"That's to keep things out." Clementine has been trapped in places a couple times, but not usually for long. She's far more used to walls being built to keep out dangers like walkers and bandits. It takes more reinforcement to keep out a walking corpse than you might think, and it only takes one broken board to get someone killed.
"You know, the monsters? You might not have seen any yet. There's a second fence further out but it's kind of glitchy so a lot of them make it through. This one's stronger." She can't put all of her faith in it, of course. That's why she's trying to make sure she's always prepared in the event of an invasion.
The monsters here are different. She prefers them, in a strange way, because when she looks at one she isn't seeing something that used to be human. If she gets bitten by one and manages to live, she doesn't have to worry about becoming one herself.
