It's Party Time | Open to CR
who: Shiro, Keith, and close CR
what: Keith's birthday
when: Saturday
where: Shiro and Keith's house
A few days since the memories had stopped and a couple of nights of decent sleep and Shiro was back to his normal self. Now that he was feeling better, he remembered that he had missed something: Keith's birthday. Even Keith had forgotten it with everything that was going on. But Shiro needed to fix that.
As discretely as possible, Shiro had gotten an idea of who Keith's friends here were. Of course he also had some idea based on who had come to see Red when the lion had arrived. Some people had been generally curious while others had clearly heard about the lions from Keith and wanted to meet them in person. So he had used that as an opening to figure out how close Keith was to certain people. Once he had had an idea, he had begun to invite people.
The day of Keith's party, he made an excuse to get Keith out of the house for a while so Ed could come over. He needed help to get the decorations up in a short amount of time, plus surprising Keith wasn't necessarily the best thing to do so letting him know at some point there were people at the house was probably a good thing to do so Shiro would have to meet him or stall for time for everything to get arranged.
Which of course he did eventually have to leave to meet Keith once guests had started to arrive. Soon when he returned, it wasn't quite a surprise party for Keith... just a surprise it was for him.
However, Shiro couldn't leave without putting a party hat on Red. It was a party for her paladin after all so she should be festive.
[ooc: open to CR. Party crashers, be aware there are two robot lions - one the size of a liger - and if the host or guest of honor get annoyed with the party crasher, there will likely be a lion or two ushering them towards the door.
invited guests would be - Lola, Marinette, Ed, Hana, Al, Nico, Lyle, Genji, X'rhun. Shiro's going based on what he was able to gather]

"You fight evil in giant robots, that's more certain than this?" Lola felt everything she heard about Keith and Shiro's life made it just... more dangerous than most. Maybe not as dangerous as Jason but Jason's life was really really dangerous. "Even my life isn't that certain and I'm perfectly safe at home."
She's going to just stop milling about at that cryptic warning. Lola when her hair was pink, and she was a little less aware of the world, wouldn't have leapt to quite the same thought as she did right now. The thought she'd had ever since... she got into something most would call 'hard to get out of.' "And what do you mean by that?"
Lola's a lot less bubbly as she speaks. Whatever energy she got out of conversation just wasn't there anymore with that one.

"You're right. Nothing is certain, though to different degrees. I'd use the example of people randomly vanishing here, but based on what Keith has told me, that's not something I can claim about home anymore."
He did get her to stop at that one so he continued.
"Like you said, feelings are hard. They are harder still when you are taking two people's into consideration, it gets even harder. Depending on how much you've done together, there's other things. Not that I need to know what you two have done mind you."
Keith has been burned before. It's a rather cryptic way of Shiro trying to make sure it doesn't happen again. He cares about Keith and she seems like too nice a girl; potentially both of them will get burned if something like that happens.

Which just brings things back to his speech about feelings. Lola's hair turns a bit red as he mentions other things, her cheeks matched. But she quickly regains her composure and softens her haircolor to pink, and the blush vanishes. "I've dated before, and more complicated things, and it isn't really your business. Because if you're afraid I'll hurt Keith, you're wrong and nothing I could say here would change your mind."
She'll just... resume cooking before the food gets ruined.

The comment though about it being worth it despite the risk of people disappearing did bring a faint smile to his face. She understood that part of the issue at least.
"I agree. Your past is not my business. I'm not assuming anything about what's going to happen between you and Keith. But Keith's the closest thing I have to a brother, both here and on the castle, so I worry about him. Call it a protective brother thing to want to look out for a younger sibling."
no subject
Lola's going to just start plating her breakfasts, three plates for whenever Keith joins them. "Which is why whatever concerns you have I can't talk them away. I just have to hope you see how Keith and I are and you stop worrying. Cause I'm not a threat to anyone."
no subject
As she began plating the food, Shiro got up to get his coffee. "Well, you didn't run out of the house when you saw that you had been caught. I'd say that's a good start. Do you drink coffee?"
no subject
Of course all this was just floating in Lola's head, adding to how she might need to learn to protect herself. "Doesn't everyone drink coffee? And I didn't do anything wrong, I didn't have a reason to run away."
Just being caught on a walk of shame by your sorta boyfriend's sorta brother is awkward.
no subject
Since she had said yes to the coffee, Shiro got a mug for her as well. Isn't he the best "brother"? Getting coffee for his "brother's" maybe-girlfriend after they did something (?) the night before. He poured her mug first and set it on the counter for her when she was done plating breakfast.
"Not saying that you did anything wrong. Still doesn't mean you couldn't have run out so you wouldn't have had to talk to me. Do you put anything in your coffee normally?"
no subject
She put one plate aside for Keith whenever he joined them and took the other two to the table. "Um, little cream, and two sugars? Mostly I was just hoping it'd be up to Keith, how much he wanted to share. That's mostly why I tried to leave. Once you saw me there wasn't much hope for that."
Her last serious relationship was a giant secret from everyone and it shows in Lola's choices? That feels right.
no subject
If she understood that there were could be complications for being on ship when they had to fight, he wouldn't argue more against it. Besides, it was hypothetical.
Shiro went ahead and got some cream and sugar for her coffee. He just put some sugar in his so it was easy to tell apart from hers.
"Well I know and the lions know. Other than that, its not my business to say anything and the lions really only can communicate with us."
Even if she had managed to make it out the door, he might have picked up something from Black once the lion communicated with Red.
Speaking of which... there was a black lion coming back down the stairs.

While Lola and Shiro were talking downstairs, Keith took his time. He didn't realize that Shiro had spotted her. In his head, she had left after a few more kisses once they had both woken up, and that was that. Red had nosed her way into the room once Lola was gone, and purred up at him. He looked back down at her, but the handle of his Marmora blade was sticking out from the top shelf under the bed. He found it was easy to reach there, and meant he didn't have to keep it stashed under his pillow. Shiro already knew about it, so there was no real reason to hide it anymore.
Except... now he had to deal with potential fallout from others on what they might think. People who didn't know the Galra, and might not even know about aliens. People who'd never seen humans leave the solar system, or even get close to the edge. It was a daunting prospect. He hadn't had to face this outside of Castle of Lions and Team Voltron, yet.
It was still a sore spot. Lola asking about the scar had set him thinking again, and he was definitely worried what people might think... even more so her. She hadn't asked again after the initial question, but he had a feeling it wasn't going to go away easily.
Either way, he pulled on a shirt and a pair of sweatpants over his boxers, and moved to head downstairs. Red told him that everyone was up, and that he'd probably want to go downstairs now... though she didn't exactly say why. He saw why, though, once he spotted Shiro and Lola talking in the kitchen.
Oh boy...
He made his way into the kitchen quietly.
"Uh... morning..."

Lola figured whatever she and Keith were doing wouldn't be completely private. Her housemates would have to find out. And she was bad at secrets so her friends might end up knowing. Still... she knew her limits a lot better than she knew Keith's limits.
Speaking of, spotting Keith lead to a very genuine smile... followed by a much weaker awkward smile at... well, getting caught. But there was breakfast on the counter! That helped, right? "Morning."
no subject
Shiro looked back as Black came down the stairs, heading immediately for the couch and climbing up. The couch groaned again under the weight. That poor couch.
There's still another couch open if Red wanted to join Black and watch the humans.
Of course it wasn't long that Black was followed by Keith. Shiro watched as he came down the stairs. If Keith were looking, he'd definitely see that Shiro didn't seem mad, but there miiiiiight have been a faint smirk hidden in his smile. It was a lighthearted smirk. He wasn't going to do anything with this new found information other than bother Keith for maybe an hour after Lola left. It wasn't his business aside from the fact that he lived in the same house as Keith.
"Morning. Lola was nice enough to make breakfast and there is coffee if you want it."
no subject
"I thought you were headed out," he said to Lola, curious. Had she been caught or did she just change her mind? He wasn't sure, and the feelings of awkwardness that might be lingering in the air kind of went over his head.
He settled down at the table with them, looking between them like he was attempting to read the situation, despite his poor ability at doing so.
no subject
Not that either of them know that.
"I do have to go relatively soon, not just so you two can talk without me here, but also I need to go home, shower, change, and get my books." Lola's pretty sure there are things that need to be talked about without her. But she also has a life she has to get to as well.
no subject
"That's fine. Whenever you need to leave. Thanks for making breakfast."
Yes, he did want to talk to Keith but that wasn't something that he was going to rush her out the door because of it. Besides, if she and Keith really were getting close, then she'd probably be around more often.
no subject
"Thanks for making breakfast, though. That was nice of you." He smiled a bit. He knew Lola had to get going anyway, which was part of the reason she had been trying to leave early, so he wasn't surprised by her comment, and was actually surprised she was still there.
no subject
"I know I'm the guest, but I thought it'd be good to repay letting me stick around," There was a subtle little smile after she said that. She finished her coffee and grabbed some bread. from the fridge and turned what she had left of her breakfast into a makeshift sandwich, "But I really do need to get going. I'm just glad I don't have to share a shower anymore."
Shoes back on she walked past Keith's chair to give him a quick kiss on the cheek. ...and because she's Lola she has already put all her make-up on so have fun with that. Waves to both boys, then to any lions within sight of the door... and leaves.

After Lola had left, Shiro's attention now turned to Keith. There’s definitely a faint grin on his face.
"So... you and Lola."
no subject
"Huh?" Him and... Oh. "Oh... uh... Yeah, I guess so." He rubbed the back of his neck. "It uh... it was nice." He frowned a little in thought for a moment, staring at his plate. "You didn't get all 'big brother' on her, did you?"
no subject
But Keith's comment did make Shiro chuckled.
"And exactly are you expecting me to have done to go 'big brother' on her?"
no subject
no subject
In case you couldn't guess, Keith, Shiro is having fun with this.
no subject
"Please don't ask her those things," he mumbled. "I don't need your help to scare her off."
Yes, Keith was kind of afraid of screwing this up.

"Not even the question about pineapple on pizza?"
