[There was no other way to say it. He hated this disease.

Shiro had already been feeling terrible for a few days, but it kept holding on, making him miserable. All he really just wanted to do was feel better. Unfortunately, he knew what was coming at the end of this - the inevitable coma, which was why he was in the hospital as had basically been required by the doctor and Black.

Knowing what was coming, he knew the hospital was a better place because he didn't want to worry Keith or anyone else, but still didn't mean he liked being there.

But when that anxiety started creeping up on him, it was interrupted by Black, constantly sitting at the foot of his bed. The lion would start purring and he'd feel their bond and it pushed it back.

Funny how attached he'd gotten to a robot.

Shiro weakly draped his arm over his eyes, not sure if he was trying to sleep or what it was]

[Shiro will be unresponsive to this. That doesn't stop other visitors from speaking with each other or talking to Black, who is not leaving and not moving except to interact with others if they address him.

On the 22nd, about midday, Black begins to purr again and walks over to stand beside Shiro, pushing his head under Shiro's left hand. When he does this, Shiro's hand moves, but he still will not respond to anyone trying to speak to him or open his eyes]

[It was the weirdest thing... actually opening his eyes and looking up at the ceiling of his hospital room. For a long moment, he wondered where he was, what had happened, what country he was in. Nothing really seemed to make sense.

That's when Black interjected, the bond helping pull him partially out of that confusion, at least enough that he had some semblance of where he was and what had happened. Still... things didn't seem quite real.

Even so it still seemed to take a lot longer to process anything around him. Finally though, Shiro did turn his head, looking to see if there was anyone in the room with him.

ooc: You can also pick from a point where he's more coherent, but not yet released. Just not writing the prompt for that]

[ Hana wasn't too long after Keith had given her the call about Shiro being admitted into the hospital; she had just returned from a mission outside of the City and was thankfully fine, herself, but Genji had contracted this odd virus as well, and she wanted to make sure he was okay (and that Shigeru was there to take care of him). Otherwise, she would have come to see Shiro sooner.

She was trying not to beat herself up over that as she made her way over as quickly as she could, hitting the boosters on her mech as it zipped through traffic across town. She was sure that if her mech was considered a regular vehicle that she might've been pulled over for speeding by now, but she didn't care.

She needed to see him.

When she arrived, Hana made a beeline straight for the room where Shiro was. If it was the kind of door that she could burst through, she might well have; but instead the door gave a quiet hiss as it slid open to permit her inside once it made sure she was a guest. She was a bit out of breath as she stood in the threshold. ]

Takashi...

[ She was already crossing over and giving Black a quick rub on his head as she walked past the foot of Shiro's bed and over to him. ]

[ There was someone in the room with him - his girlfriend. And she was sitting in a chair at his beside, although she was hunched over and resting her head on her arms beside him on his bed, asleep. Despite the strong suggestions of doctors for her not to stick around because they still didn't know what was going on with the virus and just because she hadn't gotten infected with it so far didn't mean she was immune, she stayed. They left her alone after she looked them in the eyes and simply said, "I'm staying. And if you're worried about me getting the virus then you'd better hurry the hell up and find a cure for this crap!"

She didn't notice that he'd woken up; it'd be hard for her to see, anyway, the way her long hair was splayed all over the place. But her fingers were wrapped around his hand. ]

[Black's eyes lit up (literally) when Hana walked into the room and he purred at being pet. Yep... he liked her. He only purred for the Paladins and her.

Shiro moved his arm aside as the door opened, spotting his girlfriend in the door. A smile crossed his face]

Hana...

[And as she neared him]

I'd like to give you a hug, but I shouldn't. It's spread through contact too.

[Keith came in after having gone out to get something from home only to come back to find Shiro gone from the house. However, he hadn't been too surprised, as the Black Lion had told him that Dr Frankenstein had managed to convince Shiro to go to the hospital. He was actually thankful for it. Having heard that this was something that turned into an eventual coma, he wasn't sure he'd be able to keep it together enough to get Shiro there himself.]

I'm glad you agreed to come here.

[He easily spotted her laying there. Still his brain took a few long moments finish processing everything. It just felt too weird. It was hard to fight through it. But finally it seemed to make since and he took her hand in his, doing his best to squeeze it]

Hana...

[Shiro heard the door open, leaving his arm across his arm for the moment. Black seemed to perk up seeing Keith walk into the room, but he didn't move from Shiro's bed side. He was needed there]

I don't know if I'm glad at the moment... I probably will be later. Don't really feel any better.

[ It wasn't until he felt the squeeze of his hand around hers that she began to stir, eyes fluttering open slowly, at first. ]

Hmm...?

[ Then his voice and her name on it registered and she her head snapped up with a gasp, her eyes immediately searching for and locking onto Shiro's. It had been a few days now since she last was able to look into his eyes. There was an unmistakable worry behind her gaze and it took her another moment to fully process what was happening. ]

...You're awake. [ Then her lips split into a smile, one of relief. ] Takashi, you're awake!

[ Sorry, Shiro, she's just going to go right in for a hug. ]

Yeah. I know. But, we're here. Me, and Black, and Hana... and we feel better that someone here can help you and take care of you better than we can.

[That was important. Though, Keith was pretty sure that wasn't the only thing that 'wasn't feeling better' in this case.]

[ She stopped short of his bed; she had wanted to sit by him and everything, but his reminder that the virus or whatever it was could spread by contact gave her pause. She'd managed to be free of it so far, but maybe it was because she'd been away and hadn't been exposed so much yet. She had been strongly advised not to stick around when she arrived to see Shiro, too, but... ]

I wish I could hug you, too. I missed you.

[ Eventually, she settled on pulling a chair to sit in next to the bed - not quite so close to his bedside, but close enough. ]

How are you feeling?

[It took a long moment, but finally Shiro looped one arm around her as she hugged him - the one not full of IVs and everything else. It was comforting, having her here and knowing she had been with him]

Yeah, I'm awake. At least I think so.

[He chuckled softly at that, but he was still slightly out of it. It came across in his behavior, but he was still himself]

[Finally Shiro moved his arm to the side. He definitely looked tired. Even though he was sleeping it, he still felt tired]

I know. This is better... that I'm here. Especially when I go into that coma. [He hated that phrase] Then you won't have to figure it out at the house.

[But it didn't stop his irrational, but yet well-deserved fear of hospitals]

I'll stay with you as much as I can, okay?

[Keith understood why Shiro was upset about this... at least, as much as he could. He knew Shiro was uncomfortable, knew why, even if he'd never been through it to truly understand. But, Shiro was his brother. Keith wasn't going to abandon him during his time of need.]

Just take it easy. Once this runs its course, you can come back to the house.

[ Hana couldn't help but chuckle, herself. She knew that Shiro had to be feeling at least a little bit better if he was starting to make little quips like that. She shifted slightly, turning her head just enough to nuzzle the side of his face. ]

I'm so glad. We were worried about you...

[He's being smart at least. He doesn't want to give this disease to her. As much as he wants the comfort to hug her, nothing is worse spreading to people that he cares about, especially her]

I missed you too.

[Black was eyeing her carefully and when she seemed to have picked a safe distance to sit, Black settled back in. No need to worry here]

I feel like death warmed over, but other than that, great.

[He's trying to joke about it at least. And in case she noticed Black's reaction...]

The lions seemed to have figured out what it was pretty quickly. They were trying to keep Keith a safe distance from me so it wouldn't spread.

[He really did. This situation was made a little easier knowing that Keith was there and so was Black. And Hana of course. Friendly faces in a situation that pushed all of his buttons was good.

Not that he really had much choice but to stay. He gotten bored once and tried walking a bit around the room. Not only had Black tried to herd him back to the bed, but he'd gotten very tired just from that]

I know. Just not looking forward to it.

[Shiro hugged her a little bit closer when Hana chuckled at his comment. He rested his cheek against hers, the warmth and feeling someone being close after so long having the lions and doctors keeping him apart from others the best feeling he could think of if he had been able to describe it]

I'm sorry I worried you guys. That's not what I wanted.

[ Hana sighed a little when Shiro cracked his joke; she knew it was his way of dealing with it, so she would try to humor him. ]

Well, tell death to get lost. Your girlfriend is here.

[ Settled in her seat now, she crossed her legs and then her arms over her chest. It was annoying that she couldn't get any closer, but she did sense that Black wasn't going to let her. At Shiro's explanation, she sighed again. ]

They'd better figure out what to do about this virus soon. Genji's sick too, you know. I was hoping to have some fun once I got back from my trip, but I can't like this!

[ If Shiro was going to crack death jokes, then Hana was going to try and keep things lighthearted, too. ]

Well... I could bring a pack of cards in next time I'm here.

[Something to pass the time?]

[ She pulled away, if only so she could close back in and rest her forehead against his. It was so nice to be this close to him again, after so long, and after he'd been so sick. ]

Don't you dare apologize for that. I'm just happy you're better now.

[He couldn't help it. Even feeling as bad as he was, Shiro managed a faint smile when she said that]

I'll try. I think he tends to follow me around. Or as someone told me, he doesn't sneak; just comes up behind you and knocks you down the stairs.

[Yeah, too bad that was Reaper who told him that]

Yeah, I know you can't have fun this way. I can't really either. Which is a shame.

A deck of cards would be good. I can play solitaire.

[A little bit of morbid humor there, but in all seriousness...]

[Shiro sighed, closing his eyes as she rested her head against his. He certainly wasn't going to complain. He'd missed being able to touch people. It's not that he was really that touchy-feely to begin with, but it was easy to miss it when only certain people and Black were able to get close to him]

Okay, I won't. I'm glad I'm feeling better too.

[Also a good sign. Even with how lethargic he was at the moment, he was still saying he felt better]

Sure thing. I'll pick 'em up when I go back to the house later to walk the dog.

[He smiled.]

Anything else I can sneak in for you? Non-hospital food, maybe?

Not food. I think what they have is about all I handle at the moment.

[Even food sounded a bit to hard at the moment. Cards at least were easy. If he feel asleep, he could pick up where they left off later]

Don't suppose you could sneak Youta up here?

[Probably not. He was so hyper and friendly it would be too obvious]

[ As sassy as she was, Hana did give him a smile. She was joking around but she didn't want him to feel too bad about being sick upon her return. So - ]

Well, that's alright. That just means you'll have to make it up to me when you're all better, okay?

[ She hummed, content, and she stayed like that for a moment. There was a natural follow-up to this, and although she wanted to just go for it, he'd just been sick and comatose, so she figured she'd better ask: ]

...Can I kiss you?

Yeah, I guess it does. I will make it up to you.

[He shifted to recline some more on the bed. If how tired he seemed to be getting recently was an indication, he was hopefully near the end of this]

So how did the mission go?

[Something other than he felt sick]

[He managed a weak smile when she said that]

Of course you can.

[He wanted her to]

[Keith actually visibly considered it.]

I don't know. If we can keep him calm, maybe. I don't know what the pet policy is around here.

No, don't worry about it. He'd probably be too much to handle in here. Especially with all the stuff that's here.

[Read: the stuff he's going to be hooked up to when he goes into the coma]

[Yeah... that stuff... the stuff Keith was trying to ignore the presence of. At least they were prepared? It didn't make it better.]

Yeah, true. At least the Lions can stay.

[No pet dander!]

[Shiro was trying to ignore it as well]

Yeah, they can. I'm glad about that. Black's been a real help.

[Keith probably doesn't even really need to ask why he's glad to have the lion. The presence of the lion was something familiar in an environment that understandably made him uncomfortable]

[He didn't. The bonds between Paladins and Lions weren't something he needed explained. He knew that bond was helping Shiro cope with what would normally be a really upsetting situation. Keith nodded.]

Yeah. I imagine so.

[He got up and stretched a bit.]

I'm gonna grab some food, and then see if I can find a pack of cards somewhere. I'll be back later, okay?

[Shiro nodded, settling back in as Black came over to rest his head against his bed]

Go eat. I'll be here. And thanks for the cards.

[Keith nodded back, a small smile.]

I'll see you soon.

Just call if you need me.

[Honestly, it wouldn't matter if Shiro called or not. If it came to that, Keith knew Black would reach out, either through Red or directly, and tell Keith to come back if he needed to be there for something.

With that, he'd head out.]
