Ragnar's farm: Family, visitors

The people in the clinic couldn't restore her sight, as they weren't able to find the creature that attacked them to find a cure, and were able to send her and father someone to help her cope with blindness. Gyda appreciated the help, but some days (most days) she wanted nothing more than to cure up in bed and shut everything out. They made her get up though, made her get up and navigate in a world that now appeared dark and blurry, as though she was forever swimming in a deep, dark lake.

She was having to learn to do everything again; how to dress, keep house, cook, things she had known and learned for years under her mother's guidance, she had to learn all over again. The first week was dizzying and she kept getting scraped or bruised for tripping or moving too fast, gripping something wrong.

The barn was the worst, because the animals were always so eager for food, but she could only smell, hear and feel them if they rushed over at her. She had to come to terms that she could no longer take care of the animals by herself-not if she wished them to be fed and kept safe.

Of everything that had happened, needing help to take care of the farm was the worst..

Various shops:ota

If Gyda ever thought navigating the city was a challenge, having to learn blind made her cower. The clinic had given her a cane to help navigate and make sure she didn't trip on people or the sidewalk (and dark glasses to cover the 'milky white of her eyes), but that left her with little in way of identifying the shops besides what she might recall from land marks. Her tutor had helped her with a voice recognition device to help locate places, which helped, but only by so much.

Worst still, until she could get used to walking around the city, she was compelled to wait for someone to escort her around.

She wondered if this was how Ivar felt on his worst days.
