[closed] fishin' buddies on a fishin' trip

who: Damen and Líadan
what: Fishing trip outside the walls!
when: End of June
where: South of the city
warnings: Monster fighting probably.

The trip had been arranged a few days prior, a spur of the moment sort of thing. He hasn't seen Liadan since the flower festival, but they had had a nice talk at the time, and Damen is always looking for different things to do. To get out of the apartment, out of the studio. Modeling pays well but it's incredibly boring; he mostly keeps up with it to maintain some semblance of the lifestyle he and Laurent are used to. It isn't his passion, it's not the sort of thing he loves.

He likes being outdoors, though. He likes the scenery beyond the walls of the inhabited city, the unfamiliar foliage and the fresh, warm, humid air. Li had promised to teach him how to fish today, and he's pleased at the prospect. They're hiking out now, Damen dressed in comfortable athletic clothes and carrying with him a backpack with a few supplies (enough for a day trip), a fishing pole, and a two-handed broadsword borrowed from the Perimeter Guard.

Walking along the river as it starts to widen, the ground is uneven out here, overgrown and wild outside the inhabited area, but he manages the terrain easily and with a slight spring in his step.

"I think I will manage the fishing part admirably," he says with a laugh. "But you might have to show me how to filet what we catch. I've never done that before."

Hopping a rock the peak of which is about thigh height, Líadan breathes in deep as she continues to match Damen stride for stride and with a bright smile as she turns her eyes heavenward to observe the skies for a moment. The settlement has its curiosities and wonders to be sure with its many new and foreign elements, but so does nature and she's just as excited to strike out into unknown wilds as she would be into the settlement proper.

Well, perhaps a bit more than that.

Foreign though it may be in a myriad of ways, nature is familiar to Lí and to be out and about in it in the company of a friend makes the air taste that much fresher, sweeter. The warmth is comfortable despite the humidity and manageable with light robes, a belt, and boots in the season's greens, browns, yellows, and blacks that suit her just fine, to the point that teaching Damen how to properly fish and finding the best place to do so remains at the forefront of her mind as they walk the bank. They aren't the only ones out for fish, of that much she is sure, and while she would be quite happy to debate with a predator over the ownership of the fish she's sure they'll catch, she'd prefer to see that Damen takes to the lesson first for his own prosperity first.

Shifting her satchel just so and with care given that it houses the supplies she brought along, she gives the dagger sheathed at her side a pat and makes a few minor adjustment to the bow and quiver full of arrows at her back. Should she need to challenge a different sort of foe than the fishing pole and hand line she brought along are suited to, she's prepared and confident in that. Shouldering her fishing pole with a grin, she turns her gaze to Damen.

"Then you are in good company, friend," she replies, that grin of hers widening. "I've had a dagger in my hand for as long as I can remember, and you? I'd be willing to bet," and she looks pointedly at that sword of his with an additional quirk of the lips, "that you are more of a sword man."

There may very well be some degree of playful accusation there. It would certainly explain how quickly he picked up on the footwork when they danced at the flower festival and she does remember that quite well for what good fun they had had then.
