remember when valentine's day was a thing.
who: peter parker + ava orlova
what: a kind of sort of valentine's day rendez-vous
when: backdated to valentine's day
where: along the river
warnings: grab your extra-strength toothpaste bc this is gonn' be sweet
[ It's the kind of date he hasn't had in what honestly feels like forever.
Peter meets Ava in front of Riverview Q's top-rated local ice cream shop in the late afternoon, surprising her with a modest little bouquet of colourful flowers for the occasion - because he can and because he wants to. (The variation of colour, however, was a little out of his hands on account of not knowing what flowers were her favourite.) He misses being able to do stuff like that, doting on someone else, being the boyfriend as it were - even if he and Ava aren't really anything like that quite yet.
He likes her though. That much he's sure of, whatever might happen after this.
He offers her her choice of any three scoops of ice cream (he goes for the boring stuff himself: strawberry, chocolate, a little hazelnut to top it all off), and then they head off towards the River, just two superhero teenagers on a low-key Valentine's Day date.
-- which is where they are now, walking along the edge of it, cones-in-hand. It's really, ridiculously peaceful. It's the kind of peaceful he hasn't felt in ... well, most of his life, actually.
Peter isn't waiting for the other shoe to drop, really ... but yeah, he's waiting for the other shoe to drop. Peaceful is kind of a foreign concept when your name is Peter Parker, so you can't really blame the guy. ]

It feels normal in a way she's never really felt, and maybe it's the timing of it all. Having the tech from home has had her on edge the past couple days, but until she decides what to do about it, just being able to get out like this is actually nice. It forces her to forget about it and just breathe for a while, focus on someone else. Namely Peter, who makes her feel-- something.
She shows up in a semi-casual red sundress, and he gives her flowers and she smiles, warm and bright, because no one's ever really given her flowers before. She likes the variety, and she holds onto them while they order their ice cream. Ava's a little bit more adventurous, but not by much: she opts for cookies & cream, mint chocolate chip and strawberry. It's strangely easy to forget about all the chaos and the worries as they walk along by the river. She thinks it's probably the first time she's really cared about Valentines Day, but she's glad for it.
There are doubts and worries all bubbling below the surface, things like the fact that the only boy she'd ever liked before this had died and that her life is always chaos. But for the moment she's not really paying it much mind as she enjoys her ice cream cone.] This is really nice.
