If Ed had been aware that Nico could hunt him down so easily he would have been more honest with him from the start, but secrets were easier to keep when less people were aware of them. Which is why everyone got the same story when he left, if they got an excuse at all for his departure. Maybe it wasn't so much that he didn't think Nico could, but that he just didn't expect he would bother to do so.

As if waiting for the inevitable fight that would occur over his lying, stepping through the pews with one eyebrow quirked and looking for all the world like the demigod was intruding on private property uninvited rather than crashing his one-man pity party in a completely public and abandoned church.
