Smiling as he tipped his head to meet that sideways glance, he huffed a soft laugh then lifted his head to kiss the corner of Jim’s eye sweetly. He shouldn’t be all that surprised Jim didn’t mind it, but parts of him still expected to wake up and find out he’d just made this all up in his head. And as much as he wanted to be somewhere he could actually talk to his daughter, he kind of didn’t mind being here exactly. Not when it gave that subtle push they both seemed to be waiting for.
“Guess we’re just a ruined mess together. But long as we’re together, guess the mess is just fine.” He pointed out softly, a grin pulling at the corners of his lips as he let go of Jim’s hands to draw them in and splay them over Jim’s stomach a moment before wrapping his arms completely about his waist. “It can be, but if it helps… all I need for a date to be perfect with you is you, so you don’t really have to try too hard.” Though, the effort Jim made really did make a million butterflies explode in his stomach and chest almost making his breath hitch every time he thought about it. “But you know, this? Makes me really damn happy, mess or not.”
Hugging him a little tighter, he pressed another kiss to his neck then softly pinched Jim’s side. “Guess you better get that finished there and I’ll get the vegetables goin’.” Much as he wanted to just stay there and hold Jim like that, he also knew if he sat there like that, he likely wouldn’t get anything done. Not that it made him pull away from Jim any faster as he started to unwind his arms. “When you get it trimmed, put it in a pan and we’ll heat it up with some gravy and sauce to moisten it up.” By the next heating, it would likely make better sandwiches, but he could push it for this one meal for a typical dinner.
