prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. unveiling the new friendr

Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.

The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!

Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

base code found here.

For this prompt, you can either post your character's new, fancy Friendr app profile in the comments, or provide a link to their updated code in an entry on their journal. Whatever floats your boat!

v. roommates or wildcard

Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Prijata, feel free to write it up!

[ Anderson is a quick study, so she understands the point of this immediately, largely because half the names she doesn't recognize and the other half are historical to her.

Normally she wouldn't stop at a table like this. It's clearly not directed at her. But normally the presence of a Judge makes people nervous, innocent or guilty or somewhere in between, and Anderson doesn't enjoy making people sweat unless they're scumbags. There seems to be a much lower proportion of scumbags to not around here than she's used to, and it makes her disinclined to rattle people.

But no one knows what a Judge is, so it's just her outfit doing that: full black body armor, practical and worn, with a large handgun and assorted other high-tech equipment strapped on for good measure. It doesn't match her trim, short stature or open, soft face at all, but Anderson carries everything comfortably nonetheless. She's long since turned off her mental scanning, having verified everything is real and there's no simmering illusion anywhere, and she's been slowly forced to shift her own thinking to the realization that she can afford to reach out, here. To make connections.

Not just afford to, but should. It's bewildering and freeing and maybe slightly scary.

So she approaches the table, self-conscious of how intimidating she looks but not showing it, and tries to smile slightly to indicate approachability. ]
Not a bad idea, [ she comments. ] I wish I'd thought of it. [ She doesn't expect there to be anyone she knows personally-- Mega-City One is a big place-- but if there's another Judge here, she'd like to know. ]

{Tim's been watching the armed young woman since she wandered into his area of the exhibition. Not too closely, but enough that he knew where she was the whole time. Her age doesn't concern him, one of the scariest people he knows is thirteen, but the ease with which she carries her weapons, the worn serviceable familiarity of her armor, all of that screamed experience and skill.

Then she approaches his table, smiles, and instantly gets what he was trying to do. It reminds him of Cass for a split second. Pretty, deadly, smart, and trying so hard to be something more. He can't let his guard down of course, not at first but,....

He smiles back, a small quick thing.}

Thanks. You can have that chair and stick your own sign to the table if you want. I don't mind company.

{It was true. Any company he was likely to have right now was going to give him new information about something and if she hung around he might get to ask her about some of the gear she was carrying.}

[ It's not an inaccurate comparison. And she appreciates the invitation, her smile going from a glimpse to something more genuine, easier.

She swings around one of the neighboring tables and takes him at face value, setting her own small gift, flat and rectangular, down on the table in front of her. ]
Sure. Mind if I borrow a marker? [ Not that she really needs it-- her uniform is a screaming neon sign to anyone from her dimension-- but she'll play along. It makes things easier, opens up a dialogue. ]

{Tim produces the marker smoothly from his pocket holding it out with a small glance at the thing she sets on the table, but not asking about it yet.}

Did you just arrive recently, too? I'm Tim, by the way.

Anderson. And yes, I did.

[ He might notice a matching, stylized badge on her chest that says her name there as well. She accepts the marker with a gloved hand and turns to lean over the table and fetch a blank sign. She uncaps it, writes a single hyphenated word:

Mega-Cities

After propping it up beside Tim's, she takes her seat and offers the marker back. ]
Any takers yet on yours? [ It's just idle curiosity, small talk. ]
stalkingandplotting: (I believe in you)

[personal profile] stalkingandplotting 2017-06-14 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
{Tim takes note of her simple sign and the badge, realizing a bit too slowly for his comfort that her armor must be some kind of organization's uniform, not just her own choices.}

More than I thought there would be, honestly. I think only one or two are actually from my world, but the other seem to be from similar enough variants to recognize the big things.

{Tim is bad at small talk and jumps right into interdimensional travel.}
wronganswer: (vidanda23)

[personal profile] wronganswer 2017-06-15 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Her brows furrow in honest surprise. She can't say she'd rather have stayed on the small talk, but interdimensional travel is completely new to her. ]

'Similar enough variants'? What does that mean?

[ It's not like Anderson took advanced physics classes. Or much physics at all. ]

i give up

[personal profile] stalkingandplotting 2017-06-21 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
{Tim blinks, a little surprised not everyone got the multiple dimensions rundown upon their arrival. He takes a second to gather his thoughts, pulling out another sheet of paper and the marker they'd made their signs with.}

Okay so...{He draws a series of circles within each other.} one of these layers is the collective grouping of universes similar to mine. Another is the collective grouping of universes similar to yours.

{He pauses watching her face, seeing if she's following him.}

Within each grouping there are infinite possibilities. For example, there's a world where I was born a woman, a world where I was never born at all, a world where Superman never came to Earth and it was destroyed. Every thing that could have happened did. Somewhere.
wronganswer: (vidanda31)

defeat accepted

[personal profile] wronganswer 2017-06-21 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She leans over in her chair to watch as he draws, taking it all in acutely. ]

Huh. Okay. How do you know about all this? Mine can't be the only one that's totally isolated. [ That would be too crazy. ]
stalkingandplotting: (I believe in you)

[personal profile] stalkingandplotting 2017-06-21 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
There are people in my world that have traveled through universes, and people from other universes that have been stranded in mine, too. So, we've had a bit of proof, and people have taken up studying it. I like to read the conclusions they reach when I can.

{Congratulations on meeting an A++ nerd, Anderson.}

Wow. [ A blink. Then, genuinely, ] That's fascinating.

You must be having a fun time living it for yourself. I never imagined anything like this.
stalkingandplotting: (Evade this conversation fast)

[personal profile] stalkingandplotting 2017-06-25 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Fun is a strongly positive term for what I'm feeling, but it's definitely fascinating.

{He brushes his hand across the drawing.}

There's a great opportunity to learn new things here, I think.

I have no argument with that. And it's not like city won't run itself with me not there.

[ She's actually very frustrated to be pulled away from her ambitions, but Anderson is extremely prosaic. She's no one special at home, past being a powerful psychic. That's something the Hall of Justice uses to its advantage, but that has nothing to do with her as a person. She has no one specific she feels she must go back to. ]
stalkingandplotting: (I believe in you)

[personal profile] stalkingandplotting 2017-06-26 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You're fine being here then? You don't think it's a mistake?

{Tim's curious. Most of the people he's run into here are trying to get home.}

I'm the one who thought I was out of place. We all did, didn't we?

[ Nice dodge to answering the real question. Anderson just isn't sure herself yet. It's only been a couple days. ]
