iii. floating of the lanterns [It had been terribly hard to release Pietro's lantern the first night, and in the ceremonies each following week, it only gets marginally easier. The red lanterns have less writing each week, but Pietro's is always completely covered in cramped writing. There's so much she still wants to tell him, and as the weeks go by she's never sure if this is helping.
From the second time on, Wanda develops a kind of ritual: she sings a soft song in Sokovian before finally releasing the blue lantern, sitting back on her heels to watch it disappear from view.
Thank goodness for the dim lighting. Maybe, if she's lucky, she can get out of here without someone noticing she's been crying.]
