It's Party Time | Open to CR

A few days since the memories had stopped and a couple of nights of decent sleep and Shiro was back to his normal self. Now that he was feeling better, he remembered that he had missed something: Keith's birthday. Even Keith had forgotten it with everything that was going on. But Shiro needed to fix that.

As discretely as possible, Shiro had gotten an idea of who Keith's friends here were. Of course he also had some idea based on who had come to see Red when the lion had arrived. Some people had been generally curious while others had clearly heard about the lions from Keith and wanted to meet them in person. So he had used that as an opening to figure out how close Keith was to certain people. Once he had had an idea, he had begun to invite people.

The day of Keith's party, he made an excuse to get Keith out of the house for a while so Ed could come over. He needed help to get the decorations up in a short amount of time, plus surprising Keith wasn't necessarily the best thing to do so letting him know at some point there were people at the house was probably a good thing to do so Shiro would have to meet him or stall for time for everything to get arranged.

Which of course he did eventually have to leave to meet Keith once guests had started to arrive. Soon when he returned, it wasn't quite a surprise party for Keith... just a surprise it was for him.

However, Shiro couldn't leave without putting a party hat on Red. It was a party for her paladin after all so she should be festive.

[ooc: open to CR. Party crashers, be aware there are two robot lions - one the size of a liger - and if the host or guest of honor get annoyed with the party crasher, there will likely be a lion or two ushering them towards the door.

"Yeah," Keith said, with a small chuckle. Granted, this was probably about as normal as things were going to be for them for a while now, and, honestly? It was about as normal as things had been for a while, all considerations taken into account here. "It was good," he continued. "Thanks."

He looked over suddenly at the sound of a metallic clunk to see Red, party hat still stuck on one ear where Lola had managed to fix it for her at some point, bumping against Black. The streamers looked cool!

"Where did she get the hat?"

It was about as normal as it was going to get and Shiro couldn't really complain about that. It was good seeing Keith happy and enjoying something so... mundane. He'd kept the party small, didn't make a big fuss about it because he knew Keith didn't like crowds and it was more personal this way. His friends.

Shiro looked up at the sound as well, seeing Red standing next to Black. He couldn't help a smile looking at her watching them with that party hat. She looked rather cute.

"Well, I picked it up when I was shopping for supplies. She was in the room when I was decorating so I just put it on her. Black tried to take it off her a few times, but I think she figured it was important."

Black did look over and nose at the hat on Red's head.

Red gave a soft growl. Leave her hat alone. She liked it.

Keith chuckled a little.

"Yeah... she thinks that's what she's supposed to wear." He walked over. "You know you don't have to wear it forever, right?"

She purred a bit, and Keith just shook his head.

"Alright," he said. "You can keep it for the rest of the day."

And when Red growled at him, Black backed down, sitting back like it hadn't been doing anything at all.

"Well for a party. At least."

He chuckled at the response.

"Yeah, there's no harm to letting her wear it. Oh, I have another present for you."

Shiro had put a tiny cactus in a planter on the table where Keith's presents had been set up, either before or after he opened them, depending on if they were handed to him directly. He'd done it mainly as a joke - though Keith could keep the tiny cactus if he wanted it - but there was something else.

Keith gave Red a pat, letting her know it was okay to keep wearing it for the rest of the day. That seemed to placate her for now, and she settled down to watch, adopting a loaf position.

"Another one?"

Keith looked curious and glanced back at the gift table before walking over to look a bit more closely.

Okay... that really was cute, the lions laying down like that. Red was definitely better at "loafing" than Black. A bit to broad in the chest, but Black seemed to prefer the couch anyway. That poor couch. Furniture was not made for giant robot lions.

Shiro followed Keith over to the table. Sure enough, there was another present there for Keith still unwrapped. Most of his presents had been wrapped in red since red had been picked up on as a color he liked, but this one wasn't. It was wrapped in more of a space themed paper. The package itself was definitely larger than a bread box.

Keith looked momentarily confused, and then picked it up. He had been pretty sure he'd seen all of them, so he figured Shiro probably stuck it in there after the party had started to wrap up. He opened it.

If Keith had bet money on the fact that Shiro had kept that hidden and only put it out recently, he would be a few dollars richer because that was exactly what had happened. Not that there was any specific reason Shiro couldn't have left it out for Keith to open with the rest of the presents, but there was something a little more special about this.

When Keith unwrapped the present, he'd find what was inside was a constellation light, one that when plugged in would project constellation patterns on the wall or a facsimile of a night sky, depending on if someone wanted it to be accurate or not. Granted it was for the night sky in Quarantine, but it still served the same purpose.

When he saw what it was, Keith couldn't help the amused smile that showed up on his face. He chuckled a little.

"Man... I always wanted one of these as a kid..."

Yeah, he wasn't really a kid anymore, but still... it was pretty cool.

"Thanks."

No, he wasn't a kid, but even adults could like something from their childhood or something that they had wanted somewhere in the back of their mind. Shiro hadn't been sure about this one, but the smile told him that Keith at least appreciated the thought behind it.

"You're welcome. I thought you might like it. Apparently I know you well enough to know that you had wanted this as a kid."

No idea how.

"Well, it is something we had in common, yeah?" Keith gave him a smile, amused at first, and then quieter, softer.

"Thanks for all this, Shiro. Really. It was nice."

"Yeah, it is something that we had in common." A fascination with space was definitely something they both shared. The fact that Keith appreciated the gift of a constellation projector light proved it.

He smiled back. "You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it."

It would have been disappointing if Shiro had put all this together and Keith hadn't enjoyed the party. Keith had made a lot of friends here so he'd thought it would be good opportunity to celebrate and get over the weirdness from repeatedly seeing their own memories.

"I know I'm not exactly the greatest with parties, but this was a good one." And, agreed... it was a good break away from the melancholy of the previous month. He shrugged a little sheepishly. "Do you need help cleaning up anything?" If not, Keith was thinking of heading up to his room now that everyone was gone. He wanted to put his stuff away, too.

"Well, you didn't turn and walk out when surprised with the fact the party was for you so I think you did pretty well with it."

Not that Shiro thought he really would, but having the guest of honor leave within two seconds of realizing there was a party wasn't something most people wanted. But it had worked out. Not only had it been a celebration for Keith, but also gave him something to focus on.

"Don't need help. Besides, you're not helping clean up. The person the party is for doesn't help clean up his own surprise party."

Considering he'd surprised Keith with a party, it was unfair for him to help clean up. Now if Keith had asked for one, Shiro might have asked for some help.

Keith gave Shiro a weak smile, but nodded. "Yeah..." It had been an awkward moment for him, being dropped into the spotlight like that, but he'd done okay. He even surprised himself a little.

"If you're sure..." He felt like Shiro had gone through a lot of trouble for him. And, yes, others had stayed and helped, and he appreciated that. But, still... Keith wanted to pay him back.

Yes, Keith had been in the spotlight, but luckily it was only a small group so it wasn't like all of Quarantine had been there. Just friends of his.

"I'm sure. It's your party. Enjoy the rest of the evening off."

Nope, not going to make Keith clean. Unless he protested too much more...

"Thanks."

Keith gave Shiro a small smile, and then gathered his gifts to bring them upstairs.

"Night."

Red started up the stairs ahead of him.

"Have a good night."

And Shiro would continue to clean up, leaving Keith to his own devices, Black staying downstairs with him.
