[ The small mechanism for opening the duck up strikes Cisco as simple and charming. When Dorian offers him the whistle, he takes it gently, knowing that these items are doubly important. Relics from childhood hold a special value, and so do items from home in the Quarantine. For something to be both means it should be handled with care.
So he listens to Dorian explaining how he used to spend time with his mother, admiring the birds. And the story is a strange blend of sweet and a little off-putting. Because, of course, Dorian's mother could just order some servant to set aside whatever work they were supposed to be doing at that moment to make a special whistle for her son. Had that extra work left the house servant with less time to spend with their own child? Or were they even allowed to have them?
But of course, he doesn't say any of that. It was just Dorian's world, and if Cisco really can't relate, he isn't going to judge. Or at least, he tries not to.
As for the whistle itself the design is clever, and as far as Cisco can tell, sounds pretty damn accurate. ]
Impressive bit of tech there.
[ Because it is technology, in a rudimentary way. Sure, it uses wood and water, but it's something that has been engineered in a way nonetheless. ]
You ever been to the aviary?
[ Cisco knows there is one in town - he has visited it a few times. And if birds are still something Dorian is into, it could make for a pleasant afternoon. He knows that his friend had left his home country and his home, even before coming here, and might not have had much of an opportunity to spend quiet time admiring birds, the way he had when he was younger. ]
