introductory mingle: PRIJATA
what: Introductory Log and Prijata Celebration
when: June 1st - June 8th
where: Anywhere around the city.
warnings: please put any necessary warnings in the subject lines

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.
i. gift fountain
While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.
Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.
This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.
ii. speed-friending
This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!
For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!
iii. club exhibition
Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.
And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.
iv. unveiling the new friendr
Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.
The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!
Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

For this prompt, you can either post your character's new, fancy Friendr app profile in the comments, or provide a link to their updated code in an entry on their journal. Whatever floats your boat!
v. roommates or wildcard
Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Prijata, feel free to write it up!

[Letha's very presence was enough for the teenage Viking. He still felt like the luckiest man alive to have someone like her who cared for him exactly the way he was.]
I do. You still planning on it?
no subject
[As she's speaking, she pulls her tablet out of her bag and shows him a few pictures of the place. Most notably, she's very proud of having found a house with a wheelchair ramp in lieu of front steps.]
There wasn't much to move, so it's a bit empty in there, but... more importantly it's rather lonely, and I- I'd very much appreciate if you came to live there with me. I know I wouldn't be able to accomodate your horse, but there's room for your ponyta to stretch his legs in the yard, and the house is fully accessible for your chair, and... the bed there is rather large, so it seems a waste to have it all to myself. It has three bedrooms, so perhaps you could... repurpose one, into whatever you like. [
Like a second kid's room I don't know just saying.] But I don't want to pressure you, I understand if it's a bit-... much.no subject
His face is unreadable as she makes her offer to him. It's a big commitment to move in with her. For Vikings, something like that would practically be stating they're all but married, and he suspects that it's much the same where Letha is from. Then there's the issue of sleeping together every night. While they're like they've been taking things slow, he knows eventually she'll want more. And he already knows he can't please a woman the way a man should be able to.
It makes a feeling of apprehension rise up. And yet... And yet he likes the idea of having a place to share with her, spending time together, maybe fixing up a room for Letha's daughter. So he gives her an honest answer.]
It would make me happy to move in with you. But I'll keep the bed I have on floor five. Sometimes, I'll need space to myself.
[Ivar was nothing if not odd, and if Letha pushed him too far in a quarrel, he didn't want to be in the same space lest his mind turn to thoughts of murder. Better to keep something for himself where he could cool off.]
no subject
I don't mind, I know I can be a bit... much.
[Ivar's temper is quicker than hers, so he hasn't managed to see her really throw a tantrum. But she knew if he ever did, it would be worth avoiding her for a while. She wouldn't blame him at all for that.]
I don't want to seem needy, I really don't... I just- I get afraid of sleeping alone, in case something- happens.
no subject
I'll be there for you. I'll make sure nothing happens to you or your daughter.
[He strokes the edges of Letha's cheek with his thumb, the skin of his hand rough and dry. His protective streak has come into full affect with his girlfriend. He'd bleed anyone dry who so much as touched her in Riverview.]
no subject
I love you, Ivar.
[She's honestly not sure why she hasn't said it before - the words fill her up from top to bottom whenever he touches her. It had taken months and months to admit it to Aristeo, yet she could have easily said it to Ivar when they first laid in bed together. Perhaps that's why it comes out with such simultaneous ease and nervous tension.]
no subject
I think I do too.
[Then he mentally kicks himself for that. Who says that? They "think" they love someone? But Ivar is not the most in touch with his emotions even at the best of times. Forming connections with people is difficult most of the time, if not outright impossible.]
no subject
You think?
[She leans back, regarding him carefully with pursed lips. Really, she's trying to just look puzzled, but it's clear that she's jumping to the worst conclusion. What could possibly be stopping him from just saying it, aren't they perfect together?]
What do you mean you 'think'?
no subject
[Ivar huffs, able to read the expression completely on Letha's face. He knows that's not what she wanted to hear. Now he's thinking it might have been easier just to lie and not say exactly what he felt. Gods, he is such an idiot.]
I can't just say something like that off the cuff! [Now he sounds a little defensive.] I need time to think about these things.
no subject
[She doesn't mean for the bitterness to slip into her voice, but... she's never been good at hiding it, no matter how hard she tries. Aristeo had hated her for years, and still managed to admit that he loved her when the time came. So what could possibly stop Ivar? She almost starts shaking from her worry of what could be going through his head.]
Perhaps I was... mistaken.
[Before, when she'd been nervous about him reciprocating, she'd become timid and quiet. This time she's become... rather cold. Even angry. He's kissed her, he's laid in her bed, he's promised to protect her and help with her daughter and somehow he can't just say he loves her, what on earth could that mean?]
no subject
So he leans up, lightly tracing the line of Letha's collarbone that lies up against the silver necklace he's given her.]
I care for you deeply. I wouldn't be moving into a house with you or given you something like this if I didn't.
[He pauses to give himself a moment to form the words the way he wants them to.]
But you have to give me some time. I don't connect with people the same way you do. They're usually not real for me, just chess pieces on a board. But you are. I'm still getting used to that.
no subject
Why must he always be so reasonable?]
I know you care for me. [Her brow furrows, and she bites her lip briefly before fixing him with a hard look.] But do you love me?
[It's an important difference to her. She couldn't put into words exactly why, but she can't stand the thought of spending more time worrying over Ivar's thoughts if he doesn't answer her. If he could just say what she needed from him the first time things wouldn't have to get so complicated.]
no subject
I don't know! [The hand on her necklace is no longer gentle, instead twisting it so it digs in painfully into her skin. He knows she's going to misinterpret those words if he leaves it at that, so he continues on.] I'm not sure I even know what love is!
[Ivar's only ever felt familial love in his life and he doesn't know what eros should feel like in comparison.]
no subject
Then why bother with me! [She bristles as she towers over him, her indignant anger managing to wipe the fear she's had for months of him snapping at her.] Why bother giving me gifts and kissing me and laying in my bed and promising to protect me if it all means nothing to you! If you don't feel love when you do all of that then what the hell do you feel, Ivar?
no subject
[Oh, he'll let go of her necklace. Only now he's wrapping one of his hands right around the back of her neck. And Letha knows better than most how strong his grip can be. Definitely strong enough to create bruises or leave her gasping for air if he wanted to.]
Why do you need to keep pushing this? If I tell you what you want to hear and it isn't true, you'd know it was a lie. Isn't my affection enough for you?
no subject
And, as with many important choices in her life, she chooses the decidedly wrong option.]
Let go of me, you dense oaf! [She snaps as she tries to pull away from him, summoning as much strength as she can manage to wrench his hand away again.] Don't touch me, don't you dare touch me right now!
[The panic and anger seem to take a toll on her almost immediately. Though the effect doesn't reach far enough to bother Ivar, Letha's head starts to pound and she starts to shake on her feet in an attempt to stay standing. It's very obvious that she's feeling feint, as her free hand moves to hold her belly as if keeping pressure on a wound.]
no subject
Fine then! [He abruptly lets go of her neck, the marks left by his hands standing out quite clearly on her pale throat. He's so caught up in his anger that he doesn't realize at first that something's wrong.] You stupid, spoiled, little brat! Is this what you wanted all along?
[Then he realizes that something is wrong with her. She looks like she's about to collapse and his anger turns to alarm. Is this because of him? Did he treat her roughly enough to affect her and the baby?] Letha? What's wrong?
no subject
She's shaking, bawling, indignant and embarrassed as she clutches onto the fabric of his pants just to assure herself that the entire world around her hasn't disappeared. And well, no matter how much she might hate him in the moment, Ivar is the one thing that truly comforts her in this world.
Something is definitely wrong with her, there's no point just wondering about it now. Something is wrong, and she's too terrified for words.]
no subject
Hey. Hey. Look at me. Can you stand or do you need me to carry you? We need to get you to a doctor.
[He's worried for both her and the baby. He's seen enough women die in childbirth and heard enough horror stories about how his own mother nearly died giving birth to him to know that this can turn even worse than it already is very quickly.]
no subject
She's still letting out painful, raspy sobs, still so very horrified by whatever had happened when she'd panicked. She can't even be sure how irrational it is to think that the moment Ivar stops touching her she might return to that burning pain, so she clutches the front of his vest as if from fear that she might simply start floating into the void and need to hold onto him for dear life.]
no subject
Ssh. It's okay now. Look at me.
[He leans back so he can look her in the eye. His pale blue-on-blue gaze meets her own green one. His hand still perches on the small of her back, allowing her to remain on his lap. It seems like the danger is starting to pass, though he's still going to insist that she goes to the doctor right after they're done here.]
How do you feel?
no subject
[Those are the first words that she can manage, and the only words she's thinking as their eyes meet. The feeling of being held in his arms has calmed her down significantly, and she pulls a handkerchief from her pocket to try and dry her eyes.]
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry...
[Her conscious thought is starting to return, and all she can think to do is apologize for minutes. It's a while before his question finally makes it through her haze of confusion and fear, and she stops speaking for a moment before answering.]
She's never hurt so badly before...
no subject
[He just hopes that's the truth. She seems so small and frail right now, like a twig that he could easily snap between his fingers. Their fight has all but been forgotten in the face of this new concern. He runs one of his hands over her shoulders and down one of her arms to take her hand in his.]
You're going to a doctor. Right now.
[He's not going to stand any arguments or words of protest from her. She might be stubborn, but he's going to stand firm on this. Something is clearly wrong with her and he's not letting her go back home until she's been thoroughly looked over.
While he stays calm on the outside, inside, he's really worried. He wonders if she's having a miscarriage. It would be late in her pregnancy for that, but he doesn't know enough to be certain that's not what's happening.]
no subject
[Her grip on his hand is tight and desperate, but she continues to calm down slowly as the pain and shock fully subside. Back to the regular aches and pains of carrying a baby. And she presses several kisses to his lips just to draw in the comfort of having him there to protect her.
Everything is going to be fine, she has Ivar. Ivar will make everything alright.]
Just don't leave my side. Please.
no subject
I won't leave. I promise.
[Ivar always keeps his promises, whether it was to slay a king, become the best he could with a weapon, or make sure that Letha was safe and sound.]
