Arching an eyebrow, Alec tried to ignore his parabatai's ego while they continued playing. He was used to Jace underestimating him when they sparred, but at least he knew that Alec could hold his own in battle. He never would have asked for the bond if he'd thought Alec was too weak to keep up with him.

Humming softly to acknowledge Jace's comment about Magnus, he was relieved that Jace thought that his husband was important. They'd vowed to protect each other's loved ones, but hearing that confirmation years later, when there really was someone to treat as 'his people' was something Alec needed to hear.

But that didn't mean that he would let Jace's ego keep going unchecked. Glancing over at his parabatai, he waited for just the right moment. Wrapping his arms around Jace, Alec pinning his arms as he shoved the piano bench back so they wouldn't damage the expensive instrument. Then he tipped them both backward onto the floor in the kind of move he would have used when they were kids, playing instead of actually sparring. "What was that about trying?"
