prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. unveiling the new friendr

Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.

The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!

Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

For this prompt, you can either post your character's new, fancy Friendr app profile in the comments, or provide a link to their updated code in an entry on their journal. Whatever floats your boat!

v. roommates or wildcard

Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Prijata, feel free to write it up!

[ It's definitely interesting, parting the way for someone taller than him. Kind of like having a lookout behind while he pushes on ahead. It's funny more than anything relevant and he's in a pretty okay mood by the time he gets them to the water, glancing back at her once they're there. ]

All these things seem pretty important to people. Stuff they'd want or don't mind having. Who would say no to free generosity like that? Hand-picked for them?

For me, it makes me wonder what else it could bring along if it can reach in and grab this necklace in particular. [ She touches the chain at her neck, the metal tarnished with age. On her all black outfit it doesn't stand out too terribly much, but the significance of having it again isn't lost on her. It was, in an odd way, her own jewelry, after all. For a girl unadorned by anything other than make-up otherwise, it's a pretty unique thing. ]

It also serves to remember that 'free' is not always free. They're kind enough to provide enough for most people that it may serve to make them more willing, should a conflict appear.

Not that this place seems ready for war, just.. something I linger on, from time to time.

Do you think it might just be a copy?

[ It's an interesting idea, that their gifts may not be just as offered. Having some secret price is the first thought; that they may not even be the items advertised but convincing fakes is his second. He shrugs to her points not in dismissal but counterpoint. ]

You're not wrong. No matter what, providing for someone breeds attachment. That's human nature. Most of the people here are sincere to my eyes but if we end up being on the wrong side of something, the human element makes it harder to pull away.

[ She's right. It isn't relevant now but something to keep in mind. Don't let the hand that feeds you pull you into something bigger, either. ]

Shall we see if there's anything to the touching-the-water thing?

[ He sits down on the edge and does just that. Places his hand flat along the surface, fingers curling only once he's made contact. Somewhere nearby amidst multitudes of others, something bubbles up. ]

There's always the chance. But if this place could pull us from our own worlds and timelines I doubt something petty like time is going to stop it from grabbing the real thing if it really wants. [ The sarcasm is palpable, but she's definitely not taking it lightly, either. The idea that this place could possibly break through time and space to grab even the necklace at her neck is... she doesn't want to think about it too far. The implications are too much. ]

Exactly. I don't want to be sucked in to some kind of obligation because I took a box out of a fountain, later. That will for sure chafe some. [ She's had far too much of this give and take in life already and she's only 20. ]

That's not to say that I know for sure this place will require something later, just... a pessimistic inclination tells me I should be a bit wary of those who give so freely.

[ She makes a 'go ahead' motion as he asks about the touching the water experiment, watching from her spot. Thankfully being taller she can still see most of it, even with people crowding about.

Her head tips to the side as she notices something bubble up, trying to catch a better view of what's going on. ]

Something's just bubbled up over there.

That's just the thing. Is this pool using the same power and technology as the portal or is it something else?

[ Assuming all things come from the same source seems like folly to him. It may be the Quarantine's claim to fame, but there has to be more to it than just that portal. ]

Huh? It did? [ He turns, scans the boxes, then sees one starting to float toward him. ] Would you look at that...

[ When it gets to him, the top begins to peel back and open up. Inside lies... a stack of journals. ]

That would be a question to ask. I hadn't thought to just yet.

[ And if they wanted to be so forthcoming with information they might as well broach the subject and see what they were willing to give them in terms of information, right? Those without something to hide surely couldn't care about saying what the fountain drew off of, after all. ]

Yes, over there - [ She attempts to point it out, but he spots it anyways, and she watches as it floats over, exactly as it did when she'd put her hand to the surface.

The contents seem to take her slightly by surprise, though, a brow raising. ]

You're a writer, then?

There's probably more, and getting everyone together to just collect questions wouldn't be a bad idea.

[ Not that he's suspicious, but he really does think it better to get everything collated at once. His anonymous post didn't quite go that direction but maybe it got people thinking of things to ask for later, at the very least. ]

Oh... only sort of. They're personal journals. Things I can't afford to forget.

[ He pulls one out while still holding the dripping box, flips open into the front half of the journal and scans it. French for the on that was on top. ] Good ones, too.

Or it could be total chaos. [ Look at the people gathered here - nearly there. She takes a sweeping glance around as if to prove her point, though when it comes to saying it.. well, she'll just abstain. Proving point that were in the process of proving themselves seems a bit fruitless. Besides, who knew what kinds of things people would ask about around here. She wouldn't be shocked by anything odd. ]

Well then you got something useful, at least. [ As much as she wants to, she's not going to inquire about them. After all, she barely knows him, and it's a level of nosey even Re-L won't invest herself in. ]

It seems many things people pull out of here have some kind of sentimental value.
aeturnus: (pic#11359465)

[personal profile] aeturnus 2017-06-17 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
There's still things to be drawn from chaos. [ Whatever happens, conclusions could still be drawn. It wouldn't be the exercise he wants to observe but anything to do with this place could use more investigating. ]

Yeah... This one is definitely sentimental value, too. Was yours?

[ It's an invasive-uninvasive question, Cain glancing up to her to see the answer. She mentioned the necklace but was it just something she owned before or something that had meaning? ]
realimperfect: (everybody wants to know)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-06-19 03:01 am (UTC)(link)

Count me out if it turns in to some ridiculous storm of too many questions. I don't have the patience for that kind of thing. [ She's coming to terms with her own faults, at least, particularly when it came to impatience and just... generally lacking the ability to take a deep breath and let whatever was happening to continue - it wasn't in her blood, maybe a left over from Romdeau dome, but regardless... Acknowledging is the first step, right?

The question concerning the necklace gives her pause, though - her sarcastic comment from earlier slowing to be a bit of trepidation - Mainly that the story is so outlandish in it's own way. ]

It belongs to the other person I travel with, in my world. He thought it was gone for good.
aeturnus: (pic#11384451)

[personal profile] aeturnus 2017-06-20 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
How about you help me sort through the answers we get after I deal with the questions? [ Not that Cain intended to pull her into the whole thing anyway, but if she's offering... Take all the help where you can get it, yeah? ]

Huh. What's the chance it disappeared because it ended up here?
realimperfect: (everybody wants to know)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-06-21 12:53 am (UTC)(link)

I would prefer that, if you must. [ Of course she'll want to help, but there's always that urge to temper his expectations a little. Who knew what the hell they'd be asked, what answers they would get, or what would happen in the city that she'd be expected to help with or investigate in the mean time. ]

Considering what Vincent told me - it's doubtful. He gave it back to it's owner, that's why he didn't have it, and she has since died.

Well, I don't have to. I'm not here to conscript people.

There goes that... Nice memento in the meanwhile?
