"I know. I know it wasn't," Jim answered, softer and not all that teasing anymore. They had both made that plenty clear that night, and the morning after. As much as they had enjoyed themselves, and how much they had been enjoying this new dynamic to their relationship since then, he knew full well that neither of them had planned any of it.

Felt nicer that way, though. Knowing it was all spontaneous and a little thoughtless. Made it feel more genuine, like it really was what they both wanted. More than anything.

"You never had to win me over," he said with a hint of fondness, tipping his head down a little as he smiled in a way that, if one didn't know Jim, was almost shy. "You had me all along, Leonard McCoy."

Well, maybe not like this, but... honestly, it felt like such a natural step to their relationship, looking back now Jim couldn't say why they didn't get here sooner. Probably their jobs, in good part. Jim's own tendency to sleep around. The latter was no longer an issue, and the former was— well, not quite as relevant in this place. As much as Jim missed his friends, his crew and his ship, he was also grateful for the kind of personal freedom this place afforded him. Both of them, actually.

Jim tipped his head a little as he felt Bones press his forehead to his shoulder, raising an eyebrow curiously. Even if he did have a feeling he knew what Bones meant— and wasn't quite sure he knew how to handle that just yet. "Don't know, doc. If I did then I wouldn't ask."
