It is an honor to die and join the gods almost as great an honor as dying in battle. Like a death in battle, a sacrifice is dying knowing that they are doing so for their people, their friends, and their family and the rest of the community is also aware of this.
Even so, it is rare that the gods ask for a human sacrifice. For most festivals, an animal, drink, or food is given as an offering."
