prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. unveiling the new friendr

Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.

The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!

Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

» Preferences: sexual preference or n/a
» Interests: three interests

base code found here.

For this prompt, you can either post your character's new, fancy Friendr app profile in the comments, or provide a link to their updated code in an entry on their journal. Whatever floats your boat!

v. roommates or wildcard

Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Prijata, feel free to write it up!

Fufu, I'm Eichi Tenshouin, you know? I won't back down so easily at the sight of a challenge. If anything, it gets my blood pumping and inspires this weak heart of mine to keep moving me forward. ♪

[He would be bored, otherwise, and there's no fun in that, is there? Life isn't meaningful if it's dull.]

To be honest, I'm surprised that this "speed friending" worked as well as it did. I was expecting to find people who weren't sure of how to speak up, or wrote things on their list just to be included. It's a pleasant shock.

Always good to have a passion. Especially a passion for life.

[ There's a sort of settled happiness to him when he grins back. ]

Yeah, color me surprised too. Not that I doubt there's some people like that here... but since we're all displaced, I guess it's easier to be honest about wanting actual friends.

I suppose that is one way of looking at things, even if some of us are "displaced" from worlds other than our homes. It's a little inconvenient, but I prefer this place to where I was before.

[Which was, again, space, and he kept almost dying, it wasn't fun.]

[personal profile] aeturnus 2017-06-12 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
You're not the first one to tell me something like that. It's weird, because you get people who are all suspicious of this place even if it's... not really that bad? Just really inconvenient like you say. Waste of time, if nothing else.
finethanks: (☆ 12)

[personal profile] finethanks 2017-06-12 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
If anything, I'm grateful to this place. The spaceship we were on before seemed to promise peace and only gave us more challenges, so that may be why some people are suspicious, but I believe you can tell someone's intent right away upon speaking to them.

It worries me that I may have actually missed my graduation, but it isn't the first time I've missed school, so I'd rather be here than in the hospital. On top of that, there is a chance that if I ever can return, it will be at the same moment that I'd left... Which would be very ideal.

[personal profile] aeturnus 2017-06-12 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Do you think so? That would be the best outcome but it seems almost too optimistic. Maybe that's just my age speaking, though. I like your idea better.

What kind of challenges did they give you?

I don't believe it's the most likely, but worrying about it now would do little good, so I've decided not to think on it.

[Well, he tries not to, anyway.] There was one planet we visited that had two warring species. Our attempts under the captain's orders were to stop the warring and find a way to solve things, but somehow the planet was destroyed. We rescued all that we could of the two species. I became a liaison for one of the species along with two others who are here, and attempted to bring peace...

But after some gruesome murders on board, people began to turn their suspicions towards those aliens. I believe they had nothing to do with it. At one point in the middle of all this, we lost power, and had to stop at another planet before we ran out of oxygen. People were becoming aggressive towards the aliens and each other, and at one point I was worried that I'd be locked away while those aliens were attacked.

One of the passengers even did something suspicious with his eyes to me and I passed out. Shortly after that, I was pulled here.

[ He listens silently through the story and doesn't look away. On the surface it's a lot to take in, but the actual facts of it really just speaks to humanity. Perhaps personhood because he's not sure what to call it when you start including nonhumans that seem to fall into all the same traps. ]

That's some pretty bad luck. That last part, anyway. Before that is way more than just a challenge. And that kind of... no-win situation was common?

[ How does one somehow destroy a planet anyway? [

[personal profile] finethanks 2017-06-12 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
It was all I could see everyone dealing with. Those people whose lives were lost... I haven't seen them since then, even if there have been others from that ship who arrived here. Some of them don't have any memories, including the one who interrogated me and caused me to pass out.

[It's all very strange, though he's not sure if he'd call it luck. He doesn't like to use the word luck, mostly.]

[personal profile] aeturnus 2017-06-12 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... that is what happens when people die. [ Which is a weird thing to have to say. ]

Really? That person's here? Is that worrying?
finethanks: (☆ dedicate it to you)

[personal profile] finethanks 2017-06-12 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
You say that, but I've met at least a couple of people who seem to have defeated death itself.

[Like Reaper... But he knows death is very permanent.] It's unusual, since he doesn't recall a thing, but I don't know that I'd say worrying. He's actually done more to prevent his friend from killing me, so I suppose I'm grateful to him. Then again, I haven't seen him around recently at all...
aeturnus: (pic#11384451)

[personal profile] aeturnus 2017-06-14 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Hopefully as exceptions rather than rules.

[ It doesn't sit well with him when there's others who outlive their allotted time. He's not one to judge (except he does and will) but he also can't say for certain whether what he sees is normal or unnatural to the person when it's other realities. This uncertainty sucks. ]

You think he might have gotten home? Or moved away?
finethanks: (☆ 97)

[personal profile] finethanks 2017-06-16 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
It's possible. To be honest, I don't want to check. Not only do I not wish to hear any news on it, but we're hardly friends... I'm worried he could grow bothered, or that possessive friend of his who I also haven't heard from might come after me. That friend nearly stabbed me with a broken plate, you know?

[He lives an exciting life.] I'm beginning to think I should invest in bodyguards, but that's a little upsetting. I don't like to rely on others.
aeturnus: (pic#11384453)

[personal profile] aeturnus 2017-06-16 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
No one can blame you for that. If it happens again, or anything like that, what would you do?

[ Yeah, but Cain's not so surprised by it. It takes all sorts to fill the world. ]

If not bodyguards, you could at least inform the police. Put it down on record so if something happens they know you aren't pulling it from nowhere. Not as much reliance, anyway.
finethanks: (☆ 88)

[personal profile] finethanks 2017-06-17 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
I can't help but feel that's a little pointless with people as strong as them. They're ninjas, you know? If I was wanted dead and no one was around to help, I'd be gone in an instant, without hope.

[He says this so cheerily??] Like I said, it's been some time since I've seen them, so I'm not too worried. It's my own health that's more of a burden in this place.
aeturnus: (pic#11384441)

[personal profile] aeturnus 2017-06-17 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
If there's people as strong as them out there, then there's people who are stronger and statistically those people could be on your side just as much as theirs.

[ He gets it, but he also thinks Eichi is simplifying it too much. ]

Poor health's never been my forte to deal with, so I guess I'll just ask the requisite: have you seen the doctors around these parts yet? They're more advance than what I'm used to, but I don't know what level your world is on.
finethanks: (☆ 6)

[personal profile] finethanks 2017-06-17 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
They're more advanced than in my world, as well, but it seems even these doctors aren't sure how to cure me. I was put in the hospital immediately upon my arrival, as well as a handful of times since then, so I'm familiar with the staff there.

I have medication to help with my symptoms.

Please do. I intend to move them past just those night clubs, so please look forward to it in the future, as well.
