prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. unveiling the new friendr

Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.

The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!

Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

For this prompt, you can either post your character's new, fancy Friendr app profile in the comments, or provide a link to their updated code in an entry on their journal. Whatever floats your boat!

v. roommates or wildcard

Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Prijata, feel free to write it up!

somnioergosum: (And lying she knew was a sin)

Ronan had finished cleaning one of the cattle barns and been admiring his adopted herd for a few moments. He heard Ivar coming, knowing it was him specifically from the sound of wheels. Allowing the silence though ignorant of the appreciation that went hand in hand with it, he turned only when Ivar spoke.

"Yeah, and how do you know it was me?" Ronan thought about pretending he knew nothing of it for a while longer. He was good at redirection. But it was pointless in this case. Even if Ivar didn't know better, Ronan's brief, proud smile gave it away.

That wheelchair had been harder than he expected. He'd made more intricate things, sure, but most of it had been accidental.

"You don't have to thank me. A viking needs killer wheels or it's a missed opportunity."
ragnarsson: ([17.43] Please)

[personal profile] ragnarsson 2017-06-06 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Ivar hadn't known Ronan for very long, he knew this wasn't just something he would do for anyone he knew. It softened something inside Ivar that was usually so hard and angry. "Because I know so many people who would get me a wheelchair that looks like it was designed to impale people in battle, that's how."

He wheeled up next to Ronan, preferring to look at the cattle instead of him, afraid that his face would give too much away. "Still, you didn't have to and you did." He held out a small bag, still determined to not look Ronan in the eye.

"I got you something too, though it's not nearly as awesome as this."

Before Ronan could think of a flippant remark to this bordering on heartfelt moment, Ivar had thrust a bag at him. The moment drifted every closer to awkwardly sentimental, if it wasn't already there.

Curious, at both the gift and the way Ivar wasn't looking at him, Ronan took the bag.

A brief and, Ronan felt, irrational thought burst into his head that this might be something romantic. Ronan dreaded the prospect, primarily because he had a boyfriend, but he soon reassured himself that Ivar was a viking. He probably hated people knowing he had a heart as much as Ronan did.

The thought was soon struck from his mind when Ronan opened the bag.

"Aw sweet, man." He pulled out the boxing wraps. "Black as sin. Fucking awesome. God, I can't wait to test these suckers out." He flexed his hand before he started wrapping them around his fist.

Ronan was like a kid in a candy store if the candy store was outside a MMA match.
ragnarsson: ([17.44] Relieved and happy)

[personal profile] ragnarsson 2017-06-11 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
Ivar was nowhere near brave enough to have gotten Ronan anything that even hinted romantically at what he felt towards him. Besides, Ivar was sort-of hoping he'd just wake up and be over it one of these days. It hadn't happened yet, but hey, a psychopath unused to feeling could dream, right?

He looked both relieved and happy at Ronan's response to his gift, finally able to look Ronan again in the eye. That was just how he'd been hoping the other teen would react. "I thought you would like them." That intellect that allowed Ivar to know what people were thinking and how they would react also made him an excellent gift-giver.

"What are you going to use them on? The living sides of beef over there?" He gestured to the cows.
somnioergosum: (And lying she knew was a sin)

[personal profile] somnioergosum 2017-06-13 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"I beat people, not cows. Look at my shit eating bastards." Ronan gestured expansively to the herd, grazing on grass and chewing cud. "That's not a fair fight. I'm going to find someone who can punch back." As he spoke, he punched the air, grinning almost maliciously by now.

Ronan considered how he could go about boxing or fighting in general while not alerting Adam to the fact that he was risking more concussions. He decided Adam would just have to live with it.
ragnarsson: ([17.49] Your legs and your wings)

[personal profile] ragnarsson 2017-06-15 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
"I never would have pegged you for someone who got along with animals." But no one thought the same thing of Ivar, assuming he was the type of kid who had poisoned kittens and cut the tails off dogs as a child for fun. Not so. He'd discovered early on that animals were the only ones who didn't judge him based solely off the fact he couldn't walk. For that reason, he got along much better than he did with most people.

"Just don't beat them up too badly. Are you aware of how many police officers are in this city?" Ivar had become very aware of that fact after ending up in the hospital. If it hadn't been for his quick thinking and a half-lie, he would have likely been sitting in a jail cell right now.
somnioergosum: (And lying she knew was a sin)

[personal profile] somnioergosum 2017-06-16 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"I grew up on a farm. It's why they put me here." Or so Ronan imagined. Truthfully, given the opportunity to pick any job here, he'd still choose this one. "And anyway, it's not like the cows deserve to have the crap beat out of them. A lot of people do." Ronan flexed his hand again then unwrapped it. "I don't go picking fights around cops. I'll find someone who wants to practice and we'll lovingly punch each other until one of us passes out."
ragnarsson: ([19.7] It's worth a shot)

[personal profile] ragnarsson 2017-06-18 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
"You were a peasant!" Ignore the smirk on Ivar's face. He just enjoyed messing with the people he cared about. Besides, he'd been a prince up until recently. He could afford to look down on the little people who did something as base as cultivating crops.

"Put me down as one of those people. I'd love to show you what I can do." A sparring session between the two of them would most likely end with a doctor's visit when one of them got a bit too enthusiastic with their punches, but it would also be immensely satisfying to hit someone who wouldn't hold back.
somnioergosum: (I dream of genies)

[personal profile] somnioergosum 2017-06-18 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was a fucking millionare." Ronan response was good natured though. He had the money to do whatever he wanted and he chose to spend it on a farm. There was nothing to be embarrassed of there. "I'm more hands on than the feudal lords you pillage."

Ronan lighly punched Ivar's shoulder, then twisted his wrist so his knuckles dug in. He pulled his hand away. "You're on," he paused and added. "Let's keep this one between us. If anyone catches me beating the crap out of you, they'll get the wrong idea."

Ronan knew that Ivar wasn't defenseless, but the optics weren't great. Also, Adam would be furious. He'd need some time to come up with the right spin.
ragnarsson: ([18.8] You've got a better idea)

[personal profile] ragnarsson 2017-06-22 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
"What's a millionaire? That sounds like some sort of disease." They didn't yet have that word in the time period Ivar's from.

"Of course. I'm sure most people won't understand you trying to beat up a poor, helpless cripple in a wheelchair." Anyone who knew Ivar would know just how much of a misconception that was. He was just as likely to beat the crap out of someone as they were to do the same to him. He hadn't grown up with four brothers without learning how to throw and take a punch.
somnioergosum: (I know you I walked with you once...)

[personal profile] somnioergosum 2017-06-22 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ronan snorted at that, thinking of affluenza. He counted it as a small fortune that no one tried to use that to excuse his actions. PTSD, yes.

"Depends on who you talk to. It means I'm rich. I'm not working out the conversion rate." He stared back at his current herd. The ones back home were all sleeping, perhaps forever if Ronan couldn't wake them. Ronan would give up all of his fortune to wake the sleepers and rebuild the place, then worry about bankruptcy later.

His smile thinned. He looked back at Ivar, eager to dash those thoughts away. "Trying? I'm going to beat someone up but not a poor, helpess cripple. Don't you dare let me down."
ragnarsson: ([17.21] Mmmhmm)

[personal profile] ragnarsson 2017-06-23 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Good. That'll serve you well when you die." That's how Vikings thought. Build up your wealth and treasure while they lived in Midgard so they'd have a nice little treasure trove to spend when they spent eternity in Odin or Freya's halls. To the Norse, you really could take it with you when you died.

Ivar slugged Ronan hard on the side of his arm, a move one part affection and one part to show him that he did know what he was talking about when it came to fighting. "Wouldn't dream of it." He was definitely going to look forward to this. Ronan couldn't know it, but for most Vikings, sparring with someone they held a crush for was akin to openly flirting.
somnioergosum: (And lying she knew was a sin)

[personal profile] somnioergosum 2017-06-25 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, Vikings. Ronan reflected on the difference between that mindset and how hard it was for a rich man to get into heaven, according to Jesus. If only he could recognize the other differences in their cultures, he might be able to avoid potential heartbreak. Then again, his track record back home hadn't been great on that front anyway.

The punch drew him back from those brief thoughts. He smirked in response. "Yeah, don't get your hopes up. You're not sending me to Valhalla yet. I'll see you then."
