There are certain things in Riverview that Alex tries her best not to think of, and of course the biggest one is demons. For good reason, but she's trying to avoid the subject as much as she can. When Harry's describing what the creature did, she can't help but think of it in terms that she knows, and in Alex's quite good mind's eye, the creature was more demonic than man or beast. So she just took a sip of her own scotch for a moment.
The whole thing about it being tied to the Earth and not being there also made sense to her.
