"Good, cause I'll come back and haunt your ass if you forget." The doctor said with all the certainty in the world, but they both knew the entire scenario was silly. Granted, he might just haunt his ass if he died first and Jim did something entirely stupid cause he wasn't there to stop him. Granted he always fought back the idea that he would be the one left behind. Not the other way around.

Maybe that thought comin' back up didn't help that frown none, cause when Jim did reach out to take his hand, he startled a little, the fork sliding from his fingers with a soft clatter on the plate. Looking up at Jim, he arched a brow at him and covered that surprise with a neutral expression as he listened to what he had to say.

He knew he shouldn't be Jim's doctor for years. Too emotionally involved and all. But he was such a damn stubborn mule he knew damn well no one could take care of Jim like he could. Fight as hard as him would... or break rules as quickly or as easily as he would to keep Jim alive. Turning his hand over slowly, he slid his fingertips over Jim's palm, his jaw set as he tried to shove those thoughts out of his head.

"Like I'd change my bedside manner after all these years." The doctor huffed softly, trying not to call Jim on the idea of heart break if only cause he knew Jim would die someday and you can't stop that from happening. But he also knew Jim didn't mean it that way, and he appreciated the promise for what it was. Jim kept his word. That he had no doubt on. Leonard's eyes hovered on their hands for a moment before he finally flicked them up to look at Jim once more. "Are we ignorin' the whole nearly sucked into space thing with a high tech bioweapon?" He arched a brow slowly at that.

Slipping his fingers through Jim's slowly, he leaned forward to press his palm against Jim's softly. "You've been better cause you've had nothin' to jump right into since then. But honestly, darlin'... we both know if some horrible disaster pops up, the first thing you're gonna do is try to fix it. You wouldn't be you if you didn't. And god help me, but I love that about ya." Even if he would rather someone else do that dumb shit for Jim for once. "Just like I couldn't promise you given the choice, I'd do anything to keep you alive even if it meant givin' everything up. But you also know, cause you're gonna pull that shit again, I'm gonna be pissed and upset again and you're gonna feel my wrath through a hypospray. Given you don't up and... well, you aren't too bad off." He really didn't want to bring up Jim dying.
