[There's a reason why the term soup kitchens exists - even in the summer, soup is the easiest thing to create for large numbers of refugees. Sam's in his element overseeing a few different bubbling pots - vegetable, something with poultry, and a heartier, thicker stew. He's got a small crew of sous chefs helping out with varying degrees of skill, and when one batch is done, it's time to start another. Which means-]

No, you want the dumplings to be smaller, not the size of your fist. They won't cook if you make them too big.

[Or maybe he's directing your character in chopping vegetables or preparing meat. The Guard has brought them some of the meat, but they don't do much beyond removing the skin (or scales, or occasionally feathers).]
