

When he finally falls into bed, he breathes out and looks at Eichi. ]

...That went a lot more smoothly in my head. Maybe this is a bad idea.

[ Said while he's fumbling at his belt buckle that is suddenly become Hard Mode. Fuck a dude with a vibrator? Nailed it. Undress with some dignity? Suddenly he's faced with a challenge greater than he is. ]

Party like this probably isn't helping.

[ Even if they're on their way out now... ]

This to do with the complicated?

[ Mistakes are bound to happen; with energy so high, both good and bad, it's no surprise that people would get lost in it and grow rowdier than usual.

This is one such case. In a moment of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, a rather inebriated group begin causing a ruckus close by during the festivities; whatever sparked it, Yuuto couldn't say, but now that he's in the habit of actively avoiding trouble (well, as a civvy, anyway) his first instinct is to get out quick no matter the issue. Unfortunately, he soon enough collides with another man, who ends up dropping his cup of beer on to the streetway.

Bad enough that he's invaded the guy's personal space, now he wants payment back for the lost beverage, too. ]

Look, it was a mistake, but I'm really in a hurry—

[ Not having it. In an attempt to be intimidating, the man shoves Yuuto back. ]

[ It's late when Yuuto returns to the tenth floor, but not so late that someone isn't still awake in the common area. When he first sees the lights are on, he's ready to greet the usual who he's come to known as roommates within the past month.

Yet it's no one who counts as "the usual". Yuuto cants his head to the side as if it'll give him a better angle to see who the new presence is, though he does chime in with: ]

—Good evening.

Marinette's mother made tea like that, but only once in a while made anything that was from her home country. "Well... I saw someone claiming to be a time traveling alien from the future," she said slowly after a moment of thought, "And another person who was a vampire." Both things she thought didn't exist.

"Well, if you don't mind sharing, you can just put it in there and leave a note on the fridge to let everyone know it's up for grabs. Otherwise you should probably put your name on it, or otherwise let someone know not to touch it. I can't speak for the others about their food, but I usually make enough for everyone to have some if they want, when I cook."

[ Yuuto is definitely just an observer, likewise off to the side—although, he's not so much a party pooper as he is simply curious, watching in the reserved manner he typically takes on. He almost doesn't notice the familiar face appearing beside him, and takes on a subtle amount of surprise when Regene makes his presence known. (Why hello there, we meet face to face at long last.) ]

... Maybe it's a different kind of performance.

You nearly hit my head a few times.

[Eichi is chuckling as he says this, relaxing easily into the comfort of his bed before reaching over to try and help him with that belt buckle.] You're so drunk, Gladio. I thought you would handle your alcohol better than me, at least, you know?

[Well, it's debatable who's handling it better. Eichi has no better hand eye coordination right now, especially after that intense orgasm. But together, they'll get it off, and Eichi can yank it out of the loops like a prize.]

Yeah, that's right about what I have planned. Visiting the landmarks here was one of the first things I did when I arrived. [ It was even prettier at night. ]

O..kaay... [ Again, WEIRD. Were all vampires like him? Actually that is a valid question. ]

Are there other ..vampires.. like you here?

There's no one like me, Pet.

[He grins, a little wickedly as he straightens up, because yes, Marinette. Look at the wonder that is Billy Idol's role model. Sort of.]

There may be another vamp here or there, but haven't met any from where I'm from. Might want to be careful at night, little bit.

[ There probably isn't anyone in the bathroom, but there is this kid in the kitchen. Yuuto is leaning back against the counter, phone in hand as he idly scrolls through different screens. There isn't anything running, but there is coffee sitting in the pot, and his own cup is set right beside him.

When an unfamiliar figure makes their way inside, Yuuto finally glances up. ]

Oh. Hello—?

[ She smiles a little, though whether that's to the nickname, the bravado or the almost-possibly-if-you-squint warning she doesn't fess up to it. ]

I'll be careful. I'm ah.. not out late that much anyway. [ Liar, Marinette. She was always sneaking out. Just not as Marinette. ]

An event like this is the exception to the rule.

It's not too bad if you're out in public, but that won't keep you completely safe. Don't wander down any alleys.

[He'd left his fair share of bodies around alley corners or behind dumpsters. Trust him. He knew what he was talking about.]

[Alright, that makes it official. He definitely isn't letting this girl go. With a smirk on his face, he slips his hands over her back and rolls over to pin her onto the bed, leaning down to deliver a teasing bite to her neck.]

It is, yeah... [He decides not to stop, pressing several kisses to her neck and jaw before elaborating.] I've picked up cars before. [A small pause.] And I'm not explaining what those are if you don't know, they're just big and heavy as shit.

[Regene didn't immediately notice who he was approaching, either, so his mouth tilts into a smile when he recognizes Yuuto from the video feed. Does that mean he regularly accosts strangers for their opinions on things he knows nothing about? How else does one learn when observation won't suffice?]

Very different. It also looks to me like he's not doing much more than playing someone else's prerecorded music. [Now he sounds much more blatantly like he's judging.] Saying there's performance involved at all is a stretch.

Nothing professional - man who raised me taught me plenty about this sort of shit.

[The man who raised him was also a motorbike mechanic turned crime boss but that's beside the point. Dodger's read enough medical books to have some vague understanding of how to run medical trials he's pretty sure maybe.

And also his head whips back up to watch him when he hears Cain get up. Do you even need to ask if he wants more.]

I think that last shot just hit me.

[ Look, they're basically getting their fingers all tangled up in the buckle and -- what a mess. Eventually Gladio gives up and presses his hands into the mattress to prop himself up, watching what surely is a real master at work. Which is about what you can expect it to be.

Yet another miracle that Eichi hasn't been knocked out cold by some misadventure, like yanking the belt off so hard that he clocks himself with the buckle and his own fist. But he does open it and Gladio drops back with a sigh, opens his pants and starts squirming out of them, kicking them off the bed. Pulls off the snug fitting pair of trunks he wears underneath, black like the rest of his attire. ]

Ugh, that took too much effort. [ Gladio doesn't move. He just waves vaguely. What he's about to ask is basically impossible, but hilarious. He's already laughing even before he finishes saying it. ] Alright, climb on.

Cool. I mean, I suck at biology.

[ Really, what does an immortal man need to know about bodily functions and reactions? He knows more than the average joe but it's one of his weakest scientific fields for sure.

That silent movement just gets a quiet chuckle and he wordlessly plates more for Dodger before coming back, too. ]

[That sends a chill through her, but she doesn't show it outwardly. She's heard various things from other people about their home worlds - worlds that have been destroyed, or war-torn, or nuked. Worlds that have a less forgiving and merciful justice system than the one she knows. Her next words are said quietly:] Unfortunately, yes. I can see now why he'd want a tight fist around the people he runs.

I... might take you up on that at some point. My partner would probably want to come with us as well, if we did. I'd need to prepare beforehand.

[She nods at her assessment.]

Well, it takes practice. I'm not exactly a great chef, but I'd like to think I can cook well enough to be healthy and survive. If you want to learn... [She gestures vaguely.] I wouldn't mind.

[ At some point she's going to stop being startled when these things happen, but not yet. There's a quick flash of tensed defensiveness, being thrown onto your back with the soft belly exposed is never good — but she tamps down on that about when that playful bite lands. This is clearly not an attack, her instincts can relax.

She tips her head to accommodate those kisses, but at least half her attention goes to experimentally straining against his hold. He's strong, she recognizes she'd have no chance at besting him in terms of strength. At least, not in this body. It's an usual feeling,
being restrained, and she thinks she enjoys the novelty of it. For now. ]

I've seen cars. [ It's only a slightly defensive mumble. He's being very distracting right now, and she's trying not to be reminded too strongly of how enjoyable it had been to sleep with him. ] Teleportation, then. Is there anything more to it besides what I've seen?

[ Shigeru smiles and nods, following Genji all the while as they walk. He's silent, unsurprisingly, but he does tap Genji on the arm as he points back at the parade. ]

Did you go to many things like this back home?

Climb...?

[Eichi can't take his eyes off of it, now. He feels a little intimidated, even if the alcohol is heavily dimming that. Even now, as he tries to shift to move closer to Gladio, his legs shake from the knees up where he's putting all of his weight. He honestly doesn't know if Gladio is joking or not, stop him, he's going to fall onto Gladio like this...]

Mortician. [Oh. Yeah, that's not the kind of sex counseling Frankenstein was thinking of. Not that he knows what it's actually like: psychiatry is a dead science in the UCA, except for the pill profits. ]

Guess the hair doesn't get in the way. Somehow.

[Because excuse him for wondering, but it sure looks like it would. ]

You should, I don't know, learn to watch where you're going. [Still not his problem. ]

[ Awww. She didn't know how she'd shape up against a vampire, but she didn't want to find out, either. Also she'll avoid commenting that her parents have given her the same warnings. She appreciated it, honest. ]

Got it. [ She should putter on for home, but... she was curious! ]

Is it true about the whole thing with the garlic and crosses? Or would you be breaking some kind of...vampirey..code to say?
