She doesn't know what most of that means and, as usual, feeling ignorant has her feeling irritated. Why is this world so confusing? But at least she has the gist of her answer — Dodger's new dog is here to be useful to him.

The thought does occur to her that these creatures are really just meant to serve, but it seems odd to her that a creature that can speak would have so little agency. From what she's seen of humans so far, she'd thought they were a little more concerned with things like personal freedom, and whatnot.
