In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. unveiling the new friendr

Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.

The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!

Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

Well, everything, naturally. But at Lux, I prefer the piano. I prefer it in general, honestly. So much more versatile than anything else.

Naturally, he says. Let me guess, you didn't have to take lessons? I could never get the hang of it, no matter how much I've tried.

(She raises an eyebrow, steepling her fingers together over her coffee cup. A gut feeling isn't technically evidence.)

No, but you're unusually smug for somebody who isn't rigging the results.

(Now she's gotta tell, huh. Oh well, it's not technically a secret.) I'm journeying through the planar system in search of the lights of creation.

"Oh, I like callouses too, but they're hardly fitting for a lady."

She says it a bit too quickly; Ivar's rough hands can make her melt to his touch, but more than anything she's seeking not to offend Ronan. Or at least, offend him as little as she can.

"Anyway, my point is that he's simply a helpful tool to keep around. I know he's unconventional, and the arrangement we have is often misunderstood, but I don't believe others have any more right to judge my culture than I do to judge theirs."

[The funny thing about speaking with the Prince of Lies is that he feels compelled to tell the truth, as if by some property of contrapasso in which the sinner suffers the opposite. And by this same property, it must be simpler to confess one's sins to the devil that incites them rather than the saints that condemn them.]

It just seemed to me that my living wasn't doing anyone any good. That's all.

[Quentin no longer looks at him, but up at the sky beyond his head, with an unfathomable expression on his face and his words quivering.]

[Of course it would come to this. Another fight all because of his anger and her stubbornness. What had started off as a happy occasion has devolved into another session of yelling and harsh words being tossed about. His eyes narrow and he looks out from under them with an icy glare.]

Fine then! [He abruptly lets go of her neck, the marks left by his hands standing out quite clearly on her pale throat. He's so caught up in his anger that he doesn't realize at first that something's wrong.] You stupid, spoiled, little brat! Is this what you wanted all along?

[Then he realizes that something is wrong with her. She looks like she's about to collapse and his anger turns to alarm. Is this because of him? Did he treat her roughly enough to affect her and the baby?] Letha? What's wrong?

I do. What time?

[Smart boy. He'll find Ivar to be a challenge no matter what.]

[He looks over his shoulder and down into the rippling fountain waters, beneath which glimmer myriad coins tossed on behalf of momentary desires.]

I don't know your name yet, ma'am.

[This he says both as a means of abeyance and of telling her that they are but strangers.]

[His harsh words nearly fall on deaf ears, as her consciousness fades for a split second and her hearing and vision both waver. She's gotten sick during her pregnancy, much sicker than she should, but never as badly as this... it sets her panicking, and the panicking causes her to almost hit the ground, and she only catches herself by grabbing onto Ivar and very awkwardly landing on her knees, clinging to him with her head on his lap.

She's shaking, bawling, indignant and embarrassed as she clutches onto the fabric of his pants just to assure herself that the entire world around her hasn't disappeared. And well, no matter how much she might hate him in the moment, Ivar is the one thing that truly comforts her in this world.

Something is definitely wrong with her, there's no point just wondering about it now. Something is wrong, and she's too terrified for words.]

"Good. That'll serve you well when you die." That's how Vikings thought. Build up your wealth and treasure while they lived in Midgard so they'd have a nice little treasure trove to spend when they spent eternity in Odin or Freya's halls. To the Norse, you really could take it with you when you died.

Ivar slugged Ronan hard on the side of his arm, a move one part affection and one part to show him that he did know what he was talking about when it came to fighting. "Wouldn't dream of it." He was definitely going to look forward to this. Ronan couldn't know it, but for most Vikings, sparring with someone they held a crush for was akin to openly flirting.

[Her sudden collapse is enough to wipe away any anger he might still be holding towards her in that moment. He reaches his hands down, dragging her back up through sheer strength alone. She can't even stand, so he's holding her up on his own. There's a note of panic in his voice, something he's trying to mask so she doesn't get any worse than she already is.]

Hey. Hey. Look at me. Can you stand or do you need me to carry you? We need to get you to a doctor.

[He's worried for both her and the baby. He's seen enough women die in childbirth and heard enough horror stories about how his own mother nearly died giving birth to him to know that this can turn even worse than it already is very quickly.]

[And just like that, with the concern in his voice, his strong and rough hands holding her... the pain and disorientation just seem to melt away. It shocks her, leaving her dizzy and dazed as her strength returns and she just slowly pulls herself into his lap and curls up with her face pressed into the crook of his neck. She can't say she knows at all what's going on, but she needs Ivar to hold her more than she's needed anything in her life.

She's still letting out painful, raspy sobs, still so very horrified by whatever had happened when she'd panicked. She can't even be sure how irrational it is to think that the moment Ivar stops touching her she might return to that burning pain, so she clutches the front of his vest as if from fear that she might simply start floating into the void and need to hold onto him for dear life.]

[ Loki tilts his head. ]

You're familiar with magic then. I am afraid this is not much of a trick unless it chooses to reveal itself.

[She seems to be doing better as he holds onto her, but he chalks that up to a coincidence. He runs one of his hands over Letha's hair, stroking her from the crown of her head to the end of her braids. The other keeps a tight grasp on her, afraid that she's still on the verge of collapse.]

Ssh. It's okay now. Look at me.

[He leans back so he can look her in the eye. His pale blue-on-blue gaze meets her own green one. His hand still perches on the small of her back, allowing her to remain on his lap. It seems like the danger is starting to pass, though he's still going to insist that she goes to the doctor right after they're done here.]

How do you feel?

He'd love that. It's a good department, they do good work between Tony and Michael. [He doesn't know anybody else that might be in R&D but he's fairly obviously at least somewhat fond of Tony Stark and Michael Scofield.]

Something like that, yeah. [He snorts.] Some are better at stealth than others. [Lookin' at you, Steve.] Some kind of camo would help.

[Bucky is still not entirely sure it was flirting. His history with these sorts of things is... Well, he's had one relationship in seventy years. There had been plenty of idle flirting when he was young, but he's immensely out of practice, even if he were interested.]

Surveyors report to Captain Apple. I'm not your boss, seems like. [Most of his authority is on the field anyway. He extends a hand to shake - the right one, flesh and blood.] Bucky Barnes.

[Bucky doesn't do anything to bring attention to his left arm. It moves just like a real one, but he does seem to favor the right out of self-consciousness, maybe.]

I haven't had reason to use anything but a regular truck so far, I guess there's a lot more in the garages. Maybe I'll have to take something else for a spin one day.

[It's strange, sometimes, to remember that not everyone here goes to space as a matter of course. That just getting up there is a major achievement.]

I'm sure you will, with determination like that.

[ Well. He's been to the moon at least. ]

Thanks. I'll do my best.

He didn't tell me anything.

[ she clarifies, answering a question that was never asked. ]

Nothing beyond little things about the twenty-first century. Phones, musicians that go by one name only.

[ beyonce, honestly. ]

I don't think he'll wish to intrude on your privacy.

Police officer.

I might be interested in those firearms training.

I'm sorry.

[Those are the first words that she can manage, and the only words she's thinking as their eyes meet. The feeling of being held in his arms has calmed her down significantly, and she pulls a handkerchief from her pocket to try and dry her eyes.]

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry...

[Her conscious thought is starting to return, and all she can think to do is apologize for minutes. It's a while before his question finally makes it through her haze of confusion and fear, and she stops speaking for a moment before answering.]

She's never hurt so badly before...

[A small furrow appears between his brows when she sees through him so clearly, is he that transparent? But he does appreciate the assurance.]

Probably still too tongue tied at seeing you.

[If he remembers little else, he remembers how much Steve acted like a fool around pretty girls.]

Yeah! [he replies quickly to assuage any of han's existential fears. TOO BAD HE KNOWS LITERALLY NOTHING.] You're alive. But you and Leia [will it get less weird just referring to her all casually like that?? nope, probably never] had a falling out years ago, so ... I mean, I personally haven't seen you around.
