The one from the prime reality, who was an Ambassador by then, settled on a colony somewhere with a few of his own people. Didn't see him all that often, myself.

Deep space mission. Exploring new areas of uncharted space, finding new worlds and civilizations, that sort of thing. A longterm mission like that usually involves months of travel in-between stops, and we don't really go back to Earth until it's done. There are a number of colonies and starbases we dock at every once in a while, but the Enterprise is designed for optimal efficiency, so we require as little resupplying as possible.
