It's a party, ya'll

[True to form, Remy pulled out all the stops for this particular potluck. He has it on good authority that Rogue's bringing cornbread, but he's got what seems to be a wireless two-burner setup that he's brought along to the park, one of which is dominated by a very large pot of fragrant and spicy gumbo, and the other by a very large pot of cooked white rice, on warm. There's a small table with plastic-seeming (but totally biodegradable) bowls and utensils, two large coolers (because people might be bringing drinks), two big folding tables (for all the things that might be brought) and a big expanse of the park to cop a squat in and have some good grub, place some outdoors-y things, and have some fun! The park as a grill too, if someone wants to fire it up!]

(OOC: Feel free to post your own starters and have a ball! This is meant to be fun, after all. If you want Remy specifically, let me know! He'll be wandering around.)

[Okay, Alex is frowning now, because if there's one thing she hates other than demons, it's corporations doing shady things to people without their consent. (Just another thing to blame Thomas Warren for, honestly.) But she is suddenly angry on her behalf.]

They experimented on you without your permission?

[Yeah. Alex would definitely start working to take down a bitch if she lived there rather than back home.]

They had our parents' permission. That was all they needed.

[Which she figures says as much for her parents than the people behind the experiments but no need to get too far into that one.

She shakes her head a little, then, silent decision made as she looks to change the subject.]

But that's way too depressing a subject for such a lovely afternoon. Much better to focus on how much brighter it's gotten weather-wise. Definitely seen enough of rain and floodwater for a while.

The cautious side of her wasn't entirely certain. They could do all sorts of things with magic and electricity here, but surely there were limits. The last time she took a daring move, she ended up like this. Perhaps she should try it, since she was this way anyway-her father would want her to try.

"Alright, lets do it." She moved her fork around her plate, realizing she'd eaten most of it already. "What is your name?"

Of all their talking, Gyda realized they've yet to exchange names.

[The idea of Alex doing more then this was, one one hand, frightening. Alex tended to go overboard at the worst of times. This was, arguably the best of them (for her at least). She was bound to go overboard to a degree that Richard wasn't sure anyone else could do. On the other hand, it was a strange sort of nice to have someone want to surprise him like that.

Of course, Richard wouldn't be Richard if he didn't only slightly rise to the bait by adding more of his own. Alex was his, and he liked to think that no one could push her buttons as he could. Of course, he knew that was hubris, but he allowed himself that much where Alex was concerned.

His whole manner fell into a relaxed position, less wholly squared shoulders as he observed her for the reaction. Judging by how off guard she seemed to be he could surmise there would probably be blushing, maybe some indignation, but he doubted that here.]

We live together Alex; I'm sure I've seen most everything by now.

[To punctuate his words he gave her a moderately subtle once-over before taking another drink of his drink..]

[That makes Alex frown all the harder, because between that and things at home, Alex has just lost faith in believing that most people make good parents. Sure, a lot of them do, like hers, but there's been enough hearing about bad parents to make her just want to shake a lot of people and ask what the hell they're doing to their children.

But she also can recognize when someone doesn't want to talk about something, so even when her journalist instincts kick in and want her to press, she doesn't. Instead she just smiles and takes a sip of her drink.]

Hopefully this'll mean no more creepy water monsters. The ones we had were more than enough. But I'm looking forward to see what summer is like here. I'm from Seattle, so I'm pretty used to a whole lot of rain and fog.

[With the comment, Alex definitely turned as crimson as the solo cup he was holding, and she bobbed her head once more, this time letting off a rather loud laugh. He was right in that no one else pushed her buttons in quite the same way that he did, and more than that, Alex didn't allow anyone else to. With most people, she would have just brushed it off or ignored it, but no, Strand received the full on Alex blushing like a kid treatment. At least at first anyway.

With her cheeks still on fire, Alex just reached over and alleviated him of his drink, taking a long sip of it, because there was still a fair amount of it there. If nothing else, she was sure that would be a surprise even if he didn't think that it was a very good one.

Once that was done, Alex put it back in his hand before she moved onto her toes once more, and this time, she did wrap her arms around his neck before she whispered in his ear:]

Most everything is nowhere near everything, my Richard. Not by a long shot.

[If he wanted to play dirty, then Alex could too.]

[that gets a slightly sarcastic chuckle from the Cajun, but he smiles nonetheless, appreciative of the comfort, even if it isn't necessarily required.]

cher, if I took ta heart every negative thing anybody ever said to me, I'd be flat out of feelin's.

[If Remy minded the subtle act of possession she enacted over him, he didn't show it, instead choosing to enjoy it while it lasted and inevitably died in the wake of her own mind. He started about filling a plate for her from the gathered foods on the table, knowing what to grab just for knowing her so well.]

Ain' no doubt in dat one, cher. I'll win. [Even if I have to cheat, which...is never out of the cards.]

I don't think most of his attitude's got to do with being a mutant, but yo' right about dat, sure.

[He nods and smirks when she asks about his powers.]

You know much about physics, cher? Potential an' kinetic energy?

[Alex laughs at that, and she just shrugs quickly.]

Well, don't do that, you're too perfect as you are! But yeah, Strand's a special case.

[That may be a slight understatement.]

"Freya." She smiled and took a bite of her cake. "What's your name?"

Introductions didn't feel as important as talking and getting to know someone. Plus, Freya already had Gyda's scent which was all she needed if she wanted find the girl again.

[Remy nods at that, smiling.]

I can tell, mon ami. You got dat "dis must be a real lucid dream" look.

Hopefully. Though I wouldn't rule out creepy monsters of other kinds. There's a lot outside those walls that are pretty different to what I'm used to.

[And as part of the Guard she gets to play with them in the name of protecting the city. Which she is okay with, when that's where the majority of her skills lie.]

But if the rest of summer's anything like today, we should be in for a good one. At least as far as the weather goes. Makes me wonder what festivals they've got lined up for it, too.

[After all, she wouldn't have figured spring to be a season for remembering the dead and yet here they are. Who knows what they might think is appropriate for summer months here.]

Maybe not, but the mutant part probably doesn't help, right?

[Heck, if the outgoing types can get fed up of dealing with people not knowing how to react to them, she figures it has to be a lot worse for those who weren't particularly personable in the first place.

Her expression at his response makes clear her answer even before she speaks it.]

I know there are mutants who can manipulate energy. Beyond that you're gonna have to get a little more specific.

"Like the goddess." Perhaps she was meant to teach her how to cook, even if it meant having to find creative ways around the kitchen. "Mine is Gyda."

She wondered if the woman knew of the rest of her family.

"Yeah." Freya smiled. She liked the history behind her name, even if it was a little odd where she was from.

"It's nice to meet you Today."

[Her mind was the best and worst of her, allowing her to manage the powers of others with relatively quick aptitude, but while also blocking her ability to actually control her own power. Then there's the obvious overthinking in situations such as her and Remy's relationship.

She knew she didn't need to direct him in doling out a plate, a gentlemanly gesture that conveniently allowed her to keep her arm situated on his hip. Not that she was complaining, especially when she saw the delights he was piling onto her plate. He received a pleased and thankful squeeze at his words, smirking at him because she knew what he was thinking, bad gambling pun and all.

There are always bad gambling puns.]

Better, or else ah'll never hear the end of it from Steve.

Yeah, I definitely haven't been outside the city actually. I mean, I'm good with a lot of things, but I'm not really a fighter. The closest thing I got was the self defense lessons my dad taught me when we realized I wasn't going to get any taller, and that I was eventually going to go off to college. Well, I always knew I was going to college, I think he just hoped I wouldn't.

[Because her Dad had been a cop in Vancouver before they moved to the suburbs, and well, he didn't want her to live there. Fooled him, now she's in America.

At the mention of the festivals, River just grinned for a minute.]

Well, considering everything else, maybe we should start having a holiday bingo game, right?

[He grins broadly at that.]

Perfect, eh? Now yo' jus' tryin' to butter me up.

[But fair enough, he crosses his arms, looking at her curiously.]

An' what makes Strand a special case, 'sides the obvious of course?

Oui, somethin' like dat. [And probably a lot of torture and being used as a weapon, but that's Logan's business, not hers.

He grins at her comments on energy, though.]

D'accord, mon cher. [He stoops down, picking up a small pebble, smaller than a marble, and holds it up between his thumb and index finger, making it the focus between them.] Everything's got potential energy. Turns into kinetic when it moves, converts back when it stops movin', non? My ability lets me find it, turn it into movin' energy all at once. De bigger de thing, the bigger the reaction.

[There's a flash of red light from behind those sunglasses of his and the pebble pulses briefly with a similar flair before he tosses it into the air and it explodes with a small pop, sort of like a popper on the 4th of July: nothing too violent or damaging, but loud.]

Jus' a taste, but dat's de idea.

[He chuckles at that, finishing off her plate and moving her, well the both of them, toward a table to have a seat. He'd eat in a bit, once he'd made sure more of his guests had gotten a plate, but that didn't mean he could spend some more time with Rogue first.]

Steve said somethin' that caught my attention, actually. One, told me I was right about somethin'. That was weird.

[The very limited retail space left for the hot dogs gets a chuckle out of Steve. As someone who does more than his fair share of eating, he finds her dual wielding food endearing and familiar. It's nice to know that someone else is enjoying the cookout as much as he is.]

Alex, good to see you. I hope those mean that you're hungry.

[Because he has plenty of hotdogs and burgers to share.]

Enjoying the picnic?

[Richard raised his brow at the statement. He wasn't entirely sure he believed what Remy said was true. He was holding his own in regards to dealing with this delusion rather well, at least he thought that.]

If I were dreaming, then this wouldn't be my dream.

Would I do that?

[The question was asked with a little grin, because it's Alex and she definitely would, but she's not here to do that in this case. She doesn't need to, they're already friends in her mind.]

Um, it's sort of a long story that he'd kinda hate for me to tell, actually. But he really is, and definitely worth all of the thorns he's got.

[A beat, and she looked down before she added:]

But for the love of god do not tell him that I'd said that, I'd never hear the end of it.

Yeah, definitely starving! Even with everything going on, it definitely feels like a good day to be out and doing stuff, you know?

[Even if she's on a bit of a timeline, Alex doesn't care. She's going to stop and smell the roses, or at least eat hot dogs loaded with absurd things, because what's a picnic without one, right?]
