It is not the same in my world, I think. But, even if one parent were to leave completely, there is a community of people around to help. At least, in my time with the Vikings. It was somewhat different in England but not very. Children were always a matter of survival and pride for the most part.

[ Athelstan smiles a little. Of course, there is love but if that was the only reason he is not sure anyone would have been up for the burden. ]

It is best not to let things be too complicated to be honest lest twenty years pass you by unawares.
