Phase II

[This early in the preparations for expansion, as far as Breq is aware, there isn't a solid team yet set up for forging out all the way to clear out the electrical installation and the waterfall. She isn't letting that stop her, though. Part of her work as a Perimeter Guard means knowing the wilderness, and in the months since she arrived in the Quarantine, the river has been a particular source of danger. She spent her first month fighting off giant crocodiles and carnivorous toads, and she's sure there are more out there.

So she's recruited anyone willing, to travel about a half-day from the city and set into clearing away some of the more dangerous wildlife, to speed on the travel of the engineers and workers making their way to the waterfall itself.

At the moment, that means crouching on the muddy bank, her gun in hand and her armor a silvery sheen around her as she watches the water with sharp eyes.]

There. [She says it quietly to her companion.] To the left of the log. It's blinking.

Phase IV - Day 1

[It starts off-- dramatically.

Not the little flashes themselves. Those are still subdued, seeming little more than a trick of the light, at the moment. Enough to make one twitchy, but not outright disturbing. Not even overly suspicious, really.

It happens toward the end of the day, when the light is beginning to fade to dusk below the trees. Breq is walking as silently as she can manage on the loose leaf litter of the ground when a sound echoes out from nearby, vague but distinguishable-- it's the sound of a gun being cocked.]

Get down!

[Breq snaps it as soon as she hears it, and she's immediately turning, pulling her own gun as she does, already starting to aim.]

There's something up ahead.

[The further the two of them have traveled into this forest, the more wooden Breq's voice and expression have become. She looks more like an android than most of Riverview's androids, at this point, to take in her face.

That doesn't mean she's emotionless, though. The set of her shoulders is far too tense for that, and the way her gaze darts around the forest, like she expects every tree to be harboring an enemy behind it, gives her away. It's a sign of her discipline as a soldier that she hasn't fired on anything yet as they travel. Now, though, her attention is fixed ahead of them, as she speaks in a quiet tone to Tony.]

It's darting in and out, but we're gaining on it.
