how to train your... mission!
who: Ben & Will (
snarkbark &
barksnark ), Bryn (
inlaid ) and co. I'll add the rest as they tag in!
what: How to train your... mission!
when: Way back when, pretty backdated because I suck.
where: OUT AND ABOUT, outside the city walls. It's adventure time, kids!
warnings: To be added, or specified in subject titles.
[ Notes about the mission! The beast looks like this, is about the size of a horse, and - unless it's frightened - is actually quite docile.
The best way to lure it in and tame it is with genuine laughter. Feel free to have your characters find it out in their own way! The group can find more than one beast. Feel free to NPC their behavior, too.
Possible scenarios: looking around the woods, sitting around the campfire, rotating night shifts so at least a couple of characters are on the lookout while the others sleep, successfully finding a beast, simply being silly and making new/strengthening existing friendships etc. Mingling is encouraged, since engaging in a single thread with 3+ characters tends to take a longer time to wrap up.
Have fun! ]

The twins call up their trusted pals and buddies and friends to tag along on their first mission together: grab the mysterious new creature that only exists in rumors spread around the city - for now. No one really knows the nature of the animal, or what it actually looks like, just that it's pretty huge. Huge enough that you could ride it, actually.
That's probably why they're so excited to catch it. It's not the only reason they're excited, though, because this obviously calls for an adventure around the outskirts of the city, in which camping is included. Grab your tents, provisions and scary stories, because we're gonna have some fun.
Also, Bryn gets to name the beast. Will is a man (boy) of his word!

She supposes that Will and Ben may both be doubting her skills as well, having had no major experience with capturing or taming wild animals, but that's why they're doing this as a group, aren't they?
Taking point, Bryn leads them deeper into the wild, heading down narrow, overgrown paths she's gotten to know well over the last several weeks. She wears her weapons openly, the sword still in bangle form around her right wrist and the pistol strapped to the opposite thigh. The sun is already starting to dip low in the sky, and she glances back to them, lips pursed together.]
There's a clearing about a mile ahead. We can make camp there and head further in by morning. Anyone have an opinion?

[ Will raises his finger amidst the small crowd, brows arched and back straight like he's eager to answer teacher's question. Him being here with his brother is no big deal either; they like to do their share of exploring and Ben's been active about the perimeter guard thing. Will stays behind at the animal shelter, which is - why they're both here now. The best of both worlds, more focused on making this a camping trip out of which they'll get a (surely) awesome animal than seeing it as a mission per se. ]
You look totally badass right now.
[ Yep. ]

That would be because I am totally badass, sherii. But only right now? I must be slipping...
[She'll have to take him with her when they go hunting for dinner, if they don't happen across some monsters to fight soon enough.]

When the tents are pitched and the light has all but gone, he starts a fire. This is possibly not wholly a wise decision, but it makes for good opportunity to gather round it, to talk. To eat. And, hypothetically, lure their beast in with heat and light.
Mostly for the chats. ] So, [he begins, glancing around their merry little group, some sort of skinned animal filleted along a make shift branch kebab stick in his hand, stuck in the fire to roast.] Who knows some good scary stories?

[ Will's following up on his brother's question, eyes narrowed conspiratorially before it becomes obvious that he's the one who wants to tell it himself. ]
We could always tell them about the monster named Diana.
[ Ooooh. ]

[It sounds unbelievable, but in Ben's own experience ...] Let's use a code name instead.
