prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. unveiling the new friendr

Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.

The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!

Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

[He hoped. The idea that his Father had made miracle Chloes in other universes to try to tempt His son was... disturbing.]

[ Even if it's not true, he won't begrudge the assumption. Cain had the same one about Rome being specific to his own reality, after all. That one still hasn't settled into sense yet. ]

[ He glances down to the water, filled to the brim with gifts that have rarely failed to get some kind of reaction out of people. ]

Is there even a magic for that kind of thing? Guaranteed satisfied with your gift, or your homeworld back?

Likely not. I'm still trying to sort out how they managed this in the first place. Rare is the reality that knows quite so much about others.

[ It makes sense in a twisted way, to Cain. If there's a reality out there that knows of many different realities, then it's the one most likely for those to learn about it firsthand just through standard probability. He's still interested to hear what this golden-chained person has to say about it. ]

[There was a laugh there as he moved to tuck the DVD into a pocket, hand hovering over it as if to ensure it stayed safe.]

[ Good of an opening as any. He notices the careful touch he has for the DVD and it's pretty obvious this guy doesn't value it for the magnificent storytelling. It's got personal meaning. ]

[His other hand came out, ready for a shake as he smiled at the man who seems to have taken an interest in him.]

[ He stares only for the brief moment it takes for things to click. Laughing softly, he reaches out to shake his head. ]

So that would explain the lifespan.

[ He shakes his head, makes a slight motion to his own neck. ]

Sorry, taking it from the top. I can see when people are supposed to die, it's an ability some people have where I'm from. Stop me if you see where I'm going with this.

[ Beat. ]

Jacob Kane, by the way. Forgot that part.

[The name didn't ring any bells, but Lucifer wouldn't have expected it to.]

Right. And what exactly do you see for me, mm? Mucked up your little system a bit, have I?

Uh... hard to say. New to me. But if you don't know, I'm not telling.

[ That's just how it works. You never tell someone their own time, but he figures someone claiming to be Lucifer Morningstar might already have the idea. ]

Wouldn't say it's my system, either. As long as the ones back home do what they're supposed to... I can't really say anything about other realities, can I?

No? Why, does that break it? I think I'm a bit beyond that, don't you? Never mind. Won't change anything either way. Now, how long have you been here, mm? Long enough to figure out the little ins and outs?

It's the rules. If you tell someone their time, then they might know enough to try and do something about it. That's a bad thing.

[ Even if Lucifer doesn't have time so much as... lack it. Or have all the time. It's hard to say either way. ]

About a month, so enough to have an idea about here. Not long enough to know all the juicy deets.

Yes, well, doubtful. Already kicked it twice, as it were. Doesn't seem to stick.

[Literal devil here, Cain. Catch up.]

And what is the situation here? Are they really on the up and up? I can't really ask them, as one of them seemed a bit too susceptible to certain charmed. Poor thing swooned. Not that I blame her.

How does that even happen?

[ He's so very confused by this, if only because of conflicting statements and what he sees. It isn't that he's unwilling to learn, however. Considering he does indeed believe he's dealing with something that defies anything he's ever known, Cain's taking it pretty well. ]

Individually, most of the people working on this seem like fine, upstanding situations. Hard to say if the whole organization is the same way but if nothing else, they haven't made any moves to jeopardize that appearance yet so it's safe for now. [ He does pause, raise a brow. ] Couldn't you just... not charm her?

Really just a transference of state, depending on celestial status. All very boring and clinical. I'm sure you don't care.

[A tip of his head to the side, a little bit of a sad for Cain look appearing on Lucifer's face.]

Oh, you dear boy. Doesn't work that way, I'm afraid. Oh, I can keep a leash on one aspect, surely, but the whole desiring the bad boy bit? Just another gift from Dad that seems to have a life of its own.

[ He rolls his eyes for the look but endures the explanation. Whatever the Devil thinks should be obvious, even between realities, it's still information and he'll take it. Being called boy on the other hand has his lips quirking upward because huh, he really would be that young to someone like this, wouldn't he? ]

Sounds like a hassle to me. I'm sure you survive just fine, though.

[As if there was ever any doubt, Cain. Honestly.]

So, you can see death, mm? Does that make you some kind of reaper? Necromancer?

[aeturnus]

[ Cain withholds his scoff because that's a fair question to those who don't know. Those who aren't from the same place he is, even if his gut instinct is that this understanding should be universal. It was the whole world until a month ago, now it's so much larger. Takes getting used to. ]

Neither. Reapers are something else entirely, and necromancy is a good way to get yourself brutally murdered by said Reapers or maybe an Enforcer. No, it's just a genetic thing. Built-in afterlife job opportunity, though.

[ That said, he glances around and motions that perhaps they should move away from the fountain now. His own gift doesn't appear to be here and there's people going in and out constantly, making for a pretty busy and jostling environment. ]

[Lucifer turns to fall in step with Cain, happy to move the conversation elsewhere. New was good. New was entertaining and at the moment, Lucifer needed to be entertained. Distracted from how he got here and what had happened just before.]

And this is all business as usual where you're from? Necromancers and reapers and, what... enforcers? What are those?

More or less. Especially if you're part of it because of how you were born.

[ Even more because he was one of the first. As far as he knows, anyway. It's the impression he remembers from growing up and that's the best they'll ever get now. ]

Enforcers are essentially spirits put to help the Reapers out before they pass on. Punish the people who abuse the power, help spirits that get stuck in the living world, couple other things.

And are any of those helpful spirits here? I'm curious just how much of each alternate reality's been siphoned in here with each person.
