prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. unveiling the new friendr

Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.

The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!

Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

(She's a little shy to just ask him stuff out of the blue despite her interest, so:)

Yeah, I do. I program phone apps.

[ Rounding up to three thousand years old, and he's an app developer. Very ambitious and power-hungry, this immortal. Sure. ]

Hmm. That's... fun.

(It doesn't sound fun, but only because Lucretia is privately a little baffled by her phone. Too modern.)

Yeah, at Gramarye. I'm going to take it.

Can be sometimes. It's usually just pretty rote.

[ He nods. ]

That seems right up your alley. Someday I'll probably look into magic myself, but I have no idea where I'd start. What about you? Would you say you pick up a lot just being from somewhere that has it?

[scholiast]

Maybe you can help me figure out how to set up my phone. It's so... complicated.

(She doesn't really care for it but Taako messages her a lot on it, so she's begrudgingly kept it handy.)

I'm really keen to start. And yeah, I'd say so. Though I've done a lot of self teaching. Taako and his sister are both very proficient, but they don't care for the theory behind the actual magic so... (she trails off, frowning.) It's been easier to just figure it out for myself.

Oh. Oh, yeah, sure. It's supposed to be user-intuitive but that's in a culture where we've been building up to it for a while. Guess it'd be pretty out there for others...

[ He's thought about it, but not really in the absolute. Must be hard to be from somewhere that might not follow the conventions of the Quarantine at all. ]

Self-teaching is more than I'd ever get to do. I'm not even sure I can since it's not a thing for humans where I'm from. Sounds like work will mix with pleasure here, though.

[scholiast]

(Supposed to be user-intuitive huh. Lucretia digs her phone out of her pocket, turning it over in her palm.) We didn't have these on Faerûn, so it's all news to me. I know how to send messages and that's about it.

Humans can't do magic where you're from? (How strange.) Why?

[aeturnus]

That's more than some people ever get. What else were you looking to do?

[ He shrugs. ] Because humans can't handle it. The very few times I've seen people trying to channel it, it's gone horribly wrong. Magic is for the spirits.

[scholiast]

I've seen pictures on it before. (She stops in place, and passes it over to Cain.) So can it take photos? I just want to know how to do that.

(Lucretia snorts, nonplussed.) Interesting. I guess where I come from humans are made of stronger stuff.

[aeturnus]

Easy enough. Let me see... [ He flips through it a bit, eventually finds the camera app and puts it on the front page. ] It'll be this button here, see?

Probably, considering that you punched a monster bird. Or maybe you're just built differently, or your magic is different.

[scholiast]

(Oh, look at that. He did that so easily. Lucretia taps the button, taking the phone back from him to check out the camera app. This, at least, is immediately straight forward. She promptly takes a picture of her feet, and then, after raising it and turning, one of the fountain behind them, off in the distance.)

Great. This is– great, thank you. (This is definitely going to change the way she journals. If only she could take this back to the Starblaster with her.)

Yeah, I did do that huh. (She winces, embarrassed.) It seemed like a good idea at the time? I panicked.

[aeturnus]

You're welcome. I can show you how to search for other functions too, if it comes up. [ He smiles to see her happy, even if it's something that should be simple. Nothing is simple here. ]

Hey, you lived to tell the tale so I'm not judging. It was pretty impressive.

[scholiast]

Search for other functions? Like what? (How many functions are there? She hands it back to him happily.)

Thank you. You had the much better idea of actually running away, though.

[aeturnus]

Like weather apps or timers or calendars, or there's a lot of dumb stuff you can do with these things. [ He starts scrolling through, shows her the search function before moving on to the app store and scrolling through slow enough for her to catch some of it. ]

Well, my first idea was to run through if you recall. Would have worked but probably been more upsetting.

[scholiast]

You can do all of that on– on this? (But it's so tiny. Lucretia watches him flick through, astounded.) I suppose I know what I'm doing this evening, then.

Hmm, true. I suppose I can't give you all the credit, huh.

[aeturnus]

Yep. They're pretty amazing, and just getting smaller and stronger. No one's quite sure what the real potential is yet.

[ He shakes his head. ]

Life's no fun if you plan everything out beforehand.

[scholiast]

(Well, colour her impressed.) Thanks for helping. Could I send you questions later if I can't figure out how to do something?

Hmm. I don't know if I can agree with you on that one. Planning always makes me feel a little more secure.

[aeturnus]

Absolutely. [ Then he goes to contacts and adds himself in. Jacob Kane. Simple enough. Then he hands it back. ] Don't hesitate, I'm basically glued to it.

Planning is always good, but do you always plan?

[scholiast]

(She blinks at the name, and taps it with her finger, bringing up his network id.) Is your first name Jacob?

Well... no, not always. Quite often there isn't time to plan.

[aeturnus]

Yes. First name Jacob, last name Kane. Sorry if it wasn't clear before.

[ That gets a smile and a nod. ]

There you go. Maybe it's not ideal, but it can be fun just going by what you can do, right?

[scholiast]

No, it's okay. (He seems more like a Cain than a Jacob, but that might be because she's only know him as the former until now.)

There's fun and then there's stressful, (she points out, a rueful smile on her face.) I think it depends on the situation.

You can call me whichever you want. Not like I know how your people must handle names. Even in one world not everyone agrees on that.
