introductory mingle: PRIJATA
what: Introductory Log and Prijata Celebration
when: June 1st - June 8th
where: Anywhere around the city.
warnings: please put any necessary warnings in the subject lines

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.
i. gift fountain
While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.
Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.
This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.
ii. speed-friending
This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!
For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!
iii. club exhibition
Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.
And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.
iv. unveiling the new friendr
Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.
The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!
Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

For this prompt, you can either post your character's new, fancy Friendr app profile in the comments, or provide a link to their updated code in an entry on their journal. Whatever floats your boat!
v. roommates or wildcard
Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Prijata, feel free to write it up!

Letha Regis
Letha was intrigued by the fountain immediately; she's always loved receiving gifts, and hearing from others that it gave out gifts from one's home world made her particularly interested.
Nothing prepared her for her gift, though. It came in a black box with thorns patterning the wrapping paper, wrapped in a white ribbon that formed a lily on top of it. The death motif had her excited as a child, but she froze when it opened and she saw the belt of bones and twine knots. Rabbit skulls, mouse ribs, human fingers, once they all spoke and now they are silent. She expected that much. But as she examines the familiar bleached bone, she notices one new bone that wasn't there when she last saw the belt.
A charred crow skull, blackened and cracked, with dull and dirty emeralds in its sockets and very careful holes drilled through it to allow the twine through.
She's been trying very hard since she got here to seem like she has no cares in the world, but if anyone catches her now, she's simply hugging the belt to her chest and sobbing and quietly and discreetly as she can manage.
Ib: Gift Giving/Receiving
As friendly as she is, Letha unfortunately has very little idea how to get good gifts for people. She's left a lot of gift-buying to the last minute, and may even chase people down after receiving a gift from them and awkwardly running off to get something in return.
To acquaintances she doesn't know well, she'll bake them small snacks like honey rolls and muffin tops. They're not the best (slightly ironic for a baker's daughter) but she's definitely a better cook than when she got here. To closer friends she'll give trinkets, jewelry and the occasional actually thought-out gift.
(Since I didn't use the Prijata planning post much, you can always post vaguely and I'll fill in what they find in their present.)
II: Speed Friending
Letha can always use more friends, and the whole concept of speed-friending seems exciting to her. She enters a few of these during the holiday; ones aimed at occult buffs, teenagers, social butterflies and avid readers. A few that are just for general friend-making.
If there's any major conversation-starters for her, it's her six-month pregnant belly or the crow skull clipped in her hair... or maybe the fact that she has brought along her skeleton zombie Walter for moral support. At least lately he's been cleaned up better, and no longer stinks horribly.
III: Clubs
After a bit of searching, she's noticed that there's nothing that quite captures her attention, but she does like the idea of having a club to go to. With that in mind, halfway through the week she can be found manning a booth that's covered in black clothes and fake spiderweb, decorated with black candles and plastic skulls. You know, for show. A very real skeleton in Perimeter Guard uniform is sitting in the chair beside her, and will occasionally wave to passerbys. (Or he might not be there, since Cain has confiscated him after a day or two.)
Letha is opening up an Occult Club, dedicated to divination, contact with the dead, and playing with forces beyond our comprehension. That means anything from palm-reading to ouija boards - and if anyone has a new form of occult magic to show her, she'll be happy to learn about it.
ia
He's settled in at a cafe near the fountain, fussing with his spellbook, when he sees Letha when she approaches the water. At first, he doesn't plan to interrupt her, since this seems to be a private thing for most people, but then she starts crying. His first instinct is to bail, but he can't bring himself to be that much of an asshole, so instead he quickly shoves his spellbook in his bag, slings that over his shoulder, then heads over towards her.
"Hey, bubbale," His voice is gentle, and he reaches out to lightly touch her arm, not wanting to startle her, "You wanna get outta here?"
They can go somewhere a little less busy.
no subject
"I'm sorry, I didn't expect- how long have you been there?"
If anything, Taako's presence is comforting... but she can't help feeling utterly embarrassed at him catching her during a moment of weakness.
no subject
"Like, thirty seconds, promise," A lie, but these kind of lies are easy, it doesn't hurt anyone, "How about it, though? We're not far from my place, I'll make you a cup of tea or whatever."
no subject
"Oh, um... yes, that would be lovely. I'm sorry, I must look like a mess, I just-" She lets out a muffled little hiccup, moving to cover her mouth, "-I'm just... feeling homesick."
no subject
But with the box put away and Letha being a little more composed, Taako gently winds an arm around her shoulders and starts walking, leading her towards his apartment.
no subject
Letha isn't much for keeping her thoughts to herself - it always feels better to open up, and this feels like too much worry to keep bottled up. They're entering the apartment when she pipes up, nervous and quiet.
"The fountain gave me... something that belonged to my husband. I hadn't realized quite how much I missed him until... well."
no subject
As they make it inside, he leads her to one of the stools in the kitchen, then gets to work on the tea while Letha explains what she received.
"Some of this stuff seems kinda designed to make people feel shitty," It's part of why he hasn't claimed a gift yet, worried that it would be something painful.
no subject
She can't help it, she opens her bag again to pull out the belt and run her fingers over the bones. It's a morbid accessory, and much less high-class than, for example, her hairpin... but it's Aristeo's, and it means the world to her.
"Look at that... that's my pin." She holds it up so Taako can see the charred crow skull threaded into the belt. "Who knows how old this is, but he kept it... and I nearly put him out of my mind."
no subject
"Hey, listen, don't let anyone make you feel like shit for doing what you gotta do to survive, even if that means moving on," Grief is a funny thing, but until Lup, he's never dwelt in it, always moved on as quickly as possible, putting things out of his mind so it didn't hurt anymore. It's callous, maybe, but it works, "Holding onto something you can't get back doesn't help anyone, especially not yourself."
And maybe that's callous, too, reminding Letha of her death, but... he doesn't see the point in sugar coating it.
no subject
"I keep telling myself it doesn't help, I really do. It's just... I miss my world so much." She lets out a little sob again, trying to hold back so she can speak properly, "Everything is so... different, and it was exciting, but now... all I can think of is that no one here is even a little bit like me and I might never meet someone who really understands what Thornwell was like ever again... And some people here hate me, they really do, all because of what everyone praised me for back home, it hurts..."
She feels herself burning with shame as she spills this, none of which she feels is really Taako's problem, but it's finally boiling over after months of being bottled up with feigned nonchalance about being cut off from her world.
no subject
"Hey, hey," His tone is gentle, and he rubs his thumb over the back of her knuckles, trying to be reassuring, "You never know who's gonna turn up here, someone from my world finally turned up."
He hadn't expected it, and until he saw Lucretia, his feelings had been similar to Letha's, although better buried than hers seem to be. He's had a lot longer to practice that, though.

II.
The 'Avid Reading' group, held over coffee and tea in a small, cozy cafe, will be his last stop of the evening. He's just about ready to call it quits and go for a drink, preferably somewhere he doesn't feel like the average patron's father.
He sits down across from an incredibly pregnant young woman and her skeleton, and for a moment, doesn't know what to say. His eyes go from her protruding belly, to the skeleton, to the skull in her hair, and finally, to her face.
"Is that thing real?"
no subject
"Of course he's real - you can ask him questions if you like, I can tell you what he says."
She's sipping from a cup of tea, and she's placed a cup in front of the skeleton... although his is empty, and just there for fun. She's feeling out of place in these speed-friending areas for her own reasons, honestly... the death motif tends to put people off pretty quickly.
II
He perked up when someone who managed to put him off showed her face. For once, a pregnant woman was not only not running away from him, she was also unsettling. Or her friend was.
This was fucking awesome.
Ronan stopped chewing on the leather bands around his wrist. He dropped his leg back to the floor so his foot was no longer propped on the desk to balance his chair, which had dangled precariously on two legs. The chair leg's clunked when they hit the ground.
"The hell's wrong with your boyfriend?" he asked, jerking his head toward the zombie. He hoped it wasn't what it looked like.
no subject
"Most people who ask that have a problem with Ivar." While she's laughing, the skeleton's jaw also clatters as if he's laughing silently with her. "Don't worry, he's just here for looks. It's improper for a lady to be walking around without company."
no subject
"You're dating Ivar? He never mentioned you." Ronan quirked his brow at her, ignoring the skeleton-dude for the moment. He should probably try to play along if she was boning Ivar the supposedly Boneless, but Ronan didn't make exeptions for many people. So he shrugged and decided to get back to his question. "Yeah, unless your from the suffrage era with a necromantic twist, I don't buy that. So what's his deal?" Ronan looked at the creature to confirm that he wasn't sentient or something.
He found the idea of a dead person walking around disturbing, at least when their soul wasn't inhabiting it.
no subject
"I don't know what 'suffrage era' means, but yes, I'm a necromancer. This is my risen - his name's Walter. You can speak to him if you like, but unless you've got some connection to the dead you're unlikely to hear him."
Unfortunately, Letha has given little thought to the rights of the dead... Walter is effectively a cool prop. Which is probably why Cain will confiscate him in the near future.
no subject
Ronan shouldn't have been surprised by her confession. He couldn't place the emotions that brought up in him. This was nothing new, so he responded as he usually did when that happened. He ignored them except for the anger.
"Hear him? Is he in there?"
His raven, perhaps sensing his interest, started to fly over to the zombie until Ronan clapped his hands and yelled "Chainsaw!" She then flitted back over to him as he added "don't be gross. Jesus."
Right as he was about to talk about respecting the dead, his bird went to play with a corpse or worse, eat it. She was the worst pet.
no subject
"Your bird's name is Chainsaw?" That's so adorable. "She can play with him if she likes, it won't hurt him - can I touch her?"
Oh wait, he asked something, didn't he? She takes a moment to respond as she reaches across the table to try and touch Chainsaw. As she does, she makes a small motion with her hand and the skeleton slumps as if the magic holding it up has been removed.
"He's not in there, not exactly, but.. it's a bit like a phone. I can speak to the corpse and he can speak back, but he's still in the afterlife. If that makes sense."
no subject
In truth, his attention was still directed at poor Walter. The change in its posture did not escape notice. If the communication to the guy's soul worked like a phone, then what the hell was going on with his body?
Ronan nudged Chainsaw before he got absorbed in his thoughts. "If she bites, bite back," he said to his raven.
Chainsaw's sense of self-preservation was about as low as her creator's because she ignored the warning that was the bird skull and hopped over to Letha. Ronan then switched his attention Letha, watching her like a predator waiting to pounce at the slightest misstep.
"Does Walter give two shits that he's being used as a henchman or only half a shit?"
no subject
Chainsaw's a bit heavy for Letha, but she happily holds her hand up for the raven to perch on and gently runs her fingers over Chainsaw's chest feathers. What a perfect bird.
"He's not a henchman, he's just a servant. Which he agreed to." Or at the very least, he couldn't give her a convincing argument against using him as such. Though, after a pause she turns to the skeleton and huffs quietly at him, "I'm trying to make a good impression, you hush."
If she's noticed that Ronan is upset, she hasn't shown any sign of it... but she's very used to people being upset by her, both in her home world and here. The only thing that's surprised her is how many people take issue with necromancy here.
no subject
Not that it was easy for most people to believe, especially now as Chainsaw preened and bounced happily on Letha's hand. "Hush," she echoed in the unearthly voice of a raven. "Hush."
Ronan was unmoved by it. He hadn't yet worked himself up to anger, but he was more agitated. He'd like to give Letha the benefit of the doubt, on account of Ivar, but...
Ronan held up one finger. "What're we talking, indentured servitude agreement," he tapped his finger on the palm of his other hand, and then tapped two fingers on it as he followed up with the the other option. "Or 'hey I want to be alive' agreement?"
Sooner or later, Ronan would let this go and get around to asking her name already. There was a reason or several hundred why Ronan didn't make many friends.
no subject
"If you had no use for a bicycle, you would let others borrow it from time to time, wouldn't you? It's a bit like that." She moves her hands toward Walter again, and he seems to start to move again, partly because she's sick of his cynical comments in her ear that Ronan won't be able to hear. His skeleton hands move to clasp in front of him, and he rests his skull on them.
"I can move his body, and he won't know what happens to it one way or another - but I can give it back to him as well, so that he can speak to me. So, I suppose it's only a servant if one assumes his body can be considered a person when he's not in it." Which she, clearly, doesn't believe.
no subject
Ronan looked away from his raven in Letha's hands, content she wasn't going to die in the next minute, and looked at the skeleton. For some reason, he couldn't stop thinking of Noah, who he'd only known as a ghost. There was little left of his body but Ronan doubted Noah would have liked it to be paraded around and used like this. He also thought back when he returned from his dreams. He might not be in his body then, unable to move, but he didn't like people messing with him.
Ronan frowned and drummed his fingers on the table. He kept doing that even as he leaned back in his seat. With his verdict now rendered in his mind, he looked at Letha. "This is some fucked up shit. If you're going to bring him back, give him his damn body, Witch of Endor. If not, let him rest in peace for Christ's sake."
