who: The Joker & an NPC named Marcus.

warnings: Light violence. Very light. Like a feather.
Marcus was a young, built, eager young man in Riverview. He also happened to be lost in terms of his own identity and what he wanted out of life. Of course he wished for fame and fortune--cliche as that was--everybody wanted those sorts of things deep down inside. He just didn't know how to go about it. Working in stores didn't appeal to him, nor did joining the police force or the perimeter patrol. Welcoming new arrivals lacked to light any sort of fire in his eyes.
Crime..there was some potential in that, but thus far Marcus did a fine job of avoiding the seedy underbelly of Riverview. That all changed one evening in the shadier side of the city. Someone tried to rob him, but a man saved him. A tall, lanky man. He attacked the criminal from behind and knocked him out, adding a kick or two to the unconscious man's ribs for good measure. He looked to Marcus and grinned, telling the young man to 'call him The Joker'. A pale hand reached out from the darkness that cast itself over the man's figure.
When he took the man's hand, it felt akin to making a deal with the devil. He wasn't wrong in this feeling, as The Joker had taken to following him around at night since he arrived. Well, a couple nights after he arrived. He liked what he saw in Marcus and tells him as much: youth, strength, determination.
"But you feel like you're missing something." Joker says, his hand giving a squeeze to Marcus' own before releasing it. "I used to be like you, y'know. Lost. Thinking I needed to 'make it' in only one way. The safe way." The man stepped out of the shadows and looped an arm around Marcus. He..looked rather underwhelming and not at all like the name he gave to the eager young man known as Marcus. This was purposeful, and actually served Joker more than the newbie knew. "Oh but Marcus, there are so many ways to succeed!" From there the pair walk away into the night, Joker speaking while Marcus listens intently.....
