So it is a definite possibility that he actually doesn't get any rest. Point is, he's got a lot on his plate already as it is, and Jim tries not to add to that, not unless he absolutely has no other options. ]

Some. I didn't do it as often back home as I do here. I was in command of a ship considerably bigger than this shuttle, and with a crew of about four hundred people. There's a lot of delegating, as you can imagine. As much as I do like getting my hands on some hard work sometimes, getting more involved on some away missions... it didn't happen very often.
